So are the padres and the dodgers the new rivalry? It used to be the giants and dodgers but after reading this story it sounds like SF is on the back burner for the foreseeable future … And are the dodgers the best team in MLB right now?

No. At best the Padres are the yapping young pup hoping the old dog has lost a step. They’ve got a ton of talent but they went 4-9 against the Dodgers last season. Machado has spent a lot of time running his gums since he left the Dodgers for the Padres and their team certainly seems to get up for the games but I think it’s very one sided at this point. Trying to compare that to the Giants/Dodgers is crazy until they start winning.
By the way that 538 prediction is crazy. It has the Dodgers finishing 16 games ahead of the second best team in baseball.

Oredigger77, you’re right that 538 prediction is crazy. They have the Yanks going from worst in the AL (2nd worst overall) to best in the AL (2nd best overall). That turnaround better start soon, because right now, I ain’t seeing it.
Now I have the mental image of DeGrom walking up to each batter and - POW! - KO’ing them personally. Hey, whatever gets the job done, right?

Writing a team off after they played mediocre for 13 games is crazy. They have 149 games left. They’ll play better.
BTW when did the Padres suddenly get good? These Dodger games have been crazy intense.
They had a good farm system for years, signed a big Machado contract, brought up some great arms, and Tatis turned into a superstar. Then signed some top pitchers, and they’re serious contenders. The Dodgers-Padres rivalry isn’t “bigger” than Dodgers-Giants, but it’s much more relevant.
Somebody has to give my Dodgers some competition, because it sure isn’t going to be the rest of the NL West.
It’s not out of the question that this Dodger team will end up in the argument for best team ever. But it’s a long season and a lot can happen to derail that.
I agree this year’s Dodgers could be an amazing team and 108 wins doesn’t seem crazy to me at all. Last year’s team was on a 116 win pace. It was the prediction of the next best team only having 92 wins that seems off.
It must be expensive to support his hot younger wife (if anyone remembers Kiana from Kianas Flex Appeal on ESPN 2 back in the day).
