MLB: Post-Season 2019

Gio goes deep!

Only 1 run down now.

Gardner misses just misses a homer and then slaps a single through the huge gap for the shift.

All right Astros, put these Yankees to bed right now.
(As a Rangers fan, it pains me to see the Astros in dynasty mode like this, especially after our 2011 collapse, but Texas over New York any day)

Damn, I thought they were going to steal another hit. Correa just missed a great play off Judge. Hopefully the Yanks can do some damage with a lead-off hit.

Hopefully the Yankees can extend the game to 6 more outs.

I know it is instinct to get out of the way of the ball, but I wish Gardner has the presence of mind to be hit by that early bad pitch.

Holy Shit! 2 run homer.

No!!!

FUCK!

The two-run homer off the spouse-abusing closer giveth, and the two-run homer off the spouse-abusing closer taketh away.

Also, holy shit Jose Altuve is good.

Indeed.

Amazing how much your emotions can change over 10 minutes in this game.

Great series Yankees.

I wonder if Alvarez doesn’t get pulled if he takes that HBP, instead of getting out of the way? Biggio would’ve.

OTOH, another young Astro really came through at a time the team needed some grit. The Yankees are not an easy team to pitch to, and Jose Urquidy did great work in limiting them until the rest of the pen could take over. Looking forward to seeing more of his work later in the WS, and for the next couple of years here.

Holy shit, the Astros are in the World Series. Again.

Congrats to the Astros, the best team won.

The Astros Defense was disgustingly and crushingly good last night.

I hope that was the last pitch Chapman ever throws for the Yankees. With all the injuries, just making it to the ALCS was a great run. Never would have made it unless Andujar gets injured. Urshela is far superior to him and thank goodness he got a chance to show it this year.

OK Cashman, here’s your to-do list:
1- Get rid of Andujar and sign Urshela to a long term deal
2- Sign Judge to a long term deal
3- Find two bona fide starters, preferably three. German is not coming back
4- Don’t try to sign Chapman and for God’s sake, quit fucking stocking the team with relievers.
5- Let Romine go. He deserves a chance to be #1 somewhere, Higasioka is a more than capable #2

So, read an article today about how the loss snaps the Yankees’ record of consecutive decades with a WS Appearance at 9 (1920s-2000s) - which is fucking amazing. So I got curious and ran some numbers. The columns are:
Dec w/ WSA - Decades with a World Series Appearance (didn’t care about wins for this).
Longest Streak - Longest consecutive number of decades with a WSA
Current Streak - Who’s currently got any shot at reaching the Yanks’ record (not that it’s likely any of us will be alive to see it, since the current active streak is 2!)
**Notes **- To explain the methodology of merging old/inactive franchises with current ones.
The ***** represents the max in that category.

ETA: No team has appeared at least once the World Series for every decade it’s been played (1903-2019).

“Seattle Mariners 0 0 0”

Woohoo! Perfect franchise record baby!

Jose Altuve’s having a hell of a postseason. He hit three homers against Tampa Bay (they don’t give out MVPs for the ALDS but he’d have been a candidatem though I guess GErrit Cole would have won) and now the ALCS MVP and a walk off homer.

Altuve has 13 career postseason dingers, tied with George Springer for the Astros career record. Of course guys play more postseason games now, but they’ve both racked them up in just 43 games, which is impressive.

What’s coopl about Jose is that he had “only” 128 regular season bombs, so almost ten percent of all the homers he has ever hit in games that mattered have been postseason dingers. That may be some kind of record, if you limit it to players with a minimum number of bombs (so as to eliminate guys who hit like one postseason homer and none, or very few, in the regular season.) Among players with more than 10 postseason taters, the closest to Altuve in this regard is Jayson Werth, who smashed 15 postseason circuit clouts but “only” 229 in regular season play.

Jim Leyritz, in case anyone else was wondering: 90 regular season HRs, 8 postseason HRs.
