Yes you heard that right, that’s what Smoltz said.
FWIW, the “interference” happened as he was reaching the bag and should not have been called.
The announcers mentioned that they had searched the records of MLB, NHL, and NBA and found no instance of the home teams losing the first six games of any 7 game series. If the Nats (whom I view as the successors to the Expos) win tonight they will set a record that can never be broken.
Whether you like it or not is one thing. I, too, do not like it and I wanted runners on 2nd and 3rd.
But the rule is clear, and by rule Turner did not run in the lane he was supposed to run in, and he did interfere with the throw. MLB Tonight showed the rule and text, and Harold Reynolds explained it well after the game was over. I agree with the call.
But I still do not like it. (sigh)
On the Soto side of the argument, Pujols made his major league debut when he was 21; Soto just turned 21 last week. I’ve seen numbers comparing him with other 19-20 year-old players that put him in some very good company. We still have a long way to go to see where his career ends up, but he’s made an impressive start.
FWIW, the manager of the Astros agrees with Turner that it was a bad call. Classy.
Yes, but Harold Reynolds is a confirmed moron.
By the book, it was the right call. But it’s the most inconsistently applied rule in that book - even moreso than the strikezone. The line from the right-handed hitter’s batter’s box across fair territory to foul territory back into fair territory to reach the base is a giant mess. It’s always going to a subjective call, but it should based more on intent than it currently is. It needs reworking over the off-season.
Just like game 1, the Astros are getting runners on vs. Scherzer but can’t get them home.
Any reason to take Greinke out?
There are two ways bringing a starter out of the pen can go, it can either end up like MadBum pitching like an animal in 2014 or like Wacha giving up a homer to Ishikawa that he never recovered from.
Astros leaving too many guys on base and that will bite them in the ass.
Was surprised Cole was getting up, Urquidy has three days rest and looked really good. He’d seem a better choice and has experience as a reliever.
HOLY CRAP! This is the most improbable WS since no one is winning at home… so far. Who wins tonight? Quick!
Wondering this too. Maybe another batter? But his pitch count wasn’t high, so…
And the Nats take the lead as soon as Greinke is taken out.
Greinke hasn’t gone deep into many games so I think Hinch had a short leash on him after the second time through the line-up. Still, he seemed to be pretty solid and might have gotten through that hiccup.
However, Harris has been solid, but he may have been seen too many times by the Nationals this series.
Personally, I am okay with the Nats winning the world series now that Harper is not there.
Man am I glad the Astros got Roberto Osuna.
I just said that
One inning to go!
Can these guys get three more outs? This is a great underdog story. I hope they let Corbin continue.
I hope the Nats pile on a couple more runs, just because.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
