MLB: April 2021

If Kevin Cash hadnt overmanaged his pitching staff in the WS the Dodgers could have been looking at yet another failed season. The Dodgers arent even in the conversation for best team ever. Lets see them win three or four WS this decade.

Sure and the Braves of the late 90s weren’t one of the best teams of all time neither were the 2001 Mariners. WS wins help but there are lots of factors that go into a great team. If the Dodgers execute on their potential this season they will certainly be in the conversation.

Jay Bruce retires. With Odor in the lineup shifting LeMahieu to first he really didn’t have a place even without Voit being available.

Yanks’ start is terrible. But not irreversible. Hitting is contagious, when they start to hit then the ship will right itself. But when, oh when, are they going to figure out that Sanchez isn’t the catcher of the future?

Yankee fans have to realize that the top four teams in the East are fairly equal. A Yankees team in last place is in worse shape than a Yankee team in second place. They are 2-4 against a Toronto team that has yet to have Springer in their lineup and 1-5 against TB. Several of the best Yankees are injury prone. Watching todays game they were making simple defensive errors/mistakes that winning teams dont make. Paul O.Neal even called them out. Its early but the Yankees are already on the ropes.

The Royals are an early season surprise team that has done well. They have a couple of superstar level players (Perez and Merrifield) and they play in a weak division. They are a fun team to watch.

I’ll be happy in the Mariners win one of the two against them this week. I’m going to Tuesday’s game.

Twins/A’s postponed for Monday, ugh. I know it’s only April, but these are getting annoying

Jay Bruce announces his retirement.

The Yankees would have had to release him anyway; he wasn’t up to the task.

Utterly awful job by the Washington Nationals tonight, losing 12-5 to the Cardinals. It’s April 19, and the team had the Covid issues to start the season, but it’s time to get it in gear now. I still think the NL East is a 4 team race.

No one realistically thought Joe Ross was the second coming of Max, despite his initial two good outings. Now Stras is out, and with Corbin subpar so far, they look to be in deep doo-doo.

AL West to the rescue. A great game, but the M’s came out on top.

There are fewer than 700 players in MLB. Say 800 including coaches and trainers. Why aren’t they all vaccinated?

I would guess an awful lot of them being between ages 20-40 and in excellent health don’t qualify or didn’t until recently.

As people have been struggling to get vaccines that are eligible, it probably would be a really bad look if the players took priority.

I’m sure politics has a lot to do with it. And, it’s amazing how stupid some athletes can be. Remember those titanium necklaces and bracelets so many players were wearing a few years ago?

Enjoyable as their early stumbles are, they still have plenty of time to turn things around.

If they’ve won only a third of their games come mid-May, or are five games under .500 at the All-Star break, then a real sense of foreboding would be justified. The combination of rabid local and national media and highly entitled fan base does intensify the pressure prematurely.

Presumably for the same reason most young people aren’t yet vaccinated, they’re not eligible yet.

Is this what the kids mean when they say feelsbadman?

I do, but this isn’t her. That was Kiana Tom, this is Kiana Kim.
