Mmm, Mango Slices

Apparently dried Mango slices are in season now! I was at the supermarket and, on a lark, picked up some dried mango slices. I just cracked into them today, and wow, tasty!

Just thought you’d all like to know.

(I got them at a Safeway near Seattle, for those of you interested in that).

You haven’t lived until you’ve had fresh sweet mango slices, on top of sticky rice with creamed coconut topping. Mmmmmm.

I keep bags of them in the house. More addicting than potato chips. (Sunsweet mangos - 2 bags/$3.00 at Publix)

  • Puree them into plain yogurt. Yum.
  • Chop them into fine pieces, then add to vanilla ice cream. Yum.
  • Mango jiuce. Double yum. Very sticky if you dribble it on anything, but oh, yumyumyum.
  • Add to a Waldorf salad. Kicks up the yum factor quite a bit.
  • Grilled chicken breasts stuffed with mango. Oooooooooooooh yum.

What a coincidence! Just ate my first bag. Dad brought em home from the philipines…

Did I ever mention that in Australia you can get fresh mangos for a large portion of the year? They freeze really well, too.

Probably because of that, I’ve never seen dried mango. Tinned mango is a reasonable substitute if you can’t eat them fresh, although I’d recommend getting them tinned in juice not syrup.

Mangos go well with everything

mmmm … Mangos

The first Mango I ever ate was at the Bob Marley Festival in Houston many years ago. Because of the association, I always feel a little decadant eating Mangos.

I remember many years ago as young un’ climbing trees in Yauco and picking fresh mangos from the branches. Nothing better than sitting in a mango tree eating fresh mango and pelting your sister with the pits.

I prefer strawberries, covered with sugar.
Now on sale at Tops for 99 cents!

Enough reason, all by itself, to go to a Thai restaurant. Just the thing after a bowl of green curry.

What the heck are you people talking about?

I get mangos the size of my fist at the grocery store year round for .50$ each.

I’ve never tried dried mangos.

But tonight for dinner I’m making Mango-Mustard Glazed Chicken.

Mmmm…mangos.

You know, when you see it typed out too much, the word mango looks really weird.

Just try repeating it over and over. It’s like the word limit. After awhile it just sounds really weird.

You haven’t eaten mangoes if you have not been in India during the summer season and gone through a full mango season.

(the memories bring tears to ashtay’s eyes)

there are at least 10 varieties that I have eaten myself and I believe there over 200! Some are green with a tough skin with orange colored pulp. Some are large with thin skins and yellowish pulp…oooooh heaven!

The entire market is redolent with the flavor of mangoes. I find the mangoes that I can get (Texas) fairly insipid with little flavor and taste, but one takes what one gets.

The BEST way to eat mangoes is

…standing waist deep in the ocean…
clearly as God intended!

Mango and Asian pear smoothy with a dash of Grenadine.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm

My son is in the mango tree out back. My wife wants to make some chipotle chutney. They fall off the trees around here, in another month you can’t even give them away.

This is my little Mango.
He prefers dried papaya.

Yum, dried Mango slices. Good thing I’m not a vegetarian!

!!

Anyway, I picked up another pack of mango slices yesterday. They are a bright orange (the last batch was yellow), and they were still yummy-riffic. I will see if I can find some fresh mango the next time I’m in the store (doubtful in the pacific northwest), since that’s what you all seem to prefer.

And I wouldn’t even think of eating your Mango, Wicked Blue. I’ve never really liked parrot jerky.

Is anyone allergic to the sap? I found out I was the hard way. My face swelled up so much I could hardly see. I miss them, especially when they are 3 for a dollar where I work.
