Baseball was quite a violent game in its very early days, much more so than in the 70s.
Part of the problem was just that the rules were vague. There were always rules against interference and obstruction but they weren’t really well defined in respect to collision plays. To my mind, the sort of just flat out football hit plays Hal McRae used to pull WERE illegal by the letter of the rules, but it wasn’t super clear, and so it just wasn’t well enforced.
I hate the TBS score bug so much. You cannot tell me that having the name of the pitcher and the batter takes up too much real estate. I’m watching in a loud bar, and I can’t hear the announcer. Just keep the batter name up there, and stop hiding it 80% of the time!
Velocity’s point was that they’ve never even been in the Series, much less won it. Although how they managed to avoid the Series in 2001 is a mystery that will bemuse sports fans for ages.
Then Velocity is wrong because the Brewers were in the World Series in 1982. The Mariners are the only current MLB team to never win a pennant (as I said) and therefore never be in the World Series.
The Mariners have been in the ALCS a number of times but never won.
Toronto beats the snot out of Max Fried (2.86 ERA) and Carlos Rodon (3.09 ERA) and then get suffocated by Bryce Miller (5.86 ERA.) Baseball is a funny game.
This has the makings of an excellent series, unless Yesavage chokes, then maybe not. I always pull for the full seven games.
I couldn’t tell from the replay if his foot actually touched the plate before he was tagged. I don’t think it would have been overturned, but it certainly should have been challenged.
