MLB should go take a flying leap ...

Remember, though, that they have a real GM now, not just one of Selig’s boyhood chums or family members running the show.

Well, I’m sure he’d like to, but Milwaukee’s the smallest market, so I don’t think he’ll be able to keep them all around. But they’ve got about four years of dirt cheap prices on them, while they figure out who to keep and who has an adequate replacement in the farm.

I’ve got a random contribution to add. Last night, I saw the world series trophy. I was in my living room. Not on Television either. The actual trophy.

My friend called on the phone to tell me that he had his baby. I was happy for him, and told him so. The conversation only lasted a minute, he obviously had a lot to deal with and call waiting was clicking in. As I got off the phone I noticed a flashing of lights outside my windows. My fiance and I both looked across the street and saw a small motorcade of sorts. One police SUV, another unmarked SUV, and a minivan painted up with MLB logos all over it. A man gets out of the sports bar which is located right there and walks back into the van. He’s holding the Red Sox championship trophy in his hands.

Life is random. Apparantly they are doing a tour of local cities with the trophy. We just happened to look outside the window at the right moment to see it.

I was just about to start a similar thread.

I was working during the Mets-Reds opener, but according to my Cable Guide, it was on ESPN. So I throw in a tape, skip out the door to work, avoid sports info all day and come home hoping for some baseball goodness.

What do I see on my tape?

The fucking Brewers versus the fucking Pirates.

Who in the holy fuck would ever want to watch that game in New York?

Anyone who would be interested in the best potential pitching matchup of the day.

Me, if I was in NY. :stuck_out_tongue:

And I had to miss the Mariners vs Twins on opening day because… the game started at fucking 2:00 Pacific! What kind of idiot schedules a baseball game for 2:00 in the afternoon? Baseball games are supposed to start at 10:00 AM or 1:00 PM or 4:00 PM or 7:00 PM!

[sub]I guess I coulda checked the schedule instead of assuming the game would start at 7:00…[/sub]

This really pissed me off. I normally wouldn’t mind that ESPN can’t show the game here because we’re in the New York region – I prefer the local Mets announcers anyway.

The problem is that, due to a contract dispute between Time Warner and Cablevision (which owns MSG, on which most Mets games air), I couldn’t watch the game at all! In other words, you can’t watch a Mets game in New York until, IIRC, April 9th, when there are a couple games on the local WB affiliate.

Fucking cable companies.
