And they did so. Albeit only for a couple of seconds, on a 2-ribbie single by Castro.
Naturally, the Nats pull ahead 13-12. Crazy game, can not wait to watch the replay of the full game later. Bottom of the ninth, can the Nats hold it?
Best game I’ve seen in a long time. I was screaming at Martinez to pinch hit Gomes for Avila, then Avila lays down a perfect bunt, moving two runners to 2d and 3rd, and then they both scored on Castro’s hit.
Angels and Giants in the top of the 13th even with the runner on second dumb rule.
Amazing to see in 2021.
In the Mets game Guillomore bunted for a hit and the pitcher bunted him over!
Chapman is one hell of a streaky pitcher. Either he’s unhittable or he’s crap. Right now he’s crap, blowing yet another save last night. I figure two months from now Boone will realize he’s in a crap streak and stop bringing him into key situations. Until then, the Yankees aren’t going anywhere.
This game was absolutely bonkers. Some of the highlights:
The Angels had the bases loaded with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th, but the Angel pinch hitter swung at ball 4 … twice…and struck out.
Angels came within an eyelash of winning it in the bottom of the 12th, as apparently the winning run crossed the plate just ahead of Posey’s tag. Call reversed on instant replay, and we go to the 13th.
The Giants score 2 in the 13th without putting the ball in play. They score 2 more on an infield hit (technically…fielded in short right field by the 2B) so they still haven’t hit the ball out of the infield.
Then they get 3 more from a Mike Tauchman HR, who had K’d 5 times up to that point. He was one strike away from tying the record for K’s in a game.
At one point the Angels had 2 pitchers in the lineup – normally in a DH game you would have zero. But it was an Ohtani game, so a pitcher was in the lineup (but not Ohtani after the 6th inning). And then they burned through 2 catchers (pinch hitter + injury), so they had the LF playing catcher and pitcher playing LF.
Here’s an insane tweet I just saw:
I can’t process that.
Kyle Schwarber staying hot, hit another homer to now make it 8 homers in the last 5 games
Kee-rist! Arizona can’t even play baseball at a Little League level. To wit:
Four Cubs pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter against the Dodgers last night, the seventh no-hitter so far this season.
According to several reports I’ve heard and read this morning, each reliever had no idea that there was a no-hitter in progress until after they had finished pitching.
You’re two days behind. See post #190.
this is what drives dodger fans nuts… one day they win 13-0 then one or 2 games later this …
Kyle Schwarber just hit yet another home run. Amazing streak.
Dodgers fans should watch more baseball outside of their own team - variation is the name of the game in MLB.
I’ve watched baseball my entire life. I love it. But I have a question. Why do baseball players spit so much? I’ve been around people. In general they don’t spit that much. Why do they spit on places where they are potentially going to be sliding? Back in the day (maybe 5 years now) they had chew and were spitting tobacco juice, which, even grosser.
Yeah. I know this sounds like it was written by an alien. I promise I’m really a Sox fan born outside of Boston, currently stuck in the backwaters of Yankees fandom in upstate NY.
Without spitting and scratching it wouldn’t hardly be baseball.*
It must have been fun to be an infielder playing behind a spitball pitcher in the old days. They didn’t take baseballs out of play very often and those balls had to have been gross to handle.
*I don’t remember seeing NBA players spit on the court, for obvious reasons.
On the one hand hand it’s nice to see Yogi Berra honored with a U.S. postage stamp.
On the other hand, there’s this dumb remark:
“We hope this stamp will serve as a reminder of Yogi’s larger-than-life personality, both on and off the field,” said Ron Bloom, chairman of the U.S. Postal Service board of governors."
It should mostly be a reminder that Berra was a terrific ballplayer who won 3 MVP awards and was named to 18 All-Star teams - not that he was a kinda funny-looking guy who said some goofy things.
Ehhh, I’ll give it a pass. There’s lots of good (or even great) ballplayers. Yogi was a personality and personalities can (and in Yogi’s case did) transcend the game.
