Not that you remember this game and its particular piece of idiocy well, or anything.
Worst manager, in terms of total damage done to the teams he managed, in the history of the major leagues. I’m sure there are worse managers who lost their jobs and never got hired again, but he kept three different talented franchises out of the playoffs for multiple years and in two cases the teams he managed went to the World Series under the next manager after they jettisoned him.
Yanks slipped back into 1st last night on the backs of Tanaka’s best outing of the year and every outfielder jacking it out of the park.
Judge was back to work with a new cap on his tooth and is tied for the lead in homers again. Gardner is the third Yankee to followup a walk off homer with a lead-off homer. One was Joe Gordon and the other I can’t recall.
It was great to see Tanaka keeping his pitches down in the zone and getting 14 strikeouts, but my favorite stat from that game: 2 hours 23 minutes.
Shortly after becoming a Twin, Jaime Garcia is now a Yankee. The Yankees will send minor league pitchers Zack Littell and Dietrich Enns to the Twins as part of the swap and will also receive cash considerations from Minnesota.
Nice trade for Minnesota, as Littell might be very good. As a Yankees fan, I can’t get too excited about this. Garcia will eat up innings, which is a plus obviously, but I doubt he’ll be any better than Michael Pineda (the pitcher he is replacing, essentially.)
Not sure I love the trade, but I guess this means they don’t feel Chance Adams is ready to come up and help. Littell may end up being a regret in a few years. Garcia is nothing but a rental.
Although it is mainly a fantasy gripe, does it seem like more players are going on the DL with the new 10 day DL?
That was a bullshit call on the double-play at the end of the first Nats/Rockies game of the doubleheader. He was out at first but clearly safe at second.
Ever since I was a kid, I followed Cubs, Phillies, Red Sox and Dodgers. This year, I’m in L.A., and MAN! This Dodger team is incredible. I can see them waltzing their way to the World Series. They really seem to have all the tools. I think that even if they lose four top starting players, they’re still the NL favorite. They’ve won 73 effing games. Clearly have the rookie of the year, maybe manager of the year…
So my prediction is the Houston Astros beat the LA Dodgers in the WS.
That’s just the “shit always happens” thing stuck in fans like me of the Cubs, Red Sox and Phillies.
But honestly, Doper Baseball fans, which team do you think can take on the Dodgers and beat them? Who has the pitching and hitting roster that could take this year’s Dodgers? Is there even an NL team that could knock them out of the post-season?
So Altuve has slipped slightly below a .500 batting average for the month of July - 44/91. He needs to go 4/4 or 5/6 tomorrow to finish above .500 or 3/3 or 4/5 to finish at .500
Well, the Astros are the obvious answer, with a better offense, slightly worse but comparable starting pitching (especially if Keuchel gets back to his early-season form), worse closer, and probably better middle relief.
And of course any team can beat any other team in a short series; forex if the Nationals’ hitters go crazy for a series like they were in the early season there’s not much any team could do to beat them.
Assuming that the recent injury issues are resolved prior to the playoffs, I think the Nats are more than an idle threat to the Dodgers. I think that the Dodgers are a better team overall, but not so much that I’d expect them to be running away with a potential NLCS. And I’m definitely not willing to take anything for granted in a five-game series against the Rockies or D-Backs.
Other than getting in to the playoffs, I don’t think the Dodgers will be waltzing anywhere.
If anything it will be a merengue or a Cuban Slide.
Hey, sweet! Fuck-you-Jonathan Lucroy has been traded to a Rockies. Now I can go from hating him as an Indians fan to hating him as a Dodgers fan! Excellent!
To be clear, you can continue to hate him as an Indians fan. We hold grudges.
Too early to know who the real favorites are. September’s when you begin to get a sense of who the contenders and pretenders are. If healthy, Dodgers have a really good chance to win it. The Nats will probably have to get by the Cubs, and in a 5-game series, who knows. Dusty Baker’s a good manager but he fucks up in tight games. Ask anyone from San Francisco.
Just another day for the Dodgers. Down by one, bottom of the 11th, two on, and they send up Kyle Farmer in his major league debut. He smacks a 3-2 fastball down the first base line to score Seager and Turner, and the dog-ass Giants get swept!
Cubs get Justin Wilson and Alex Avila from the Tigers for prospects.
