That would be poetic.
It sure wasn’t his fault they missed the playoffs.
The Mets had dogshit pitching. Their hitting was more than good enough, but the rotation was injured and the bullpen blew.
I don’t understand why MLB can’t tell us when the Blue Jays are playing on Saturday; this literally affects my weekend planning. We know it’s in Toronto. We know they’re playing either Boston or New York, because they don’t reseed after the wild card round, so we KNOW their opponent’s theoretical Game 4 is Thursday at 6, which is plenty of time to get on a plane to Toronto. It can’t be anyone else, right? And we know the same information about the possible opponents facing Milwaukee, Philly, and Seattle. So the fuck is the holdup?
Well, really. There are two Eastern time zone games (Toronto and Philadelphia), one Central time zone (Milwaukee), and one Pacific time zone (Seattle). Shouldn’t be that hard to set the times well in advance.
And all the college football games kickoff times are set, so it’s certainly known when the marquee games will be played. If that’s even a consideration.
Optionality. While we know the time zones, we don’t know the teams. Fox probably doesn’t want to broadcast the Yankees at the same time that TBS broadcasts the Dodgers. They probably don’t want to broadcast the Red and Guardians at the same time either. By keeping the times open they have more options to maximize eyeballs from the various markets.
That said, they certainly could slot in some presumptive times and if the wild card games do something funky they could move it around.
Juan Soto had an outstanding year. 42 HRs and 35 stolen bases is incredible, and he has more walks than any other hitter and is third best in all of the MLB for OBP.
Exactly right. The hate he gets has very little to do with what he’s ever done on a baseball field.
In the beginning of the season there was a lot of panic in the fan base. You should have heard sports radio when he hit .210 in June. The season turned out to be a good one for him but he did stink for a while. Because of his early stumbles he was down from last year a bit. When you’re a Met fan and they just mortgaged their future for this one player you are definitely going to compare him with what he did for the Yankees.
Detroit defeated Cleveland 2-1 in the opening game of the postseason. Splendid pitching on both sides, and defensive miscues contributed to all 3 runs. Thanks to a throwing error, the Guardians had a runner on third with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t score. Tarik Skubal pitched 7.2 innings for the Tigers, allowing 1 earned run, walking 3, and striking out 14.

Trust me, I completely understand. Julio Rodriguez is the same. He signed a monster contract but every year he sucks at first. This year was really bad until close to the All-Star game, then he started to pick up (well enough to be invited to the All-Star game which he declined), and it kept up until he was great by the end of the season. But there’s always that anxiety when he looks awful (swinging at everything and striking out all over) and it feels like a big waste early in the season.
He has done that at least 3 different years, basically every year after his rookie year. If he ever strings together a solid season from start to finish he’ll be deified around here I’m sure.
WHOO-HOO, CUBBIES! 1-0! I’m sure the local Dodgers fans like us today.
I’ve always followed, Cubs, Phillies, Dodgers and Red Sox. So all four are in!
I’m thinking Reds embarrass Dodgers in two. Sox will screw it up, Yanks are good.DET/CLE - who knows?

He struck out the side in the 7th, with his 96th pitch hitting 101 mph. That’s insane.
Screw Sabermetrics, start him in game 2.

And the reason they didn’t score…a baserunning error. With no outs, the runner took off for home on a chopper back to the mound, and was caught in the rundown.
Yes, but.
If he doesn’t break to the plate, the batter is thrown out at first. And the following batter flies out, and the game is over.

And it was their best player, Jose Ramirez.
Red Sox beat Yankees in Game 1.
Chapman, he of the 14 2/3 straight hitless innings, gave up 3 straight singles to start the 9th, but then shut the door with 2 K’s and a harmless flyout.
I thought the Yankees were going to go all “2003 Aaron Boone” there.
Dodgers have the long ball going tonight.

It was still a major mistake.
If the Dodgers bullpen keeps giving away runs…
I wish they gave away just 6 more runs.
Is that too much for a Giants fan to ask for?
