Still no word about Richards’ injury, but field reports last night called it a “knee patellar injury” - if that means a ruptured patellar tendon, it’s a potential career-ender. Damn.
Oh, yeah. He filmed an impression of the Babe in '91 when he was with the Giants. When he came to DC, one of the Nats TV announcers found it and in April of this year, asked Williams if he would do the impression in DC if the Nats one 10 in a row. He said, sure, never guessing that in August he’d live to regret that promise. Here’s a video of it from '91:

Oh, that cracked me up. Thanks!
We haven’t had the time to go to the ballpark this summer, alas, because life has thrown time-consuming curveballs at us this year. But fortunately, there’s always radio, which lets you follow the action while getting other stuff done.
Gotta love all these walk-off wins!
The game resumed at 4:05 this afternoon Chicago time, except for one small detail…
…they’re in a rain delay.
It’s been a messy, sloppy rainy day all day in Chicago. There’s no way they’re getting 1.5 games in tonight. I assume they’ll play the regular game tonight, if possible. Make up the suspended game only if necessary for the playoffs . But that’s just my guess.
And that’s 10 wins in a row for the Nats, the last time the Babe was in DC, Walter Johnson was on the mound.
I’m wrong, the weather has cleared up in Chicago, the Cubs and Giants aren’t wasting time getting this suspended game in. They can play 1.5 games if no more rain.
…aaaand the Cubs win anyway.
An awesome effort in a losing cause by David Price against his old team tonight.
Price pitched a complete game (8 innings), and gave up one unearned run on one hit and one fielding error.
Detroit lost to the Rays 1-0.
I can’t believe this bullshit.
Yeah, the Giants were pretty much playing with the House’s money. If they won, great and if not they didn’t lose anything they hadn’t lost alreay. Although they did end up having a long day of baseball before coming to DC the next day.
I really, really miss Robinson Cano jogging to first on an infield grounder.

The Red Sox get Rusney Castillo, the latest Cuban mystery defector. At least that settles center field for next year.
Nice knowin’ ya, Jackie, good luck with your next club. Unless it’s Pawtucket, where you belong.
If the Red Sox can somehow find room for both Rusney Castillo and Mookie Betts on the roster next year, that will give them a big leg up on the Best Named Players ranks. Tell me an outfield of Rusney, Yoenis and Mookie isn’t the coolest thing ever.
Signing Rusney may be a step toward signing Yasmani too, or trading for Giancarlo. ![]()
Yuniesky Betancourt is always available. Always.
Looks like Manny Machado is going to have knee surgery and be out for the rest of the season. That sucks.
It will be the second season in a row with a season-ending knee surgery for Machado. I hope, for his sake, that he doesn’t end up with a drastically shortened career due to knee problems.
The Cubs owner, Joe Ricketts, is a right-winger billionaire who spent a lot of money trying to tarnish Obama with Rev. Wright in 2008. Then he bought the Cubs - who are the most profitable team in baseball.
This is disgraceful.
The SF Giants should have been given the win on a forfeit. 9-0.
(*Mets fan, though Mark Grace #17 Jersey in closet. Been to many games in Wrigley)
Edit: I don’t think the linked article mentions the 30 hour limit.
Think I’m missing something here, what do ricketts’s politics disgraceful as they are have to do with the difficulty covering the field during an unexpected downpour?
