Also, Cy Young is his to lose now and he is a legit candidate for MVP for carrying his team and I think leading the AL in WAR. He is at 7.1 with McGonigle & Witt at 6.3. I don’t think he’ll get the MVP, but it is possible at least.
Schlittler also leads the AL in innings & WHIP.
They’re 10.5 games into the playoffs. They’d have a wild card spot without him.
His MVP case is a good one but if Houston makes the playoffs I think they’ll give it to Yordan Alvarez.
It’s just in fun. I just saw the nickname on a Yankee fan FB page and thought it was cute. I’m not so sure that they make it without him. A replacement starter would do well to go .500 and Cole looks like he’s getting ready to pitch in the Home Run Derby. Schlittler and Rodon are the only guys I feel good about when they start now.
Damn, I think Alvarez’s case is hurt by 124 games at DH vs 23 in Left Field. Also making the playoffs as a .500 team is a little underwhelming.
I hate to say it, but Wilyer Abreu of Boston is probably a better candidate than Alvarez. I think Schlittler will mostly be hurt by the thought that MVP is for everyday players and not pitchers. But that same thought, means a DH has to be a clear cut best.
I agree Abreu may the the better candidate but I don’t think he has a real shot. It’s a weird year.

In the minor leagues, we’ve got ChipPurr Jones throwing out the first pitch.
Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh 5-1 tonight, while Chicago lost to Atlanta, 6-3. Thus, the Brewers become the first team to clinch their division.
Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski had another good outing: 5 innings pitched, 0 runs, 7 strikeouts, and 1 walk. His ERA dropped to 1.89, as he continues to lead the NL in ERA, WHIP, and strikeouts.
Also: at 94-57 with 11 games to play, and still fighting for the #1 seed in the NL, the Brewers have a good shot at reaching 100 wins for the first time in team history. The best that they have ever done is 97-65, last season.
Guardians and White Sox have split their first 2 games of the series, so the Sox still lead by 1/2 game going into today’s finale.
White Sox then finish with four at home against the Tigers, three in Kansas City, and three at home against Colorado.
Cleveland has three at home against the Athletics, then three in Boston, followed by three in KC.
And the Guardians win this afternoon to move into first place by 1/2 game. ChiSox have the 3rd wild-card spot.
White Sox play tomorrow. After that, each team will have 9 games to play.
Yankees @ Twins are now in the 13th tied 4-4.
Yanks tied it in the 9th 2-2, scored in the 10th and gave 1 back. Scored in the 11th and gave it back. Frustrating.
And they blew it in the 13th.
Sorry to see Cabrera get DFAd. He played with a lot of heart, not sure why he wasn’t given a better chance after his injury.
Some good news:
Ryan Lasko, a minor leaguer in the A’s system, has been released from a rehab facility after being paralyzed in an outfield collision over two months ago.
He was paralyzed from the chest down, but has started feeling sensation and tingling in his legs and feet. His doctors are optimistic that he’ll make a full recovery.
Dodgers clinched (in case anyone was worried about that).
Kinda hard to get too excited. His career ERA is almost 5. Maybe he’ll be better this time around.
Aaron Judge is going back onto the IL, this time with a calf strain, after being pulled from Wednesday’s game. He’ll be eligible to come off the IL on September 27 (the last day of the regular season).
He was 4-for-26, with 13 strikeouts and one extra-base hit, in seven games since coming off of the IL due to a broken rib. He’s only been able to play in 66 games this season.
That is very bad news.
