MLB Awards Voting and Argument Thread

The baseball regular season is over so it’s time to argue over who should win the awards!

Please post your ballots for all the awards yu’d like to vote for. We’ll be voting for

AL MVP
AL Cy Young Award
AL Rookie of the Year
NL MVP
NL Cy Young Award
NL Rookie of the Year

To simplify things, rather than the varying voting systems they use for these things we’re going to simplify things on the MVP ballot; you can vote for only five men. Nope, you don’t get ten. Just five.

Please vote for five names for MVP, five for Cy Young, and at least 3 but as many as 5 for Rookie of the Year. You must name 5, ranked; no ties. In each category, points will be assigned like this:

1 - 10 points
2 - 6 points
3 - 4 points
4 - 2 points
5 - 1 point

Please do not game the system by omitting a name (e.g. “I want Smith to win but Jones is his cloest competition so I won’t name Jones at all.”)

Once we have a lot of votes we’ll start arguing.

Have fun!

AL MVP
1 - Mike Trout
2 - Josh Donaldson
3 - Lorenzo Cain
4 - Adrian Beltre
5 - Miguel Cabrera

Mostly going by ESPN’s WAR numbers, but I refuse to believe any center fielder is actually worth 5 wins with the glove.

AL Rookie of the Year
1 - Francisco Lindor
2 - Carlos Correa
3 - Eduardo Rodriguez
4 - Lance McCullers
5 - Ketel Marte

Tempted to flip Lindor and Correa, but went strictly by WAR; hadn’t realized Lindor had been so good with the bat.

I expect AL MVP, AL Cy Young, NL MVP and NL ROY to be landslides.

I would have gone with the 3 way tie for NL CY if it hadn’t been disallowed by the OP.

NL MVP
Bryce Harper
Clayton Kershaw
Zach Greinke
Jake Arrieta
Joey Votto

NL Cy Young
Clayton Kershaw
Zach Greinke
Jake Arrieta
Garret Cole
Max Scherzer

AL MVP
Mike Trout
Josh Donaldson
Manny Machado
Lorenzo Cain
Kevin Kaiermaier

AL Cy Young
David Price
Dallas Keuchel
Chris Sale
Sonny Gray
Chris Archer

I don’t follow the AL enough to have strong opinions on the above, but I am ready to fight over my NL picks. I am going to admit up front that I am putting Kershaw at #1 because I think he is generally going to be undervalued by others. It’s more of less a tie between him and Greinke for me though Geinke probably deserves it more. If I had an actual Cy Young vote I would do the same.

Is Kevin Kaiermaier really *that good *a defensive CF? Because you ain’t putting him in your top 5 for his hitting. And I guess I should not have been so fast to say the AL MVP would be a landslide. Trout getting some love despite missing the playoffs.

Not even Wade Davis is worth a 5th place vote for Cy Young with less than 90 innings.

I don’t know. I know I knocked him a couple slots from where the math seemed to tell me he belonged because he is pretty much all Defense and I don’t trust those numbers totally. Can’t ignore them either though.
