You aren’t a crotchety old purist unless you hate that anyone has the DH.
By golly, you are right. I stand corrected.
Looks like I jinxed them. I’m an ahole.
A leadoff walk in the 7th leads to a 3-run homer by George Springer. Now the Jays are 6 outs away from the World Series.
Toronto gonna win!

Trying the jinx thing. Rooting for Seattle. ![]()
Luckily only one behind with 2 innings to go.
I think Toronto holds on. Only difference is Dodgers lose two to Blue Jays, lose one to Seattle.
BUT… Toronto is a spoiler team… (Phillies ‘93
)
3 outs left for the Mariners.
Here we go
Suuuuuuuuuucks.
Well, damn.
The Kraken got spanked too. Seattle’s dreams for this Monday evening come down to the Seahawks.
Eeeeeeeesh.
Not a Blue Jays fan, but I am happy for Vlad!
In Canadian dollars? ![]()
At least they’re coming through.
Phew!
This has a very different feeling from 1992-1993. Those teams were supposed to win; everyone thought they were the best team in the league. No one believed in this team in April.
The LCS ended up being decided the way the two teams played all year; Seattle hit more home runs in the series (and in Game 7) but Toronto got more guys on base in the series, and in Game 7, and that’s what gave them the edge.
Right now, the only people feeling worse than Mariner fans, are Fox network executives. A World Series with the Toronto Blue Jays is always death in terms of ratings.
Fox Sports was awful for the MLB postseason. From stupid comments during the games to an invisible strike box, it was lousy. That right there can’t help the ratings either.
I’ve been a Jays fan since Day 1 in 1977 (I skipped an afternoon of school to go home and watch the Jays’ very first game on TV), and some of the nuances of baseball escaped me back then. A more knowledgeable friend explained that it was better to get guys on base than it was to hit it out of the park. A home run was nice, but as long as you get guys on base, then even a base hit will often get a guy home. That’s what matters in the end.
MLB will expand before 2038.
