That is what the Yanks will be doing as they are off today.
How 'bout them Braves? Terrific start to the season, despite virtually nothing from BJ, Heyward, and Uggla (no surprise there). I’m a bit concerned that Teheran’s a rare Quad-A pitcher, and that Bryce Harper has leapfrogged Heyward in production. Thought it would be a couple more years before that happened…
Who is this Reds team? They get swept by the Pirates then beat Cliff Lee and the Phils. C’mon team, figure yourself out!
Man, those are some hardy Rockies’ fans! Paid attendance for the first game of today’s doubleheader was announced at over 21,000 (though some nasty doubters at the Denver Post are claiming fewer than 1,000 showed up for the game with the Mets after workers shoveled 8 inches of snow off the field and temps stayed in the 30s). Probably many more thousands crowded the park tonight to enjoy a cold beer, snow and freezing rain, with similar conditions forecast for tomorrow night’s game, and readings dropping from an expected high of 31.
MLB is out of its mind going ahead with games under such conditions. Hopefully no one gets seriously hurt.
They don’t have a lot of options. Travel times are so tight these days that rescheduling games is the very last resort. Double-headers really throw of the rotation. Better to just field the bench-warmers when it’s that cold and hope for the best.
Yankees and Indians both played “Sweet Caroline” at the games yesterday in a sign of solidarity and support for Boston. Pretty classy.
Anybody know if other teams did too?
I’m a big Ryan Zim fan, he’s been a team player since the bad old days when the Nats had the worst record in baseball, but he’s playing hurt and he needs to sit down and stay out until he’s healthy.
I heard the Brewers played the Cheers theme song. Which makes sense.
The bizarro Royals showed up in Atlanta last night. Chris Getz, he of the second-longest homer-less streak in the majors, went yard, while the previously-unhittable Kelvin Herrera gave up three home runs in a four-batter span.
Yeah, that’d do it. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have taken out their fury on the Padres by losing the first two games of the series by a combined score of 15-5.
You just wait. I’m sure they’ll rocket back and score a bunch more runs tonight.
The Padres, that is. The Dodgers are stuck in neutral.
What a weird thing. The Reds v Phils game was suspended last night in the bottom of the ninth with the score 0-0. The game resumed today at 5:30 to be followed in a couple hours by the series conclusion with the Phils whereby the Reds can sweep if they win tonight. And the Reds walked off in the resumed game and won it already.
It just seemed so strange. I can’t remember seeing that sequence of events before.
And is a much better song.
As one of those people counted in the paid attandence I can easily state that neither of my seats were filled for the games during this storm. I’m outrageously impressed by the people who did go though.
And my Redlegs sweep the Phils by crushing them 11-2. Still don’t know what to make of this team, or if I can trust them for long term success.
The Yankees just announced that Derek Jeter is out until after the All-Star Break because of a new crack in the area where he broke his ankle. That’s nice.
He’ll be well rested for the World Series!
Here’s hoping you mean a series prior to 2015.
Hard to believe that A-Roid might actually make it back before Jeter.
Meanwhile Granderson & Teix seem to be on track for their returns. Hopefully the Yanks will be in a position to trade one of the fill-ins for something they need.
