Samardzija finally with a win as the Cubs spank the Giants
And Cueto was having an equally good game, except his defense sucks and so does his offense.
I HATE it when runs are given due to errors. Of course Manny Parra, he of the shitty Reds bullpen, immediately added two more to pad the score.
<<sigh>>
Ugh. Reds manage to make it interesting but fall 4-3. That makes them now the MLB leaders in losses by one run with 13. Along with the shittiest bullpen ERA in the majors and it’s safe to say this team ain’t sniffing the playoffs.
Astros have a 5 game streak, are out of the major league cellar, and George Springer is going a bit crazy with the bat after a horrible first half-month in April - started out with a .480 OPS in April, now has an OPS of around 1.100 for May and 6 home runs in the last 6 games.
Go Sox!
Bradley can hit Braves pitching, at least. American Leaguers, still to be seen.
The Giants have snuck up and achieved the best record in baseball; but I’m damned if I can think of anybody on the roster who would make the All Star team. Tim Hudson, probably. Posey off to a slow start; Sandoval has surged dramatically and is finally hitting his weight (ha!); Lincecum has no idea where the ball is going; and Belt is on the DL. But they keep winning.
What the heck was going on with the umpire crew in the Sox-Rays game tonight? Tampa pitchers hit 3 RS batters and no one is ejected?! The Sox have 3 managers and one pitcher kicked out. This made no sense.
I love the rivalry - it’s better than the Sox-Yankees right now. But this was just silly. The umps really f’d up. How was Price not kicked out in the 4th?
It was an unbelievably good month (19-8) for the Giants. I’m not even sure what to say about it. Everything is working right now. Except for the things that aren’t working (Brandon Belt on the DL, Matt Cain on the DL, Buster Posey slumping and on the bench with a bad back)…but every time there’s been a setback, someone has stepped in to fill the gap. Logic tells me they must come down to earth sooner or later, but until they do, I’m going to firmly believe that they’re going to finish the season with 107 wins, then sweep the playoffs.
After all, it’s an even year, right?
The one deliberate HBP pitch thrown by a Boston pitcher didn’t even hit Longoria, either. OK, it was at his head, and the Sox had the reliever up and throwing already knowing it was going to happen, so no argument there, but it shouldn’t have gotten to that point.
I expect there to be some discussions with the front office today.
I do like the batting practice music part of the rivalry (TB leaves it off for the Sox in the Dome; Boston retaliated by playing children’s songs for the Rays yesterday), but the stuff that can get guys hurt has to stop.
I felt bad for Royals starter Aaron Brooks today. Making his first MLB start, he let the first eight men reach base safely - something never before done by a Blue Jays team - and departed after giving up seven runs while getting just two men out. I like my team to win but the poor guy just had a nightmare come to life.
He appeared to have good stuff but he simply had not an ounce of control, something he actually is reputed to have, so I guess it just got to him.
Story is David Price got fined by MLB for drilling Ortiz. So apparently they agree he did it on purpose, but apparently not on *enough *purpose to get a suspension as the rules require.
Have you tried the new EA Sports game, “Professional Sports League Disciplinary Committee?” It’s great. You play as the head of player discipline for the league of your choice - MLB, NFL, NBA or NHL - and are presented with cases.
To win, just hit buttons at random.
I’ve noticed you haven’t been complaining about the Blue Jays recently. Are you treating them with the superstitious china doll reverence a teammate would treat a starting pitcher in the 8th inning of a perfect game in the dugout?
