Good gawd. My Royals have won exactly 2 World Series in their almost-60-year history, and there were 30 years between championships. No sympathy from this guy either.
Nationals fan here. We’ve had exactly one season in which we won any playoff series at all, thankfully winning the World Series that year, and since that 2019 season, we’ve been in the NL East basement.
No sympathy here either.
Cub fan here. 108 years between championships.
In other news, JT Realmuto stays with Philadelphia; 3 years, $45 million.
You’re omitting the 50 years of Senators frustration that preceded the Nats.
One of these days, I’m going to open this thread to find that the Nats have actually spent some money to acquire a decent ballplayer, and pass out from shock.
Every team can afford it. They’re rolling in dough.
Sucks to see a guy like Bichette go, but it’s not the worst thing for Toronto. They aren’t as good a team without him but there’s plenty of capable infielders on the roster. The infield is now Guerrero, Clement, Giminez and Okamoto, with plenty of backup. Not bad.
What’s puzzling is the Mets want to play Bichette at third. I love Bo and all, but the idea of him playing third base just doesn’t work. His arm is his greatest weakness - to be honest, it’s kind of his ONLY weakness. He absolutely does not have the arm to play third base in the major leagues.
Bichette is a nice player, and I understand overpaying for a players presumed prime, but I’m glad my team didn’t sign him. His career could well go the way of Starlin Castro: peaking in his early twenties, with speed and defense declining steadily, out of the game in his early thirties. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he never reached an .800 OPS again.
I guess we’ll see how this post ages. ![]()
Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones elected to the Hall of Fame. I have to say I’m really surprised they each made it. Jones’ first year on the ballot got him only 7.3% - the lowest first year amount anyone ever elected has gotten. Beltran was likely the absolute best all around CF of his generation - but was entangled in some cheating schemes as a coach.
Apparently, the Mets were the someone who finally offered the Sox more than a ham sandwich for Robert.
In return, they got infielder Luisangel Acuña (the younger brother of Ronald Acuña Jr.) and pitching prospect Truman Pauley, and got out from under Robert’s $20 million contract.
Jeff Passan is reporting that the Yankees and Cody Bellinger have agreed to a 5 year deal. I guess no one was giving Boras the 7 years he was asking.
Also being reported on the Yankee’s site:
I think this is good news.
Ages 30-35 at a very high pay, but so be it. At least we’re not paying for late 30s.
Third highest salary on the Yanks after Judge & Cole and just ahead of Stanton & Rodon.
The 2026 MLB luxury tax threshold is $244 million so the Yanks are probably going over with this deal.
It’s very good news I think. It does give them the same problem they had last year, Jasson Dominguez (and to a lesser extent Spencer Jones). I think that’s partially relieved because there is no Goldschmidt this year. Rice will be playing 1st but probably alternating with Stanton as DH and they may want him to catch from time to time. Bellinger is very good at 1st and in the outfield. It remains to be seen if Grisham is as effective as he was last year. Of course there is always the unknown of injuries. Having a lot of options is better than having too few.
Freddy Peralta was traded from the Brewers to the Mets.
In addition to Peralta, the Mets are acquiring Tobias Myers. Milwaukee acquires Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams.
I’m sad that Peralta has left the Brewers, but it had seemed very likely. I’m glad that they were able to get some good players in return.
They had to do something about the starting rotation. It was looking very weak. Now it’s a little better.
As a Cub fan, I feel a sense of relief that Peralta is out of the division. Anything that weakens the Brewers is okay with me.
Washington has traded Mackenzie Gore to Texas for 5 players.
Going to the Washington farm system are 3B Gavin Fien, and the Nationals will receive right-hander Alejandro Rosario, first baseman Abimelec Ortiz, shortstop Devin Fitz-Gerald and outfielder Yeremy Cabrera in the deal.
As usual, the Nats get “a handful of prospects.” Their whole freakin’ team is a handful of prospects, and has been since they traded Soto. You can look up what their record has been since then.
The White Sox were have signed reliever Seranthony Dominguez to a 2 year, $20 million deal.
