MLB: 2022 Postseason

Yup.

Aaaaand it’s over.

WHOOOOOO! Phillies blank the Astros!

The universe has flipped again! If Phils get 3-1 tomorrow, I’ll be standing outside waiting for the meteor/asteroid/quake.

crazy game last night! how much sleep did the astros get last night?

Absolutely.

Last night Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers threw 78 pitches, 52 of which were strikes. Of those 52 strikes, 5 were home runs. Not a real good stat when almost 10% of thrown strikes left the ballpark.

The Phillies are a crap team, 6th in the playoff seeding. Houston would have done much better against a good team, but they have no idea how to play a crap team.

“Professionals are predictable. Amateurs are dangerous.”

Or maybe the Asterisks just suck. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just wanted you to know that when I read your post to my wife last night while we were watching the game, she literally laughed out loud.

Some are reporting that McCullers’s leg kick was tipping his pitches.

You have that backwards. McCullers is a movement/stuff pitcher. Statcast had him at 20 fastballs, and Phillies were sitting on his curveballs.

I’m going by the box score for the game, which shows the numbers that I posted. If a pitch is either a called strike, a swinging strike, or a batted ball, it’s counted as a strike. Not sure how you can dispute the box score.

Ha - I read “strikes” as “fastballs” in your post, because I had just read the Statcast report.

The same must be true of the Cardinals, Braves, and Padres?

I realize you were kidding, but it should be pointed our the Phillies were at one point this year 22-29. Under the manager installed after that terrible start they played at a 95-win rate.

By the way, how far did that Schwarber homer go? Holy moly.

The stat cast said 443. God, I (Cubs fan) miss Schwarber. Rizzo, too.

ETA: The one he hit in game one of the NLCS was just nuts. 488.

What’s the farthest below a team has been that later makes the playoffs? Or win the World Series?

The 2019 Nationals were 19-31 and went on the win the WS. I don’t know if that’s the worst start for a World Series winner, but it’s gotta be up there.

2005 Astros started 15-30 and were swept by the White Sox in the WS.

The 1914 Braves were 26 and 40 in early July and in last place. They won the NL by 10.5 games and swept the A’s in the series.

Impressive. They played at an absurd .780 clip the rest of the way to finish at 94-59.
