Yes we actually have relief pitchers too. We moved to the 20th century.
And the Rockies sweep today’s doubleheader and complete their first road trip at 7-1. They now have six games at home. 10-2 on the season.
Troy Tulowitzki had a ridiculous road trip - 13 for 29, 4 HR’s, 11 RBI. He was hitting .200 when he left Denver and is over .360 now.
This start is payback for my fantasy team, who’s top picks included Brian Wilson (started season on DL), Evan Longoria (DL, out 'till end of April), and Josh Hamilton (broken arm, out 6-8 weeks.)
Jorge! Posada ties the game with a lead-off HR in the bottom of the ninth.
And the Yankees Win!
That would be the case.
You poor soul.
Carlos Delgado announced his retirement yesterday.
Arguably the greatest Blue Jay ever. As a Jay fan, of course I hope he makes it into Cooperstown, but I think he might have a long wait.
A very bizarre call in the first ining of the Jays-Red Sox game which, as near as I can tell, isn’t covered by the ground rules. The call is inexplicable, to be honest, but is so weird it’s hard to explain; for some reason, in Fenway, the fair/foul line and the foul pole don’t line up. So an Adam Lind fly ball landed on top of the wall in fair territory, according to the foul line on the wall, but foul relative to the foul pole. The first base umpire called it a home run; after review it was called foul.
Since there isn’t any rule to account for the strange way the park is built in this regard, I don’t know if the call is right or wrong.
The first base ump then promptly made a horrific call in calling Carl Crawford out at first, so apparently the umps are turning in a bad one tonight.
The uniform number thing had me all confused. I was watching from the kitchen and couldn’t hear the announcers.
“Who the hell is number 42?” Goes back to cooking… “Is he still up?” Cooks some more… “Hey! He was white before!” “Wait. Isn’t 42 Jackie Robinson’s number?” Oooohhh…
Mrs. Robinson was there for a ceremony before the game at Yankee Stadium. Her chief baseball escorts were Robinson Cano who’s father named him after Jackie and Mariano Rivera, the last man that will ever wear #42 in baseball. From the little bit I saw, it was a nice ceremony.
Quick Trivia question, who are the 4 men named Robinson in the Hall of Fame? (Please don’t look it up)
Brooks, Frank, Jackie, and… Crusoe?
You got the same three I did. The other is tougher and no not Crusoe.
Danger.
I believe the line and the pole do line up if you look straight down the foul line. The line on the wall is naturally on the front of the wall while the pole is mounted behind the wall. The wall itself is probably several inches thick and right at the foul line it slants very much. When you look at this arrangement from the field it looks like the pole is not aligned with the foul line on the ground and wall, but if you stand right on the foul line it you can see they are aligned.
The ball definitely exited into foul area. If the ball hit on the top of the wall right on the line (and I couldn’t tell that) and was fair when it hit the wall, then if the top of the wall is in play (and I don’t know Fenway’s ground rule on that) then it should have been a ground rule double.
That’s close I think. I’m guessing the fourth was another Will Robinson better known known as Uncle Robbie. (I’m pretty sure his first name was Will.) He managed the Dodgers for many years including 1920 when they lost to the Indians in the World Series which is how I recall his name (no I’m not that old) He was also a catcher and was the one who tried to catch the grapefruit dropped from an airplane.
Ahh-- I didn’t notice that “Danger” was posted as a hint so I guess I’m right.
The correct answer is Groucho Robinson.
That’s the problem; there is no ground rule, to my amazement.
The ball clearly landed on the fair side of the line drawn on the wall. If the line on the wall indicates fair, that is a home run; Rule 6.09(d). If it’s not fair, why is the line painted on the wall there?
In any event, there SHOULD be a ground rule.
Close. Wilbert Robinson. (I love the weird Dodger “crosshatch” uniform.)
Close enoughWilbert
EDIT: What Colibri said.
Parallax, Rick. OldGuy is right, and if there’d been a camera angle right down the foul line, there wouldn’t be a discussion.
So, now that there is a replay rule for homer/foul calls (and another coming up for in-play/foul and traps), there need to be permanent camera positions in all parks located on the extended foul lines
