MLB: September/October Regular Season 2022

Yes. They tacked an early series at the end. It’s the same for the Rockies at the Dodgers

Thanks!

And the Marlins defeat the Brewers in 12. Milwaukee lost 2 of 3 to Miami and now trail the Phillies by 2 games with 3 to play.

Phillies go to Houston for their final 3 games; Brewers host the D-Backs. According to ESPN, the Phillies hold the tiebreaker, so one Phillies win or one Brewers loss gives the final NL wild-card spot to Philadelphia.

The Brewers have been pretty mediocre in the second half of the season (in which they are 34-32); they spent most of the first three months in first place in the NL Central, but their pitching, which had been great in that stretch, has not been nearly as good since then.

Do you know their record since they traded Hader at the trade deadline?

They traded Hader on August 1st; since then, they are 27-30.

To be entirely fair, they might not have been much better with Hader, who had been lights-out in the first half of the season, and then suddenly struggled in his last couple of appearances with the Brewers, prior to the trade. He’s had a 7.63 ERA with the Padres, and was removed from the closer role.

Thanks. And a good point about Hader. I didn’t realize he struggled so much in the second half.

Here’s Hader’s game log for 2022. He didn’t give up an earned run until June 7th, and he entered July with an ERA of 1.09. By the end of July (which was also the end of his tenure with the Brewers), he had an ERA of 4.24.

Yeah, 9 runs allowed in a 2-game stretch when 1 out is recorded definitely hurts the ERA.

Braves sweep the Mets and need 1 win to clinch the division.

I’ve got to choose a streaming service for the playoffs. It can’t be Sling, they don’t have FOX in this market. Hulu does, but I have been reading that people are having problems pausing live TV, and that you can’t watch a recording in progress until the recording is over. I need to be able to sync the game with my brother in NY. Has anyone experienced these problems with Hulu? Does anyone have FUBU or another service?

I’m only going to focus on stuff still in play or that has changed:

American League
Toronto is now locked as either 4 or 5. Any win or Seattle loss sets them as 4.
Blue Jays are +4 and play Orioles on Mon/Tues/Wed.
Seattle are +1.5 and play Detroit on Mon/Tues x2/Wed.
Tampa Bay are 0 and play BoSox on Mon/Tues/Wed.

National League
Braves and Mets are in, but still fighting for the Division.
Braves are +2 with the tie-breaker over the Mets, and play Miami on Mon/Tues/Wed. Magic # is 1.
Mets are -2 and play the Nationals on Mon/Tues/Wed.
They are combo-locked as far as seeding. Division winner is 2, wildcard is 4

Padres +1 and play Giants on Mon/Tue/Wed and are now locked in with the tie-breaker over Brewers.
Seeding up in the air.

The other wildcard spots will go to either the Phillies or Brewers.
Phillies are 0 and play Houston on Mon/Tue/Wed.
Brewers are -2 and play the Diamondbacks on Mon/Tue/Wed.

The Phillies need 1 win or a Brewers loss and this is over. They hold the tie-breaker.
The Brewers have to win out and need at least 2 Phillies losses.

They need the Phillies to lose all 3 games.

You are correct and the sad thing is that I said it correctly on the line right above that one! :man_facepalming:

I also realized that Toronto needs to win 2 or a win + a Seattle loss to lock the 4 seed. Seattle owns the tie-breaker. Tampa Bay can do no better than the 5.

No games today until 6 Eastern. But Wednesday all games are between 4-5p Eastern.

Tony La Russa issued a statement this afternoon, confirming that he won’t be returning as White Sox manager next year.

In the statement, he describes that he had had a pacemaker implanted in February of this year, but a check of the device at the end of August identified a problem, leading to having to undergo a second procedure related to the pacemaker.

However, in the statement, La Russa also notes that he had been diagnosed with a second medical condition during a physical earlier in the year. At that time, he had elected to delay dealing with that second issue until the offseason, but while he was away from the team due to the pacemaker issue, a treatment plan for the other issue (the nature of which he didn’t disclose) was developed, and that seems to be what led to him not returning to manage the team in September. Though he says that his prognosis is good, he says that the treatment and recovery period for the second issue would preclude managing in 2023.

So sad to see a great manager go out like that even if this last venture was ill fated …do hope he gets better

in other news I just saw this :

And apparently, ESPN pissed off football fans this weekend by split screening the games with the Yankee games every time judge was up to bat …

There’s no reason to do that. I’d be pissed too. If he hits another home run, I can read about it later, watch highlight videos, etc. If I really cared, I’m already watching that game or at least recording it.

I caught some of that split screen nonsense and immediately changed channels. If I wanted to watch the Yankees, I wouldn’t have tried to watch college football.

Munetaka Murakami hit his 56th Home Run, moving into 2nd in the NPB and the lead for a Japanese player.

Phillies Aaron Nola had a perfect game thru 6.2. Lost both the perfect game and the no-no to Alvarez. Phillies still up 1-0, but Houston has runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Nola just got pulled.

As a reminder, the Phillies lock a playoff spot with a win or a Brewers loss. Brewers (home team) are down 4-1 in the top of the 9th.

Oh, and the Braves with a chance to clinch get shut out by Miami 0-4. Mets were postponed and will play a double-header tomorrow (weather permitting, of course).
