Well, that’s not a great start.
On further reflection, it doesn’t look like Lackey has any stuff at all so far.
ETA: Though that double by Ishikawa was actually a catchable ball, as it wound up hitting about a foot from the base of the wall. But I can’t blame Grichuk for ‘misplaying’ it; I think the wind is the only thing that kept that ball from landing in the bay.
The Cardinals are getting pretty good wood on Hudson too, they’re just hitting more balls at people.
ETA: Except Pierzynski, who probably couldn’t hit a beach ball.
That wall is apparently really hard to play today.
True, but they knew going in that it was going to be a complete rebuild. With what all the prospect guys are saying, we should know within the next couple of years whether being purposely terrible for his first three years actually got them anywhere.
I think the Friedman thing is more interesting: when Epstein moved to Chicago, he was getting more autonomy, but he was getting into a situation fairly similar to Boston (high budget if needed, high visibility market, obsessive fans and culture). Friedman is going to have literally triple the resources that he had in Tampa, but people are going to be watching him now, and there will be much higher expectations.
Looking like we’re going to be into the bullpens early in SF…
I’d never heard of Kolten Wong before this week, but he’s quickly becoming a major irritant.
Giants hitters: “4 runs in the 1st…that’s a good days’ work. We’ll punch out early and go home.”
I hate baseball.
Do you remember how game 4 of last year’s World Series ended on a pickoff? That was Kolten Wong. This year his contributions are a bit more positive.
I love baseball.
These playoffs have not disappointed.
Oh, sure…objectively speaking, these playoffs have been better than anyone could possibly imagine (except for the Networks of course, who would prefer LA, NY, Boston, and NY in the Championship Series).
But I’m not objective. I’m a Giants fan. And the last 7+ innings of this ballgame have sucked every single ounce of enjoyment out of my life…and at this point i can only imagine it getting worse.
Stupid game.
EXCUSE ME, BASEBALL, DID I NOT SAY I HAVE REHEARSAL THIS EVENING.
(double grumble)
I’m with ya, bro. At this point, what are the odds the Giants can accidentally back into a run, before the bullpen gives one up (when does Wong hit again)? Can they get 4 batters HBP in a row?
Not likely. Given what we’ve seen so far this postseason, I’d say the odds are only about 47/53 on that.
That was an ugly throw.
Giants win on an error.
Oh, how I love this game
It’s absolutely gonna kill me, but I love it.
I wouldn’t have expected that.
But it’s just as well, I was going to have to switch to TBS shortly anyway.
It wasn’t 4 hit batters, but it was close. But hell yeah, I’ll take it. At least the Giants managed to work a hit into the “rally”.
I love this game but I hate Mike Matheny. His handling of the rookies this year along with the pitching staff in the playoffs is borderline criminal. Makes me wish for the days of LaRussa and Duncan.
Haven’t you been watching the playoffs? This was the only possible way for this game to end.
This was a stupid, ugly, stupid game. But a win is a win, right?
Giants 2014…We’ll Take It.
I have to think that when one team is scoring with home runs, and the other team is scoring by desperately scratching and clawing to get a baserunner in the hopes that a wild pitch, wild throw, booted grounder, or dropped catch will happen… the team that can hit home runs has the advantage.
However, if the Giants manage to win the next game when a Cardinals outfielder catches a fly ball, drops it when he hits the ground, picks it up, and inexplicably hurls the ball into the upper deck, I’ll certainly take it.
