Is it just me, or does it feel like the Dodgers are escaping Chicago?
It’s amazing how bad the Giants are every time Angel Pagan goes out.
They are 182-138 when he plays, averaging to a 92 win season.
71-86 without him, averaging to a 73 win season.
Based on these large samples, we can conclude that Angel Pagan is a 20 win player. Cain and Morse being out hardly seemed to phase them. But if Pagan isn’t back they may as well not even show up for the playoffs (if they can beat out the Brewers, not a sure bet without Pagan).
A week to go, and a hell of a lot left to be decided. I don’t ever expect to live through another night like the last night of the 2011 season, but it should be a fun time nonetheless.
Here’s personally hoping for the Dodgers to end the NL West question tomorrow night, and for the Indians to pull off a miracle this week. Oh, and let’s go Bucs!
This, except for the Indians part. ![]()
No, the Giants are going to sweep the series against LA…just so that we’ll continue to cling to the hope that we can still win the division, and we’ll be forced to pull out all the stops in an effort to do that…so that when the Dodgers do ultimately clinch on Friday (after we drop the first two games against the Padres) we’ll be completely screwed as far as setting up the rotation for the Wildcard game.
I [del]hate[/del]love September baseball!
My sincere hope is that the Pirates somehow pass the Cardinals. If you guys play the Cards in the Wild Card game, at least someone I despise is guaranteed to be eliminated! ![]()
Seriously, though, I do expect the Giants to give the Dodgers a hard time this week. It feels like we’ve got two starters and no bullpen. So long as Kershaw and Greinke alternate pitching every other game and go eight-innings-plus every time, we shouldn’t have any trouble winning the World Series.
I’ll be in attendance at Chavez Ravine tonight, looking to see which Dan Haren shows up.
Since it has already be articulated, I can say that it isn’t enough that the Dodgers win. The Giants have to also lose. Ideally, the Dodgers clinch on Tuesday and eliminate the Giants from post-season play on Wednesday. That I will celebrate by taking the wife out for a nice dinner.
I can appreciate that sentiment. I know that for me, no matter how the Giants ultimately fare this year, the season will go down as a ‘success’ long as the Dodgers last game is a loss
And as I type this, we have our second hit batter of the game, and it’s only 13 minutes old. This could be a ‘fun’ series…
I heard Pagan is probably having surgery. Close the books on 2014 for the Giants.
I’m not sure Pagan is really a 20 WAR player, but maybe he’s a 4 WAR player and the Giants only have -16 WAR players to put in for him. Playing the Dodgers, and they have a .143 hitting Chris Dominguez subbing for him. Granted, this is only his fifth major league game.
This. Game. Is. Killing. Me. But I suppose we should have expected nothing less from these two teams.
Check out this amazing swing by Altuve.
He gets a head-high pitch which, when you’re as short as Altuve, isn’t really that high.
He actually leaves hit feet during the swing, and completes almost a full 360 degree spin.
And, for good measure, he fouls the ball straight into the catcher’s nuts.

I was going to give up and go to bed after the Giants at-bat in the 13th if they didn’t manage to score. My only regret is that I didn’t make that declaration 2 or 3 innings earlier.
Good night folks.
You’re describing this like it’s a bad thing. Maybe that’s what he was trying to do…

So…a 270 degree jump-spin-swing produces a foul-tip off the catcher’s naughty bits, eh? We already know that if you throw the bat at the ball, you will hit it off of 2nd base…I wonder what happens if you combine the two?
The second baseman’s a soprano.
The Red Sox will be the first team ever to go worst to first to worst. The 1996-98 Padres did the cycle first to worst to first.
It’s really hard to imagine why anyone would root against the Indians. Rooting for Detroit and Kansas City I understand, but …"
People root against teams like New York, Boston, Los Angeles.
Of the six teams who were contenders for the AL Wildcard ten days ago, only the Yankees played above .500 over those ten days., going 6-4, but at the same time, disappearing from contention, as the calendar ran faster than the W/L records.
Aaaaand he’s done for the season. Fuck.
Great start to Dodgers/Giants. I really hope we get a rematch in the nlcs. There is a fair bit of hate on the field not just in the stands.
