MLB: April 2015

Some people think Plawecki has even greater potential.

It’s a great time to be a Mets fan, though. The pitching has been unbelievable. And you’re treated to plays like this.

Kansas City got into another brawl started by their pitcher, Yordana Ventura, with Chicago tonight. Ventura is a menace, and he didn’t learn anything from his fine for throwing at Oakland’s Lawrie. Both Kansas City and Chicago were throwing at batters, something they’ve done against each other before this season.

Maybe Ned Yost needs some time off.

I’m hoping the Yanks can cool off the Mets this weekend. Both teams are 1st in their division but Mets I believe are the best record in baseball and Yanks are 2 games over .500 in a mediocre division.

Of course, there are currently more teams in first in the AL East than not.

Rumors all over the place , sports talk radio and now MLB network, about the Angels parting with Josh Hamilton.

Update: Now they’re saying that it’s the Rangers bringing back Hamilton in a trade! Now that would be bizzarre .

Watch out, Sherlock’s Pub!

It just occurred to me Joe Nathan will end up this year making 30 million per inning pitched.

Well, shit. Adam Wainwright had to leave in the fifth inning of tonight’s Cards-Brewers game. He took some kind of leg or ankle injury while batting. He had to be helped off the field. The Cards have had great pitching so far this season. Losing Wainwright for any length of time would be…less than optimal.

An MRI is scheduled for Monday, but after hearing Matheny’s remarks post game it looks like a torn Achilles. SHIT.

Article I just read said if it’s a torn Achilles, that’s probably the end of his season. Damn it all.

It’s actually true: Buster Posey is really not all that good AND Buster is a pretty stupid name.

Baltimore utterly spanks the Red Sox today. 18-7. Sunday day games can be odd, but that’s a viscous butt whipping for the Red Sox

It was sticky?

It was another case of the starter getting drilled early (Miley again this time; the Sox really don’t look like they have the pitching even to *get *to October much less win then, even with Hamels), then the kid they just brought up (Matt Barnes, who hopefully didn’t get traumatized) gets left out there to save the bullpen. Just keep chuckin’ it in there, rookie, and eventually three of 'em will have hit it at somebody and we’ll have one less inning before we can go home.

To call it a trade would imply the Angels got something. They got zero. Not even a PTBNL. I didn’t see any details on if the Rangers are taking on the whole contract, but I assume so to give up nothing in return.

The Rangers are bad and I don’t know if Hamilton will ever help them, but maybe he can turn his life around. Again. Didn’t the Rangers have a babysitter for him the last time around?

There has to be something coming back or it isn’t a trade. Even if it’s just cash, the Rudi Rule requires the commissioner’s approval. That’s why you almost always see a couple of warm bodies thrown into a trade to make it all legal, and that would be the case here too.

The Rangers will pay $6M - $7M the $83M remaining on Hamilton’s contract. If he opts out after 2 years, they paid only $2M or $3M. But they’re giving up no players. Manfred has to approve it. But that’s how bad the Angels wanted to be rid of Hamilton.

Well the Yanks did take 2 of the 3, but the last game was more a case of which team sucked less. The Mets emphatically claimed that by committing 4 fielding errors to the Yankees’ 2, and added a few base running boners on top. Nothing like getting doubled off of first base for an inning ending double play to kill a rally, and nothing like doing so on a pop fly to the outfield because you forgot how many outs there were.

Well, from a Mets fan’s perspective, this week against the Marlins and Nationals are the more important series to see them win.

I’m pretty sure Manfred would have to approve it whether any players were being sent the other way or not.

So, people are using this as an excuse to argue for instituting the DH in the National League, and I’m confused. What causes a torn Achilles? Is it the kind of thing that never would have happened if he hadn’t been swinging a bat?
