MLB: April

Or not.

I’m glad the Padres won their home opener, but damn…that was an ugly outing by the Dodgers.

Tim Lincecum is getting rocked again tonight. Six earned runs in five innings, mostly due to walks and a wild pitch. His fastball is clocking at 89 mph.

Geez, the Mariners are getting their ass kicked by the Astros, 13-0 after 4 innings.

And to nobody’s surprise, Astros’ starting pitcher Erik Bedard can’t qualify for the win because he has left the game after 4 innings and 66 pitches.

Welcome to the major leagues, Paul No Relation Clemens. Nice to have a 15-run cushion to let the rookie get his feet wet.

Well, it was the sixth, actually.

Le sigh.

Cleveland seems to be very good for the Yanks.

Tonight will be dicey though, Nova goes for the Yanks vs. Game Time Decision for the Tribe. Nova has not looked good at all at the end of spring training and his 1st start and Francona seems to have a rotation hitch already. So it will probably be a 1-0 contest.

8 games into the season, and the Tribe’s rotation is already a shambles.

Before the season, I predicted a return to form for Timmy. Gulp.

And hey, Exhibit Z of why pitching wins are a bad stat: Clemens gets his first major league win for an outing in which he gave up 5 runs in 4 relief innings.

Yeah, you were right on with that call. Arroyo had them completely baffled with his various off-speed pitches the first two times through the order. But big Matt Adams said enough of that, and it all sort of fell apart for Arroyo after that.

Nice to see the same relievers that threw gas on the fire yesterday get some easy effective innings today. And a solid start from Lynn after a shaky first start.

And I agree, I like Cozart too but he should not be batting 2nd at this point in his career.

The Nats had one of those “well, someone has to be credited with the win” sorts of games last night too. Craig Stammen got a blown save because he gave up the tying run in his one inning on the mound, but was still the pitcher of record when the Nats scored 4 runs to take the lead for good, so he got the win too. Lovely.

Gregerson did that last night for the Padres, too. One pitch, and he gets credit for the win.

I am really loving Shin Soo Choo (despite his errors the other day). Dude is really helping out the order with his timely hitting.

I’m glad for you. Just as I’m glad that Travis Hafner’s corpse knocked in 4 runs to help ruin opening day.

Yeah, not a great night. The Sox put their first run on the board with a balk by Gio in the 1st. Let’s hope they get it together before Atlanta comes to town. Going to the game Thursday, btw.

In his first 2 AB’s today, Buster Posey has a triple and double. Good start … Cycle!

(he’s otherwise off to a very slow start, now at .269)

A few years ago, Alan Embree won a game without throwing any pitches at all.

I assume there was a “caught stealing” involved?

And Zito’s still lookin’ good

Well, he seems to be returning to last season’s form, so you may not have been so far off…

But hey, the Giants are 2-0 in games he’s started, so right now he’s projected to go 16-0
