Tom Gordon pitched for the Phillies from 2006-2008. So presumably, it was in that time period.
Right right. Like I said, I was trying to put perspective on how old he might have been at that time for the people who are following along at home. He was probably between 18 and 20, not 14-18. If you don’t know how old he is now it could go either way. A lot of people seem to think he is younger than he is because of his size and how fast he moved through the minors.
Ah I get it.
Tigers and Indians remain percentage points apart in the standings with wins today.
3 game series in Motown starts tomorrow. Guess who has tickets?
Gordon is a funny defender. He makes two bonehead non-error errors and essentially costs the team a run, then the next inning he makes two insanely wonderful fielding plays and probably saves two.
I can totally see why people think he will someday be a great defensive shortstop, but he is totally infuriating to watch today.
Also, if he can learn to lay down a slightly better bunt, he might start getting on base a lot more. He goes from home to first in insane time. He almost ran out a lead off bunt to open the game.
Jeter going to the DL; Yanks will probably improve without him.
But seriously, he is fun to watch when he is on.
Check out this blog for some highlights.

What I said about bunting in my last post…yeah he bunted a double last night (sort of).
The Angels released SCott KAzmir and are eating his entire $14 million salary this year.
Kazmir must be hurt, right? He’s only 27 and apparently he just can’t throw a pitch to save his life; no velocity, no movement. He was destroyed in the minors during his rehab assignment; 0-5, 17.02. That ERA is not a typo. Not seven-point-oh-two; SEVENTEEN.
From 2006 to 2008 Kazmir was not only effective but was punching out better than a man an inning,m each season. Then in 2009 he suddenly started getting hit, something about him spooked the Rays, they traded him to the Angels and he’s just gotten worse.
Anyone know what the hell happened?
I read an article suggesting Kazmir must be just like Steve Avery, another young lefty out of high school who just sort of fell apart from seemingly minor injuries. But that’s kind of an unsatisfying answer - it just basically says “Kazmir sucks like this other guys sucked” and doesn’t say WHY.
Rick Peterson tried to even things out by turning him into Victor Zambrano?

Zach Stewart had a nice debut today for the Blue Jays, giving up just two runs on seven hits over seven innings while striking out four. Unfortunately the Jays lost 4-3 against the Orioles.
I hope the Reds kick the shit out of the everloving Blue Jays. We need the wins to compete in the NL Central…the Jays aren’t going to win their division.
So be good Blue Jays and lie down and let the Reds have their way with you!
Game 1 to the Jays!
Wow, Adam Lind is rocking it. For his first 15-20 games I think he had one home run and was batting .240 or so; he looked like 2010 was not a fluke and that he was a total washout. Since then he’s been hitting like Lou Gehrig.
Travis Hafner is back and the Indians looked like their old April and May selves tonight. Our starter Josh Tomlin gave up 6 runs in each of his last 3 starts, and just 1 run tonight.
Beat the Pirates 5-1, in front of a nearly-sold-out crowd. And special guest star Carlos Baerga.
Baseball is awesome.
Disappointed that the reds lost, but I have started thinking of Brandon Phillips as the Ozzie Smith of second base.
Ow! Maybe. Brandon does have a lot of attitude.
He was hitting .232 with one home run and a .629 OPS on April 23rd. Since then, he’s hit .417 with 14 HR and a 1.334 OPS in 26 games.
Its a shame that the Reds squandered a good outing by Mike Leake, their promising 2nd year starter.
The Jays get the “new and improved” Edinson Volquez tonight. Since coming back from a AAA assignment (mostly to get his head on straight…he was having a rocky go of 1st innings in almost every game he had pitched) he’s shorn his dreadlocks and gone 1-1 with 3 earned runs in 13 innings of work.
Shit!
Jays have signed Yunel Escobar to a two-year extension for ten million bucks. The deal also includes options for '14 and '15.
Man that was a tight series! I sure am glad the “good” Arroyo showed up today instead of the “bad” one.
