MLB: September 2025

Red Sox up 7-0 late as their ace Crochet spins a 3 hit no walk 6 K gem. Guardians 3-1 7th.

Paul Skenes pitched six shutout innings and will finish the season with a 1.97 ERA. That will certainly earn him the Cy Young award in the NL.

He left the game with the Pirates leading the Reds 2-0. But the Reds got solo homers in the 8th and 9th and now the game is going into the 10th. Pirates just scored and lead 3-2.

Mets trail the Cubs 6-0 in the 5th.

Guardians loaded the bases in the bottom of the 7th and José Ramírez just doubled in two.

Yankees win 8-1. Judge hits #50 and #51. They are now tied with Toronto by record but the Blue Jays have the tie breaker.

Brewers avoided being swept by the Padres, winning 3-1 in an afternoon game. Phillies thumped the Marlins 11-1 this evening.

Milwaukee is still 2.5 games ahead of Philadelphia, and the Brewers’ magic number to clinch the #1 seed is at 1. The Phillies have one more against the Marlins tomorrow, then close out at home against the Twins; the Brewers are off tomorrow, then close out at home against the Reds.

Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez get back-to-back homers in the 1st inning. Josh Naylor gets out, but Jorge Polanco gets another. That’s 3 HRs in 4 batter appearances.

Cal then hits a 2 RBI double in the second inning. Mariners are up 5-0 in the third.

That’s HR #59 for Cal on the year so far.

Pirates beat the Reds 4-3 in 11 tonight. Reds have now lost 2 in a row to Pittsburgh after winning their previous 5. Mets are getting pounded by the Cubs 10-2, so it appears Cincy will remain a game back of NY in the wild card.

Should the Mets lose, AZ will have a chance to tie them. DBacks and Dodgers are 1-1 in the second.

Not a solid baseball fan, but I’ve seen enough chatter around me about how harrrrrd one particular question is to wonder what the fans here think.

If you have to ask what the question is, you probably don’t know enough to vote confidently.

Cal, Julio and Polanco also all homered in the same inning a couple weeks ago against the Rays. Pretty amazing that they did it again. I wonder how many times in MLB history three batters have hit homers in an inning in two different games?

Cal’s homer was an absolute bomb into the upper decks.

A few weeks ago, I answered with Judge. But, as Raleigh has continued to hit home runs, and has passed various records and milestones (most HRs by a catcher, by a switch-hitter, and by a Mariner), and as the Mariners have gotten red-hot this month, and run away with the AL West, I feel like Cal has momentum on his side.

Just wait till Cal passes Judge’s HR record. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

If Raleigh wins MVP it’s a travesty. Judge is only 8 behind in home runs and leads in most offensive categories including significant leads in WAR and OPS. It shouldn’t be the award for the home run leader.

Bring on the travesty!

Only 4 players in history have hit 50 home runs in 4 different seasons. Babe Ruth, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire and now Aaron Judge.

Don’t get me wrong: from a sabermetrics standpoint, Judge is a better candidate, and I have the sense that most voters look at advanced stats more now. And I do think that Judge will win it ultimately. I just think that Raleigh also has a pretty compelling story.

(And, I don’t know how hitting 50+ for the fourth time factors into a vote for this year’s MVP.)

Catchers have to do so much behind the plate, they manage a pitching staff. A catcher leading in HRs is like a QB leading in sacks. It’s unbelievable.

It’s objectively amazing. And Cal just hit #60.

Yes to your argument. Also, catchers has one of the most physically difficult positions and he is doing it every day without all the days off most catchers take. A right fielder stands around most of the night and can save up for the plate. And I say this as someone that spent many years in the out field. Judge is basically a batter that occasionally touches a baseball. A step up from a DH.

#60!

That being said, Judge is an amazing hitter and fielder, and deserves the accolades.

Mariners win and have clinched the division.

That was the wink. But, Cal does have the harder job, physically, day in and day out than Judge.

I’m looking forward to seeing at least one playoff game in person!

Congratulations on that. That’s awesome.
