He could also leave the GOP, declare himself an Independent, and caucus with the Democrats. Eliminating the ludicrous quasi-co-majority leadership situation currently prevailing in the Senate could have numerous benefits.

On top of that, he’s not going to do anything. He’s still a senator until January 2025. Plenty of time to do something of throw shade to reporters without naming names. Will he do anything meaningful? I doubt it.

Romney is way too conservative for my tastes but he’s basically a moral and honorable person. The one exception that strikes out in my memory is how he said it was so hard for him to vote to convict a Republican. No Mitch, all of you Senators signed an oath to judge the case impartially. It should have been just as easy to convict a Republican as a Democrat.
I think part of the equation is that men in his family do not tend to have long lives. So Mitch, go enjoy those grandkids and go out playing with one like Vito Corelone. Could he name names as to who feels contempt for Don the Con? Sure, but what would that do? His word is not trusted among the MAGA crowd, so he’d be preaching to the choir on one hand and speaking to the deaf on the other.
If he was, why not do more to undermine and fight the MAAGA crowd?
We all know that if Trump weasels his way back into the presidency, he’s going to take personal revenge on everyone who is on his enemies list.
So why not stick a few of these poltroons on the list? It’s put up or shut up time. If Trump knows they’re badmouthing him behind his back, then they know their days are numbered if Trump isn’t stopped. “Laughing at him behind his back” is the worst thing Trump can imagine, just take a look at how many times he’s used that line, to describe Biden or any other Democrat.
He seems perfectly willing to overlook it if they come running back into the fold. See Christie, Graham, Cruz, Rubio and countless others.
