Yanks won, but now Paxton might be heading for the IL.
FU dude!

Jesus, my Reds…
:(:(:(![]()
ETA: I am starting to believe that Bell is a shitty manager based on what fellow Reds fans say about him and what I’ve seen. Lots of weird pitching changes and such. For example, this very game. Gray should have stayed another inning.
how does that happen exactly? the reliever wasn’t in long enough for him to get the loss?
Haddix lost the game in the bottom of the 13. First runner to get on base was via an error. Eddie Mathews sacrificed (must have been one of few in his career). Aaron was intentionally walked then Adcock delivered the game winning hit (it would have been a home run, but he ran past Aaron and was out.
wow my dodgers have the best record in the Nl and the 3rd best record in baseball all together (i think there’s maybe a game or two difference)
I do notice there’s going to be some double-digit negative records soon …especially in the games back section…
wow if i was the picture i don’t know whether id laugh cry or throw something …
Under current rules, Haddix doesn’t even get credit for a no-hitter.
And the Cubs complete the sweep of the Cards and move into first in the NL Central. The baseball world is restored to some sense of balance.
After their disastrous 1-6 start, which I’m sure was fueled by having to play their first 9 games on the road, the Cubs have played .750 ball and are now in first place by 2 games in the loss column. If the pitching stays healthy and consistent, they can make a run at it.
Today’s Reds-Giants game was delayed by a swarm of bees. This wasn’t the season’s first bee delay; Angels-Rangers on April 7 was briefly held up in the fifth inning with a bee problem.
Today’s Giants-Reds game was historical in a number of ways (non bee-related):
[ul]
[li]The Giants tied a record by becoming only the second team ever to hit 4 batters in the 6th inning. Pat Venditte hit 3 of them: 2 with his right hand, and 1 with his left. The record they tied was set in 1893.[/li][li]Giants pitchers hit a total of 5 batters in the game, setting a franchise record.[/li][li]Drew Pomeranz gave up 7 earned runs; this marks the first time in the history of the franchise that Giants starting pitchers gave up 7 or more earned runs three times in a single series.[/li][li]Pablo Sandoval pitched a scoreless 8th inning. He also had a stolen base and hit a home run, becoming only the second player in history to steal, homer, and have a scoreless pitching appearance. Of course, he also hit a batter.[/li][li]Not wanting to be left out, the Reds also tied a record, hitting 14 home runs in a single series.[/li][/ul]
The Reds bats are really coming to life as of late. If they can resolve that pesky pitching problem then they’d be golden.

He did all that and still lost. Bummer.
They’re hitting home runs but not doing anything else well, as a result of which they don’t actually score many runs. They’re third in the NL in hitting dingers but 12th in on base percentage, so they’re 11th in scoring runs. Great series against the Giants, but in the previous six games they only scored 14 runs total, so I think maybe it was just the Giants.
Like all Canadians, I am a big Joey Votto fan, but his numbers are troubling. It’s early, but he’s batting .226 with little power and his strikeout rate is really high for him. At 33 years old it might seem a bit early for him to fall apart, but that’s not actually that unusual a phenomenon.
Last year Votto again led the league in OBP - for the SEVENTH time - but his power went missing. Health issues?
I haven’t heard anything locally to indicate he’s injured. I think he’s pressing.
The Reds got no-hit last night, further advancing my theory that it was just the Giants.
the no-hitter was the second of Mike Fiers’s career, making him the 35th pitcher to throw at least two. Fiers is also just the 7th pitcher to throw a no hitter for two different teams (his first one as with the Astros) -
Nolan Ryan (Angels, Astros, and Rangers)
Jim Bunning (Phillies and Tigers)
Cy Young (Indians and Red Sox)
Randy Johnson (Mariners and Diamondbacks)
Hideo Nomo (Dodgers and Red Sox)
Someone named Theodore Breitenstein in the 19th century
It was also a milestone, as accoridng to MLB it was the 300th no hitter ever thrown.
To be fair to the Reds, a guy who just pitched his second career no-no is a pretty good pitcher no matter whom he throws for.
Fiers has a 5.48 ERA this year.
Fiers is a better pitcher than most guys, of course, but he’s a career 57-58 journeyman. Given that 35 guys have thrown two or more no nos, I got curious as to who the most mediocre pitcher to ever do that was. I think we can all agree the answer is not Sandy Koufax or Roy Halladay.
Fiers would have to be a pretty strong candidate, honestly. Bill Stoneman famously threw two no hitters early in the history of the Expos and he wasn’t a great pitcher either; he was a career 54-85, though that record has a lot to do with being with an expansion team. Stoneman actually made an All-Star team and probably deserved it but he was 12-14 that year for a really bad team. If you count Kent Mercker he’s up there too (Mercker is listed as a multiple no hitter guy but he only pitched part of one of them.)
Yanks rally in 9th to beat Seattle. My worry is now when the regulars get back in the lineup, they’ll do worse than these guys who have filled in so well thus far this year.
Keep in mind, part of why “The Replacements” have done so well is we feasted on the easiest part of our schedule. If when the regulars return in numbers; the team seems to struggle; it could also be strength of schedule at that point.
