MLB: March/April 2025

Happy opening day! Kind of an odd one as the games all have a mid afternoon to evening first pitch.

MLB TV is being a bit of an ass..your free game of the day is the 10 PM Eastern game between the Athletics and the Mariners.

Yanks are on ESPN today at 3pm ET.
In the Bronx with the Brewers visiting.

Just a reminder that this week is “make friends with a T-Mobile subscriber” week. T-Mobile gives like 3 free subscriptions to mlb.tv per account.

The Cubs go into today already with an 0-2 record due to the games in Japan.

And rumor has it that the White Sox have already been eliminated from the playoff hunt.

Yanks up 4 to 1 in the bottom of the 8th.
Two solo shots early and a scrappy 2 run inning to pad the lead.

Austin Wells made history as the first catcher – and first Yankee – to hit a leadoff HR on Opening Day.

Blue Jays are not having a good Opening Day in Toronto. Top of 9th, Baltimore 12, Toronto 2.

I was surprised that Wells was the first Yankee to hit a leadoff Opening Day homer. I would have thought that Rickey Henderson would have done it. Good game for the Yanks, a little luck with the Judge grounder hitting third base and scoring a run rather than a DP. Williams a bit shaky but I’ll chalk it up to facing his old team.

Ryan Johnson made his MLB debut for the Angels today, after never pitching a single inning in the minor leagues. It didn’t go well. He gave up two home runs and five runs in 1.2 innings to the lowly White Sox, who start the season 1-0 after an 8-1 win.

Yanks and White Sox in 1st place! Woo!

The Blue Jays batted light hitting Andres Giminez cleanup yesterday, which I scoffed at. He then belted a home run, the only bright spot of the day. Shows you what I know.

The Brewers were upset that Trent Grisham wasn’t called for using his hat to try to stop a ball. I just don’t see it. Looks like he was trying to keep it on and let go of it to get to the ball.

In the video, I can’t tell whether the ball touched his hat or not. If not, there is no automatic three bases.

Ichiro Suzuki throws an 84 mph fastball as the ceremonial first pitch of the Mariners - A’s game:

Ichiro fires 84 MPH first pitch at 51 YEARS OLD!! :open_mouth::open_mouth: | イチローハイライト

The three base award is awarded if the fielder uses the detached equipment to touch the ball in a deliberate manner. It can’t just be inadvertent contact. I’m not sure WHY Grisham there would try to do that.

EDITED:

Nice start for the Yankees today. First three batters went deep. I’m not sure I remember seeing that before. Wells added a fourth later.

And in the 3rd inning a Judge Grand Slam has blown the game completely open. 12-3 Yanks with 6 Home Runs so far.

Nestor Cortes on the hook for 8 runs of them and Connor Thomas for the next 4.

ETA: And Jazz Chisholm just hit a homer to make it 13 runs and 7 Homers.

And judge hit his 3rd Homer of the day and it is only the 4th inning.
16-4 Yanks.

Ah man, Judge just hit one off the right field wall for a double. So close.

Judge has 3 homers in 2 games, sets him on a pace for 243 for the year. MLB says today is the first time that a team hit homers on the first three pitches they saw.

Scherzer left in the 3rd, this doesn’t look good. I know why Scherzer, Verlander and Kershaw are trying to play this year, but Father Time doesn’t discriminate.
