Mix Album Challenge Week of March 17 - The Drive To The Prize!

Following up on our wildly successful first Mix Album Challenge With a Prize, here is challenge #2:

Compile a mix CD of songs that include the name of a place that is not in the United States of America. The place cited must be identifiable as not being in the USA and cannot be a theoeretical place or position, so song titles like these are allowed:

“My Baby Lives in Moscow”
“The Waters of the Meditteranean”
“Rockin’ In Poland”
“Antarctica’s Warmer Than You”
“I’m Cryin’ Over You In The Green Zone”

The following would not be:

“New York, New York” (In the United States)
“America the Beautiful” (IS the United States, which is the same as in it)
“You’re In My Heart” (Not actually a physical place)
“Up In My Room” (Isn’t identifiably in or out of the USA)
“I’m On Top” (Euphemistic)

The reference may be in the form of a modifier, so “Your Supposed Canadian Girlfriend” is permissible.

As per the last thread, points will be handed out for the best entries based on a mix of song styles, innovative entries, choice of good songs, and which mix CD would be the coolest, as well as just sheer random chance. In the case of this thread you will also get some credit by avoiding mention of the same place twice, or somehow coming up with a CD that only mentions ONE place.

The other rules, for clarification:

  1. Put together a mix album of songs that meet the challenge criteria.
  2. You must have at least eight songs, and having ten to twelve gets you max credit.
  3. You cannot have two songs by the same artist, although artist cross-pollination is okay (you could have one song by the Beatles and one by John Lennon as a solo artist, but not two by the Beatles.)
  4. The songs must be at least moderately well known; no answers from your brother’s screamo band’s self-released EP that sold 496 copies.

In every song challenge, if we have at least 20 entries, I will award points to the three posters who in my estimation have put together the best combinations of songs. The judgment is purely subjective, but will be based on having songs from a broad range of pop/rock styles, time periods, and original or smart song choices. Note that I have very broad musical taste and tolerate almost anything. You will not impress me by avoiding popular bands and just going with bands that “didn’t sell out” but using the same acts over and over won’t impress me either. Be funny, be original, twist the challenge a little if you need to.

I’ll keep doing these and the person with the most points after 15 challenges (each thread will be adjudged complete after 7 calendar days, but doesn’t count at all unless there are at least 20 entries) gets a free year of SDMB!
