If MLB is formally proposing this, then I’m pretty sure that it’s passed a vote by the owners. The smaller-market owners may not be terribly happy about a floor, but I have no idea how many owners voted against it.
As per this ESPN article (the Athletic article is behind a paywall for me)
So, yes, nearly half of the teams would have to raise payrolls, but that last sentence indicates that the teams would be moving towards a more equitable sharing of media revenues (which is one of the big drivers in income disparity across the league). So, the Kansas Citys and Milwaukees of the league will likely be looking at making more money in the absolute under this; for all we know, it may well have been the large-market wealthier teams which were in opposition to this proposal.
A Jays rookie named Charles McAdoo played his first MLB game yesterday and hit a home run.
“Charles McAdoo” just doesn’t sound like a ballplayer to me. It sounds like a gentleman scholar from Edinburgh in the early 19th century who’s trying to discover a new element.
White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami, who is tied for the AL lead in home runs in his first season in MLB, suffered a hamstring strain in yesterday’s game, and will be out for 4-6 weeks.
They had Las Vegas on one of the sleeves. It’s a little bizarre since MLB doesn’t allow them to be called the Sacramento A’s, they are officially known only as The Athletics. For the purposes of jersey sales City Connect uniforms are exempt from that edict.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jesus Sanchez had to leave the game early due to a wrist injury.
What makes it unique is the circumstances.
A fan (later reported that a young kid) thought that Sanchez wanted to play catch with him. So the kid threw the ball to Sanchez, who wasn’t looking. It hit him on his right wrist.
