No - it was intended to vote for who you wanted. Though I disagree with Bailey - Andrus had a much better and important season than any closer in the league did.
And the official announcement for the AL Cy Young Award has arrived, and it is Zack. Congratulations, and thanks for giving us Royals fans something to look forward to!
Nice! Extremely well-deserved. I see that someone in Seattle sent his vote to Zach as well. I couldn’t be happier to be a Royals fan.
(Okay - I could be much happier, in fact. But let’s not dwell on that…)
Interesting how similar the choice the voters faced was to the 1993 ballot, and how differently they decided.
So who do *you *follow on Twitter? I was just looking at that page. However, I think that Randy Johnson should have won that year - the tweet I saw was saying Appier should have won.
Appier was a big stathead favorite on rec.sport.baseball back in the day, and the Jack McDowell vs. Appier Cy Young thing was up there with the ARod vs. Juan Gonzalez MVP vote as an example of bad awards voting.
Wow - was just reading an article on Greinke’s best 5 games this season. This one stood out:
Giving up one run over 8 innings, and your ERA takes a hit. Ouch.
Well done to ElvisL1ves, the only poster to get both AL and NL manager of the year picks correct!
23 of 47 got the NL CY winner, Lincecum (including moi`).
Wow - crazy voting. Wainwright gets the most 1st place votes, but finishes 3rd! Carpenter is left off of 2 ballots entirely, and finishes 2nd! Crazy, crazy, crazy.
Player 1st 2nd 3rd Pts.
Tim Lincecum, SF 11 12 9 100
Chris Carpenter, STL 9 14 7 94
Adam Wainwright, STL 12 5 15 90
Javier Vazquez, ATL 1 3
Dan Haren, ARI 1 1
All but E-Sabbath, mikeargo and gazpacho got Joe Mauer correct. Teixeira finished second, Jeter third, Cabrera fourth. Mauer got all but one 1st place vote, which went to Cabrera.
I was rooting for Jeter, but you can’t argue with the MVP going to a catcher who hits .365 with good power despite a shortened season - that much more so when his best teammate missed the end of the year.
I feel the same way. I would have loved to see Jeter win, still think he should have in 99. But I can’t complain about the winner and expected it.
How inarguable was Pujols’ unanimous win today? So inarguable that even on this board, nobody argued with it.
I voted for Albert, even tho I had a soft spot for Hanley.
The scary thing is he won a unanimous MVP having a season that isn’t really any different from his usual season.
