MLB: May

Shelby Miller. One hit shutout, 13 Ks, no walks, retires 27 in a row. Against the Rockies.

Shelby F’N Miller.

It’s good to be a Cards fan!

He’s only the third Cardinals pitcher to pitch a shutout so far this year. C’mon, Jaime and Lance, what are you waiting for?

Well, they each had games in which they were pulled after seven innings of shutout ball, so the bigger question might be what Matheny is waiting for

Miller’s game was pretty remarkable. If my counting is correct 31 of his last 32 pitches were strikes (put in play, fouled off, called, or swinging)–one ball.

Been quite the week for one-hitters with no walks. Tuesday, Matt Harvey, 9 innings, one infield single, 12 strikeouts, no walks. Yesterday, Jon Lester, one hit (to the number nine hitter) in a complete game shutout, no walks. And Miller, one broken-bat hit leading off the game, 13 Ks, no walks. Pretty decent.

…and, Adam Wainwright just pitched a two-hit shutout (against the same Rockies that Shelby Miller dominated last night).

And Adam Wainwright pitches a lousy game today. Not only does he give up two, count them, TWO hits, but he walks a batter as well. Completely unacceptable.

Unbelievable. Between last night and today the Rockies were held hit less for over 50 batters.

It’s good to be a Cards fan!

Yeah, and tomorrow the Cards are sending Garcia to the mound. In each of his past two starts, he got rocked for one run and had to be pulled in the eighth! Disgraceful.

Indians chase Verlander after 5. He’s always struggled against Cleveland for some reason.

I was there tonight. Brutally cold (at least for a guy from LA who does not associate temps in the 40s with baseball). Anyway, Verlander was lucky to give up as few runs as he did. But that game wound up being far closer than it should have been.

Really, really nice to see Ubaldo pitching consistently well again.

This is such an odd Yankees team. They are finding ways to win like 1996. I was just hoping they would only be a few games under .500 at this point and instead they are in sole possession of first place.

Pitching is carrying the team as expected but the offense has been better than anyone would have expected. I think Cashman did an incredible job of assembling replacements for the injured.

Granderson is close to returning but really no one else important until July it seems.

And now Jorge De La Rosa is turning the tables on the Cardinals–six no-hit innings. One of these days, maybe even today, someone will break through–

Reds sweep Brewers today. Nice. Second place to the Cards whom have the best record in baseball right now.

We’ve just seen the high point of the Dodgers season. They managed to win 2 in a row against the worst team in the NL and the second-worst overall.

Go Blue.

Indians win game one against the Yankees 1-0 thanks to a complete game gem by Masterson, and are now sitting in 1st place in the division. Game two in an hour.

I’m glad the rain delayed these games, because the Indians were playing like crap when they were originally scheduled.

Jordan Zimm becomes the first pitcher to win 7 this season and Bryce Harper learns why they call it a warning track.

Warning tracks only work if you glance down. Harper was a bit too focused on the ball last night. He hit that fence hard.

Yeah, Denard Span said that when he got to Bryce, Harper didn’t know that he was on the ground, he couldn’t figure out what had happened. He’s lucky he wasn’t more seriously hurt, the slow-mo is brutal.

Hey, the Reds have won five in a row…against the Brewers and Marlins. Meanwhile, St Louis refuses to stop winning and (“The lowly”) Pirates refuse to be good little Buccos and go away. Pesky Cards and Pirates.

Just had to post this:

The uniform has a sash. I love the looks on the players’ faces in the unis.

Greinke returns for his first start since April and delivers a solid outing. Dodgers take 2 of 3 from the Nationals and rise to…the bottom of the NLWest.

Go team.
