I agree. I heard this argument presented on Mike and Mike (I think) last week and the caveat to it was that the owner(s) of a team would have “x” amount of time (2-3 years) to carry an average minimum salary (to prove they were trying to field a winning team) and if that measure failed ownership of the club would revert to MLB ownership until a new owner could be found or the team was contracted and their talent dispersed to the MLB winds.
You can’t really cite statistical studies about batting order then ignore that when they look at where to bat your pitcher, 8 is a better position for them than 9. The extra plate appearances are easily outweighed by the fact that 9 is a really good position to convert OBP to runs from.
A few years back, the networks experimented with less Yankees and/or Red Sox for a season. I remember reading at that time how low the ratings had gotten and how it had been decided before the season ended, that this experiment was only going to last a season. So brace yourself JSC, there’s going to plenty of New York/ Boston baseball on ESPN and Fox for awhile.
Blue Jays beating up Felix Hernandez, which is a shocker. Corey Patterson belts a dinger in his first game back from not making the team out of spring training.
Man. This Mariners-Blue Jays rapidly went from a 7-0 snoozer to a tight game. In the 9th man on 3rd with the Blue Jays holding a one run lead and Ichiro up to bat with two outs.
Wow! Sorry Ricky Jay and Kenner. But, that was a fantastic 9th inning. After Ichiro was halfway intentionally walked Rodriguez’s at bat was pretty awesome. He fought off foul ball after foul ball. Took a couple of close pitches, and finally was able to drive a ball into the gap to send the two runners home and the walkoff. I think you can blame the Toronto bullpen for the 8th inning, but you have to give the Mariners credit for that 9th inning. Awesome ending.
And. This is exactly why I got MLB.tv! Can’t sleep? Turn a game on. Fun stuff.
David Purcey just doesn’t have the control to be in the big leagues. I know he’s got stuff, but he should be in Las Vegas learning his command. They have some other situational lefties they could give that job to.
I’m a Mariners fan. I stopped watching in the 6th or 7th inning when it looked hopeless. I wake up to find they came back to win. I cant believe I missed that. Holy crap!
I had a friend over so I didn’t even turn the game on. When my friend left I looked at the Mariners’ web site and saw the score was 7-0, so I didn’t bother turning my radio on to listen to the last couple innings
Leland is giving his starters a day off for rest. Six games into the season he started that already. What professional athlete can’t play 6 games? They are dropping back in the standings and he takes out the some starters. Need some Ws.
