Since I just checked 24 hours after first pitch last night’s game is up for the dodgers.

You can complain about the blackout rules all you want, but you can’t encourage people to break the law. We take encouragement of illegal activity very seriously, especially when it comes to copyright law. This is an official Warning.
Lol, not even a "Hey, don’t do that, " before hitting me with an Official Warning? When I didn’t link to anything illegal, merely mentioned the possibility?
Fine, I won’t do anything like that again.
Returning this to baseball talk, it is too bad for the Yankees that Happ decided to show his Astros form today. Not that anyone would have an easy time against Sale. Lord, I hope this goes 5, with multiple extra inning games, and wears both teams out.
The Astros game was a lot closer than the score indicated. Nail biting through 4. And Verlander took a lot of pitches to get to 5.1. Good thing the Stros pen looks a lot better than the Tribe’s. Game 2 should be entertaining.
Wonder what happens if Cleveland takes a 1 or 2-run lead into the 9th. Do they use Cody Allen to close it out? :smack::eek:
Even before this year’s, um, uneven performance, Allen has been like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead. When he’s good, it’s lights out with a mean curve and good fastball. When he’s bad, he even outdoes Jeurys Familia in stacking up baserunners.
Given that Allen pitched in the 6th and into the 7th, I’d have to go with ‘no’. If the Indians had tied it up or gone ahead, I assume Hand wold have come in for the ninth.
The MLB network is doing a free preview this week so anyone with a cable subscription can see the games.
Not being A Guy who watches the AL east very often, how long have have the Red Sox worn these jerseys? They look like crap, like onesie pajamas a toddler would wear.
Dang. Sanchez sure picked the right time to get hot. Solo and 3-run HRs.
And Yankees go back to the Bronx with a split.
Sanchez the first Yankee catcher since Yogi with 2 homers in a postseason game.
That was extra sweet after the [DEL]bullshit[/DEL] questionable overturned call. Cheers for Tanaka, Judge and the bullpen too. It’s what you want.
After the first home run, Sanchez in his career against David Price was 7 for 14, with SIX home runs.
From now on maybe Price should just always walk him.
Yanks have a pretty long tradition of beating Price. I love that about him.
I expected to split the first 2, now it would be great if the Yanks could find a way to win the next 2.
Hopefully the Kraken remains released.
Well, I’m flat wrong. I just saw a freeze frame of ball in the closed glove and Voit’s foot still a few inches from the bag. Great play by Kinsler.
So apparently Ron Darling is in potential hot water.
Now, I remember the Jeremy Lin thing years back and the headline was over-the-top to me (given the long history of puns in headlines), but in the middle of a broadcast when the obvious reference is to the traditional meaning of the phrase (i.e., a gap in one’s armor), is a big reaction justified? What if the same line had been said about Kershaw?
I understand that it can be difficult, but I do think intent needs to factor in. In my mind, it’s a commonly used phrase in sports when a team or player who is usually dominant in some facet of the game is not on a particular night and Darling both said it and meant it in that usage, not as even a veiled racial reference.
Interested in other opinions.
I really dislike the stream of stupid and obvious things that pour out of Darling’s mouth and would welcome him being removed from the broadcast but a common phrase used in a common way should not be construed as racist.
Heh. I should have been more clear that I didn’t mean for this to be about Darling. I agree with everything you said. He’s not a great broadcaster for sure. You could replace him with any one of a dozen people and probably improve the experience.
When he said it during the game it never even occurred to me that is was problematic. Wasn’t “chink” used as a slur for Chinese people? (Tanaka is Japanese, of course) Isn’t Darling party of Asian descent?
People need to stop sitting on their brains.
ETA: Yes, he’s part Chinese! Also, he has a terrible voice for broadcasting. Just grating and awful, beyond whatever he might happen to say.
Still, props to him for using “standard deviation” properly in a complete sentence, without apparent strain.
“Chink in the armor” is a standard English term, no racial content, just back off.
They usually wear them at home on Fridays. And Price seems to like them.
As a long time Sox fan, I hate them. They bring back bad memories of watching Derek Lowe pitch badly. And the regular jerseys are such a great classic look.
