MLB: September 2012

I think people would call it the “Parkway” series, since the Baltimore-Washington Parkway connects the two metros. Or maybe the I-95 series. But BWI is an airport, a stationary feature. It doesn’t really connect the two cities. And it’s really Baltimore’s Airport, even though it has “Washington” in the name (and it’s being called Thurgood Marshall airport these days anyway). Washington’s airports are National and Dulles.

The term I hear a lot it the Beltway Series, not as accurate as the Parkway Series though.

Wow, way to suck the life of my quickly-chosen term. I do, however, appreciate your lesson on the particularities of the BWI Airport, especially since, as someone who lived in Baltimore for 8 years, i knew nothing about it. Nice job.

Presumably you’re not the only person reading this thread. All in the name of fighting ignorance, after all.

I’m still hoping for another Bay Bridge Series here.

Hey, we’ve already settled upon the name and everything!

“Beltway” is a far better word. Lots of places have parkways. When you say “Beltway,” I immediately think of the DC area. Although “beltway” is used elsewhere, the famous one is the one that rings DC. “Beltway Series” instantly implies, to me, a series between Washington and Baltimore. “Parkway Series” would mean nothing to me.

Hell, we don’t even know which team they’ll face in the Division Series. (Is that still what they call it, btw?) Depends on whether the Nats finish ahead of the Reds, or vice versa.

And in the still-unlikely event that we have a Nats-O’s World Series, maybe we can call it the Parkway Series locally, since everyone here knows the B-W Parkway, and let the national talking heads call it the Beltway Series.

But to me “Beltway series” would imply that both teams are inside the Washington, D.C., Beltway.

We had a Subway Series (Mets - Yanks), and a Bay Bridge Series (Giants - A’s), and the Cardinals - Royals was something like the I-40 Series. Any others?

What would a White Sox - Cubs series be (other than A Sign of the End Times)?

I think that would be the I-70, if I remember my Missouri geography.

I know what you mean, but that’s already the name they use for interleague play for the two teams this year, so it’s likely to stick.

The Red Line series. (Or the El series.)

I’m sure you’re right.

To be honest, i couldn’t give a flying fuck what they call it. If Baltimore made the WS, i would be a very happy camper.

Still a long way to go, though.

I’d be OK with a San Francisco-Baltimore World Series. It’d be like Halloween all month long

Reports are that Melky Cabrera can no longer win this year’s batting title due to a one-time rule change.

Article

He would be eligible to return for the LCS, you know…

It was a pretty good move by Cabrera to initiate this change himself. He needs all the goodwill he can get, and getting out in front of this issue and dropping himself out of the running for the batting title won’t do him any harm.

An issue that, as each day passes, seems less and less relevant to this Dodger fan, so you have fun with that.

Yes . . . Yes, I guess we do!

Quite a day today. St. Louis coughed it up with two outs in the ninth against the Cubs, and Milwaukee came back and won in the ninth against Washington.

I can’t believe it. The Brewers were deader than dead a few weeks ago.

Bottom of 4th in SF, Giants just tied it up, 1-1.
