MLB: September

I’ve decided to root for the Orioles this postseason, even thought they are AL East rivals. I’d like to see Buck Showalter get a ring. He got shafted by the Yankees in 95 and Arizona in 2000. Also, to be entirely truthful, the O’s deserve a big, big break in the postseason after being cheated by the “Jeffery Maier” homer. Plus, Camden Yards is one of the nicest ballparks I’ve visited. So, go Birds!

I predict: he gets fired after 2017, Orioles win WS in 2018. It’s what God intended.

Well, the Orioles took both games of the double-header from the Yankees, including a walk-off win in extra innings. The Yankees managed a total of 1 run in 20 innings of baseball.

Silly Stat 1: It’s the first time that Baltimore has taken both games of a double-header against New York since 1984.

Silly Stat 2: The Orioles are now 16-4 this year in games without Chris Davis. Maybe his suspension will help the team.

With two wins today, and the Toronto loss to Tampa Bay, the Orioles dropped their magic number to win the division from 8 to 5 in the space of about eight hours.

What’s with the beards on the Dodgers? Did Brian Wilson infect the whole team?

Not sure to whom you’re referring. I have no excuse for Scott Van Slyke. Chris “Pure Rage” Perez had his beard long before he got to the Dodgers.

And still, none of them can touch Wilson.

Well, you’re pretty accurate so far.

A blowout to start the series.

MLB players suffer from ADD at twice the national rate for their age group. Nothing suspicious about that it.

Davis was suspended because it was the second time he failed the test for amphetamines this year. A first offense is just a warning. What a dummy. Also, Davis had a Therapeutic Use Exemption last season for Adderall. I wonder if he re-applied this year and was denied.

Thought I heard he didn’t apply. I think waivers are handed out like candy.

Oops, that should have said, “Since August 1 …”

One has the impression the Dodgers were a little embarrassed after last night, based on the start of this game.

In other news, the Tribe lets another late inning lead escape on a two-run Tiger blast in the 8th, causing them to lose 5-4.

I think Indians fans are about ready to pack this season in. That one hurt.

There was a ‘movie in the park’ event here this evening; they were showing The Princess Bride, so in keeping with the sense of community we went to the movie instead of staying home to watch the game.

Best decision I’ve made all month.

As my co-worker friend emailed to me afterward, I think both teams have cause to be grateful so far this weekend that no matter how many runs were scored, each only counts as one game.

Well, no matter what happens tomorrow, the Giants will remain within striking distance of the division. It’s going to be quite a couple of weeks.

Make that two!

As Vin put it, Dodgers score two touchdowns and a field goal and blank the Giants. Took away a little sting from last night.

Good god, that was ugly. And the Giants hopes for taking the series now involve beating Kershaw.

Oh well…we’ll try again in LA next week.

Kershaw can’t win if the Dodgers don’t score, and I’m not convinced the Dodgers haven’t used their entire week’s allotment of runs as of last night.

Well, the Giants used all theirs Friday night, so today’s game might be scoreless for a long time.

Or not.

I was happily off on my prediction. Maybe when we repeat the series at home later this month. So long as we take 2 of 3 from the dog-ass Giants every time, I’m reasonably happy.

I can’t say I’m happy with the result, but at least we had a good game today. And as it often goes, the game was won by the team that made the fewer mistakes. This game was decided by two plays: first the Giants flinging the ball all around the infield (and other nearby locales) in the top of the 2nd, and then Buster Posey thinking he was Rickey Henderson and running his team out of the inning in the bottom of the 3rd.

Nats’ magic number is four; they could clinch in Atlanta this week.
