Mmm... That feels nice (warning, mildly steamy)

Steam treatments.

What?? What were you expecting?

Seriously, I just tried this and it’s great:

Take a large bowl, fill it about halfway with boiling water. Put your face directly over it, cover your head and the bowl with a towl, keeping it closed around you and the bowl so the steam doesn’t escape. Come up every now and then (a comfortable length of time). Keep doing this for about 5-10 minutes. Afterwards rinse your face with cold water.

I used some essential oils. Two drops each of the following:
Lavender
Lemon
Fennel

The book I was using suggested Neroli as well, but I didn’t have any.

The essential oils probably aren’t neccesary - They evaporate fairly quickly anyway. It’s nice with them, but probably almost as good without.

My face feels wonderfully clean and fresh after this. Go on, try it. You’ll like it.

I never use Neroli.

Naomi steams me up just fine…

Back in my previous life as a the lead singer of a famous unknown rock band, that is exactly what I would do for 1/2 hour 45 minutes before every show, except I would have some lemon slices and some honey mixed in and would inhale and exhale like mad.

Oh yeah, never did the bit with the oils though.

I guess what you inhale and exhale before a concert really does affect whether you are in an unknown rock band or not…

Steam treatments are wonderful, but just be careful not to have the water too hot as the heat can damage your skin.

Sauna. Next best thing to heaven on earth.

Broken Doll: Eep. Thanks for the warning. The water I used was almost straight out of the kettle, so I suspect it was too hot. I’ll bear that in mind next time I do it.

Muffin: Hell yeah. But Sauna’s aren’t that common and are somewhat expensive. These can be done every day almost for free.

Incidentally, having looked up the price for Neroli oil (Around $70 for 15ml  ) I don’t think I’ll be using that any time soon.

The bowl and towel steam treatment is also fantastic for helping clear clogged sinuses. Makes colds more tolerable.

I’m partial to adding eucalyptus oil.
