Nah. It is only crazy if the Mets actually get one.
Has a team been both the victim and perpetrator of a no hitter in one year before?
ETA: Just found the Expos in 1991.
My wife was offered the job, but we ended up turning it down. They wanted her in 10 days and at a paycut. Boston is cheaper than LA, but not that much cheaper and it would have meant me quitting my job. But the goal is still to live in not California by 2011. I have a job interview in Charlotte, and my wife has one in St Louis, so who knows where we will end up.
This being an MLB thread, I recommend St. Louis. ![]()
The Tigers have so many injuries, that they are no longer on the trade market. The logic of that is, they have to give their rookies a chance because a trade would not help them now. They would have to make 3 of them. In order to compete ,they need production from some of the 8 rookies . It is a scary thought.
Ordonez is out for probably the season. he will not get the at bats to trigger his automatic 15 million dollar contract for next year. That means we have to re-negotiate it. Is he worth more than 15 million as a free agent? We would love him back at 8 or so but 15 is a lot at his age and slowly dwindling stats. But his agent will not easily accept a smaller one.
I think Inge’s contract is up. It is high for his production ,but he is a fan favorite.
IOW, the dawn of the latest era of pitching/defense/small-ball dominance in the game. The Post-Steroid Era, if you will.
Rangers are in possible talks to trade for Jorge Cantu. The quest for a strong first baseman continues.
Marlins left fielder and reigning NL Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan tears up a knee while giving a pie in the face to teammate Wes Helms. Coghlan might need surgery.
In 1968 {I think–could’ve been '67, too lazy to look it up just now} Gaylord Perry of the Giants no-hit St. Louis one day. In the same series, Ray Washburn of the Cardinals no-hit the Giants. Good times.
Okay, I read the article, but unless I’m missing something it doesn’t explain how the hell a guy tears up a knee doing that. ![]()
I’d like the Mets to kick St Louis square in the nuts, please.
Last night the Rangers beat the A’s with a walk-off homer in the 10th. Cliff Lee had been the starting pitcher through nine.
It’s being reported that the Yankees turned down a deal that would have sent Joba Chamberlain to Toronto for lefty reliever Scott Downs.
State Of the Tigers:
They’re porked. I blame Dave Dombrowski (mostly). Because of injuries and a thin bench, we’re starting a AAAA team tonight. Outside of Miguel Cabrera, Johnny Damon and Brennan Boesch, there isn’t a major league player in the lineup tonight. If you look at the ages of the positional players, they’re 27ish. There isn’t a single positional talent that generates any uzz in the Tigers’ organization that would be getting some attention and major league time right now. We had to move our Opening Day second baseman, Scott Sizemore, who played badly shortly after an ankle injury, back up to the majors and over to third base now, because of injury.
Dombrowski has been good at finding and selecting pitching talent, and there’s a pretty good amount of it that’s there. The problem is, if the Tigers trade, other teams will want those players. If they give them up, the cupboard is completely bare, and we can’t afford practically any price any other team asks for for any player. Stephen Drew? John Buck? Jose Bautista? Mike Lowell? Jim Edmonds? The price will be too high, simply because we have no money with which to pay for rental players until injuries sort themselves out.
There’s a lot of money coming off the books in the offseason, and I’d love to see Magglio back, but not at 18 million dollars a year. We need to draft better positional talent, and we need to pick up the pieces we need. If we’re going to trade, that time was yesterday. We need to do it ASAP, because the Tigers are on a road trip right now and it looks like they might not win a game for the rest of it, which pushes them out of the hunt for the Central. Simply put right now, the Tigers can’t hit a fastball. They’re toast, unless they make a fistful of moves right now.
I say that Dombrowski is mostly to blame, because he hasn’t stockpiled the talent, but I presume the complete and total willingness to spend isn’t there either. Again, there’s a LOT of money coming off the books this offseason. Give up some pieces, shore this team up, and make it better.
Well I am thankful they turned it down. I would not want to trade Joba yet. I would like to see him sent back to AAA to try and straighten him out. I would even be tempted to try him as a starter again (in AAA) and never ever worry about Joba Rules again.
I heard Oswalt is asking for St. Louis or Yanks. No idea where these rumors come from and no idea what it would take to get him but as a Yankee fan I would be interested in adding him of course.
Dude, if you can get something for Joba, do it.
The Tigers traded for a third baseman. I think he’s borderline useless (I prefer Mike Lowell), but I can’t blast them for trying.
Joba has a lot of talent and he is still young. It is silly to give up on him already. But fixing him at the major league level is not looking like a great option. He is only 24.
That was last night. Tonight the nuts are on the other foot. At least right now, after half an inning.
Well, at least we whomped the snot out of the Brewers for 2 out of 3, giving us 4 out of 6 for the road trip. We’ll be tied again after tonight. LaRussa will get another DUI and tank the season…just you wait!

Jays complete the sweep against the Orioles, winning 5-0 and going to 12-0 on the season vs. the O’s.
Congrats to Brad Mills on his first major league win, pitching a two-hitter over seven innings. His reward is likely a free plane ticket back to Vegas, as it looks like Travis Snider is ready to go.
