MLB: May 2018

It’s now the merry month of May. Ichiro seems to be done as a player.

Julio Tehran and the Braves are no-hitting the Mets through six innings, thus far.

Ssshhhh!!! Don’t jinx anything!

I saw that story about Ichiro. I don’t watch a lot of Seattle baseball, so I don’t know how he was doing right off the top of my head. But I know he wanted to play until he was 45. That seemed like a huge deal to him.

Why the hell did San Diego give the Blue Jays Yangervis Solarte so cheap?

He’s not been hitting good enough to justify a roster spot. A few weak singles. Still a good outfielder. I think this is a good move. We may see him back for opening day next year, as the game will be in Japan.

Yes, that seems quite convenient for MLB. While a lot can change, as of today, I’m not picking the Mariners or the As to run away with the AL West in 2019

Breaking news from MLB Network:

Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has refused a move to AAA, and will be DFA.

How have the mighty have fallen. And ugh, one of my worst fantasy baseball trades.

Nats have won six straight now, still without Murphy, Rendon and Eaton. Martinez made a good move by moving Bryce to the leadoff spot, so he’s finally getting some pitches to hit.

I was happy but not over the moon when the Astros traded for Gerrit Cole; the guy had a 4 ERA for the past couple years, after all. But wow has he turned it on this year - a 16-strikeout one-hitter yesterday and 77 strikeouts in 50 innings so far.

Walker Buehler and others pitch only the 12th combined no-hitter in MLB history, and the first in Mexico.

I was disappointed when the Yankees couldn’t get the Cole deal done, but I never thought he would be pitching like an ace from jump street. What’s the difference now? I never saw him pitch for the Pirates but they must have made some adjustments in Houston.

Yanks are 14-1 over the last 15. Best stretch since 1998. Still 1 game behind the Red Sox. The pair are 1st & 2nd overall in the majors.

After taking a deflected 102 mph pitch to his junk in yesterday’s game against the Cubs, Yadier Molina had surgery on his groin last night. He will be out at least a month. The Cardinals have called up catcher Carson Kelly from AAA to take Molina’s place on the roster.

And that was *with *a cup, right? Yeeeoooowwww anyway.

The usual answer with a guy going to the Astros is “he’s throwing a lot more breaking pitches” - I think that’s true of Cole as well. Probably some mechanical adjustments as well.

The Giants are off to a good start in May, outscoring their opponents 27-10, and scoring 9 or more runs in three consecutive games for the first time since 2015.

Somehow their makeshift pitching staff is holding things together, the offense is finally doing exactly what the club was hoping it would do, and the mood in the clubhouse seems to be about 1000% better than it was last year…so I’m feeling fairly optimistic at the moment.

He’s also coming into his prime as well, but still. It’s no fluke…his WHIP is a stupid 0.691. Verlander is unbelievable too. I’m absolutely not pulling a Trevor Bauer with the pine tar nonsense, but Houston is doing something remarkable.

Holy crap this team is exciting. It’s what you want.
