Indeed, but The Big Potato is going to come back!
So a decent night was had at the game last night. Despite the star pitchers not making an appearance, we were still treated to a duel, 0-0 into the 8th when Jeremy Hermida (remember him) hit a grand slam. Of note: we were a section away from Dice-K and his translating entourage.
Oh noes!
It’s a rough life, but somebody’s gotta do it. Too bad I can’t offer to come over and help you with that beer.
The Yankees won their first game of the season last night. Pettitte looked really good. Today they said Jeter won’t be back until May, and just now Eduardo Nunez got drilled in the chest with a pitch and had to leave the game. I thought initially that he was hit in the hand, but maybe it’s a rib. Great. So is Jayson Nix going to be their starting shortstop now?
I’m looking forward to the Reds/Nats series starting tonight. Should be a good series and a possible preview of the NLCS.
I don’t know where you heard this, but you were misinformed. Mark Prior is still on the AAA roster and is not listed as being on the 40-man roster for the Reds. I don’t know what that means in terms of their ability to call him up, but he is definitely not on the Reds currently.
The Giants’ starters haven’t given up an earned run so far this year.
Zito sure looked good this afternoon, both on the mound and at the plate.
Chris Davis still on fire. Added another home run and 5 RBI today.
Four games into the season, Toronto’s best player is injured. It begins.
Yeah. Now the link I saw a few days ago mentioning him being “available” and “likely to pitch an inning” in that last game against the Angels is gone. Either way, low risk high reward for the Reds if he can even approach his former self in a relief role.
Also, happily, the Reds are kicking the shit out of Dan Herron and the Nasty Nats 6-0 as we speak. A nice day for longballs at GABP.
And Homer Bailey’s fastball is magnificent.
Astros have now been outscored 19-0 over 2 2/3 games since winning game 1 of the season.
15-0 Reds. Dayyuuum.
It’s time for the Blue Jays to accept that Adam Lind eats it raw.
I’m not particularly concerned about a 1-3 start, but like early last year it’s vexing how the team loses not because they’re outhit or outpitched, but because they just do stupid things. The second baseman makes two straight errors, costing them a run. A guy runs into a first-out-at-third-base (and is out by 25 feet) - a cardinal sin, that stops a rally. A third baseman falls down fielding a ball. In a 6-4 game that’s your ballgame basically just by being clueless.
God, I hope not.
Nice solid debut for Greinke tonight as a Dodger (and the pitching as a whole), and the team actually managed a couple of hits with runners in scoring position to help make up for their 2-for-27 start to the season. Dodgers win 3-0 and only give up two hits to the Pirates in the process.
More importantly, I am 2-0 in games attended thus far.
Do you mean “I hope not” as in “not a good preview if that’s the way the Nats are going to play” or that you just don’t want either of those teams in the NLCS?
They’re both strong teams with a ton of talent.
So Yanks are off to a great start.
It is a long season though and they just need to stay near .500 until the major reinforcements return so no panic from me.
First sign of panic : “no panic from me.”
If anyone wants to watch an excellent pitching matchup tomorrow, catch the conclusion to the Reds/Nats series. It’ll be Strasbourg versus Johnny Cueto. Should be a really good one, especially since it’s looking like the rubber match in the series as the Reds trucked the Nats 15-0 yesterday and are on their way to losing today 5-1 in the 8th.
