The MLB all star game is the closest representation of an actual competitive game compared to other professional sports all star games. Pitchers, although limited by pitch counts, are genuinely trying to get batters out and likewise, batters are genuinely trying to get on base. The NBA all star game and NFL pro bowl are a joke, but I don’t watch enough hockey to say if the NHL all star game is legit.
Responding to the bolded portion, the answer is, not in the slightest.
Little League doesn’t count.
Dodgers don’t play again until Friday, so…there is no baseball until Friday. The fact that Kershaw, Grandal, Gonzalez, Pederson and Grienke are dinking around in a pickup game doesn’t mean baseball is being played.
About all they can realistically do is trade Price away for some prospects. I don’t see who else is worthy of being trade bait that you don’t want to keep.
I very much agree, but did you notice that Berman and Kruk were at a complete loss on how to cover it. With previous formats they could do the long drawn out “is it, it might beeee, it might beee, GOOOOOOONEEE”, but this time when the HRs kept coming with no let up, they sounded like they must have been hyperventilating trying to squeeze in all that hyperbole in 1:47.
Watching the All Star Game is depressing me, as a Blue Jays fan, and further convincing me they have to do anything it takes to make the playoffs this year.
Look at all this young talent, my God. IT’s one 26-year-old after another who throws 98 or can hit the ball 430 feet. Who the hell is Jake DeGrom? He looks like Tom Seaver out there. Joc Pederson, holy crap.
What kids do the Jays have? Okay, Devon Travis is good. Otherwise, though, the team is basically about 32 years old. Our young players who are supposed to be prospects look pathetic next to REAL prospects.
Josh Donaldson is 29, dammit. I’m still bitter over Oakland getting rid of him. Dammit.
Rick my Cubs drafted Donaldson. As a catcher. I totally know how you feel.
Pederson may hit the ball a ton, but when he strikes out (which he does often) he’s a whiny little bitch.
How does anyone hit that Reds pitcher (forgot his name)? If you guess where the ball will be, maybe you can hit it. Does the umpire even see the ball or does he go by the location of the sizzle as it comes in? How do you catch that guy without loading your glove with bubble wrap? Good lord, compared to him, Randy Johnson throws like a girl.
Pretty good All Star game, though I could do without:

[li]Fox insisting that Buck does the PA announcing[/li][li]FOX going to commercial break for the Canadian anthem[/li][li]Custom caps for the game[/li][/ul]
At 29, this is the best Donaldson will ever be. I’d guess 2015 will probably be the best season of his career. So they’re wasting the best season a Blue Jay third baseman has ever had.
Seriously, fucking cut Dickey and trade for someone who can pitch already.
You ready to trade Marcus Stroman for Johnny Cueto? Because I’ve heard some noise from Jayson Stark about that. The Reds would probably be ecstatic to get such a return for a half year rental player.
Agree on all points, especially about Buck. He couldn’t hide his Cardinals homerism while introducing Yadier Molina. Why was the Reds usual announcer not good enough?
Quite possibly. I love Stroman but there is a very real possibility he will simply end up, even if he is a terrific pitcher (which we do not know for sure) like Roy Halladay, having his peak years for a shit team.
Would Cincinnati love that trade? Of course they would. Trades are not always win/lose. Toronto has a shot at winning in 2015.
He is the LAST pitcher in the system I’d trade, for sure. Toronto has many other prospects. But honestly, the extent of general collapse possible in 2016-2017 is enormous. There is nothing in the system to back up the starting lineup.
Wow, it just shows how little time I’ve had to pay attention to MLB this year … I just discovered today that Ichiro is playing for the Marlins now … and batting .253
Okay, I just came across something baffling. What is this, a new change to the All-Star Game? I just read that Seattle’s Nelson Cruz was the AL team’s starting DH. But the game was played in a National League park - there shouldn’t have been a DH. Or have they always used the DH for the ASG, and I just wasn’t paying attention?
Nevermind.
Since 2010. It’s okay, Rip…15 more years to sleep😀
Sometimes I dream of sleep … (I hate fucking insomnia).
He still needs 109 hits to reach 3000. I don’t think he can make it as he really doesn’t deserve a spot on a mlb roster anymore.
Yeah, not happening this year and I really don’t see anyone giving him another shot at it. 3,000 hits starting at age 27 would have been amazing; just missing is amazing enough.
