Tangent post, but fuck, is Harold Reynolds not the dumbest fucking ‘analyst’ or what? He’s wrong about everything – and rather than admitting he’s wrong, he doubles down. Even the civilian hosts burn his ass and he still refuses to admit his takes are wrong. He makes Joe Morgan look rational.

The Cardinals scored two runs on a sac fly last night when Milwaukee center fielder Lorenzo Cain fell after catching the ball near the wall. Cardinal fans were quick to recall that the same thing happened in the 1982 World Series against the Brewers.
After beating the Cubs twice today (8-5, 12-4), the Cardinals have a 14-game winning streak.
I always used to think the Astros’ old orange rainbow uniforms were the ugliest in MLB history. But then there was the Padres’ ugly brown uniforms from their early days. No more. Those two were mere pikers. The ugliest uniforms in MLB history are by far and away the Red Sox’s yellow uniforms..
Interesting home stretch in the AL Wild Card race. One week to go, four teams within two games of each other. I actually think there’s an advantage to being a team that has to fight in the last week for the wild card spots, the survivor goes on to play a team that had its spot sewn up for weeks. I’ll go way out on a limb and say the ALCS will be Yankees- White Sox.
I used to keep up with MLB well enough to make fairly good predictions on MLB playoffs but I haven’t kept up nearly the way I used to, and the game has changed with bullpens being used in significantly different ways now compared to even 10 years ago.
Disclaimers out of the way, on paper, I’d probably go with the Dodgers to repeat in the NL, even if they have to face the Cardinals (can’t rule out the Phillies either) in the one-game playoff. My gut tells me they’ll pull out the division title and force the Giants to play (most likely) the Cardinals.
In the AL, I think it’s either Sox or Rays, and I’ll go with the Rays to repeat in the AL.
So there you have it: Dodgers v Rays again. What a bold pick that is, lol
The evidence would suggest that teams that are hot down the stretch, as the Wild Card champion will have to be, actually don’t do especially well in the playoffs. Regular season streaks usually don’t extend into postseason series.
“Who’s the best team overall?” is usually the best prediction. The Rays, however, still don’t have their best starting pitcher back. Houston is just as good overall, and Toronto will be tough to beat if they can make it into and past the wild card game. I don’t like Chicago, New York, Boston, Seattle or Oakland nearly as much.
As to the Dodgers they still look like the best team in baseball to me but man, that wild card game is such a roll of the dice.
There is a rainbow over Fenway. A beautiful moment for the beautiful game.
I dont think the Rays have the pitching to make it back to the WS this season. Its a tossup in the AL and the winner of the WC v NLW champ will be the favs in the NL.
And now it’s 15. Lotsa fun stuff happening in today’s game, but I LOL’ed at this 3-2-5-4-2-8-6 double play.
I don’t like much about the St Louis Cardinals, but 15 in a row is a franchise record.
Always fun to see new records set, especially for a team like the Cards that have been around forever.
Edited: I live near Wrigley and was out for a run this afternoon, the Cards fans were definitely in the neighborhood and being quite boisterous.
Can’t decide whether the best thing about the double play was the catcher ending up by second base or the centerfielder ending up by second base.
Here’s what’s bonkers about the National League: the Giants and the Dodgers are going to wind up with the best and second-best record in baseball. Exact order to be determined this week. The penalty for ending up with the 2nd-best record, is having to face the hottest team in baseball in a one-game playoff.
Or looking at it another way, the Braves, which currently have a worse record than the hottest team in baseball, will get a pass out of the first playoff round.
Oh you better believe Cardinals fans will be in your neighborhood.
We love stomping on the Cubs. It’s our favorite pastime.
That said, I’m enjoying this run, game by game. I know that the MLB economics don’t favor small market teams like St. Louis. Los Angeles has the system rigged in their favor. The Giants are at a disadvantage as well because they share a smaller market with another team.
If the Cards lose to the Dodgers I hope the Giants embarrass the Dodgers’ asses.
I do find it funny when these massive F350 trucks with Missouri plates circle around my neighborhood streets desperately seeking parking. Oddly enough, I’ve never been to St Louis for a game to compare.
Hey, Dale, just FYI, there are a lot of shitkicker Cardinals fans in places like Belleville, IL; you’re just singling out the Missouri license plates. You do realize that probably much of Illinois south of Chicagoland is Cardinals territory - and that just burns yer ass, don’t it? LOL.
Cubs fans are welcome here. We have ample parking around the stadium, or you can take Amtrak straight from Chicago. Our station is a mere eight blocks from the ballpark, and there’s even the Metrolink if you don’t want to walk.
The Brewers swept the Mets this weekend, and have now clinched the NL Central.
As they’re in the same league as the Dodgers and Giants, they face a steep road to the Series (and facing the red-hot Cardinals right now would be no fun, either), but at least they’re in, and are doing it with pitching this year (a rarity in Brewers history).
Also, yesterday was Bob Uecker Day in Wisconsin; he’s finishing up his 50th year as a Brewers’ radio announcer.
That’s just like the Mets, to be useless when we really need them to actually win a game.
p.s. Mets fans are horrible.
Momentum is tomorrow’s starting pitcher. The Cardinals might well be ice cold by then.
