MLB: Post-season

He made two or three boneheaded plays on defense and a couple of bad baserunning decisions over the course of the season that got some people ranting about his temperament or his experience or his personality or whatever.

He’s pretty animated at times, and he’s lost his temper occasionally (those moody Latinos, amirite?), but i think he’s great. He’s certainly plenty of fun to watch, he hits the ball hard, runs like crazy, and has a cannon attached to his right shoulder. What’s not to love?

Thanks for the perspective. I have a feeling that if he were a Giant, I might have a slightly different opinion of him…but today I am very happy. for a number of reasons, to hear that he’ll be warming the bench.

Of course, that does raise the possibility of a 9th inning, pinch hit, season saving, home run…<shudder>

You’d better be worried about your own boys today. I suspect you do not want to go back to DC.

No, it isn’t, but every once in a while Kershaw exceeds what most would consider realistic. I’m just hoping that today is one of those times.

I’m feeling the same way about Ryan Vogelsong.

Should have challenged the call on that pick-off attempt at first.

It looked like it was out, and by the fifth inning you’ve only got one more inning to use the challenge anyway.

ETA:

With the challenge system, i think they should institute a rule whereby the manager must come out of the dugout and challenge immediately. Right now, they go out there and have a conversation with the umpire in order to give their people time to look at the replay and decide whether or not to challenge. I tend to think the decision to challenge should be based on what you see live on the field. Rely on your own eyes, and on what your players tell you about the play.

That should have been a challenge, and the out of Wong should have been a challenge. Baffling decisions.

Apparently the Wong incident, according to Joe Buck, is an unreviewable play. Fair/foul calls can only be challenged in the outfield, apparently.

Dodgers with runners at the corners and no-one out now.

The truly maddening comments came last year, when there were people saying (okay, maybe it was just one guy, but still) that he’s a super selfish player because that’s what Cubans are like.
ETA: I didn’t hear Buck talking about the Wong play. I must have tuned him out. The exceptions for review are really weird, to me.

One of the many grating things about Fox Sports / Joe Buck is that they obviously decide in advance what the Story of the Day is, and beat you over the head with it.

Today’s story: Kershaw is God.

Look at him run out a ground ball! Is there nothing he can’t do??

Kershaw gives up a three-run dinger to Holliday.

3-2 Cards.

Matt Adams.

Big City gettin’ some cold cuts tonight! WOOOO!!!

Sorry. Adams, not Holiday. Don’t know what i was thinking. I get my pudgy guys named Matt confused, apparently.

Come on Dodgers!

I don’t really have a rooting interest in this game, but i’d like to see another game tomorrow, and it would be an added bonus to see the Best Fans in Baseball[sup]TM[/sup] go home disappointed.

Well, I am a Dodgers fan and I’m also really sick of the Giants and the Cardinals. I really don’t want to have to root for whoever wins the AL, because I hate the AL game.

Well, damnit.

Wait, why do I need a BREAKING NEWS alert about the game I am currently watching on the same channel?

Way to go Cards! Now c’mon Giants, let’s finish it up tonight!

Aaaaaaaaand done! Sick of Cards too, but they deserved this series.

Hockey season starts tomorrow…

Go Sharks.

All I can say is, the Cards had better curb-stomp the dog-ass Giants next round. I’m done for the year.

Four years ago the Giants hadn’t won anything in Forever; now people are sick of us. Tsk, tsk…fickle.

So weird about Kershaw. Absolutely dominating regular season – I dreaded the thought of the Giants having to see him in the NLCS. It’s like going into the series down 0-2. So…thanks for that, Cardinals.
