Yesterday it was 74, tomorrow it will get down to 34, and half the MMP has had snow already. Is anybody still somewhere warm?
In any case, up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Make yourself a hot beverage, and hijack away.
First! Woot!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 10c/51f with a predicted high of 11c/52f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Is it partly fucking sunny, or partly cloudy? Who knows? It’s fucking stupid, regardless.”
It’s not cold here, not necessarily warm but pleasant enough out there. And it was sunny when I drove ‘im indoors to the station earlier. Today is the usual irk day with a lunchtime grocery shopping trip included, then the gym after work this afternoon. I also need to get all the recycling stuff together for tomorrow’s collection, and haul the biiiiig bin out to the kerb later this evening. Fun times!
Winter is beginning to signal its impending arrival here in Luxembourg, with morning temperatures consistently in the mid single digits. Afternoons are still in the “chilly autumn” range of 10-14°, but are gradually creeping downwards. (This is C, of course.)
However, over the long term, winter cold doesn’t mean today what it used to mean, which leads to a resurgence in the same seasonal debate we’ve had for the past few years.
Personally I don’t mind the minor inconvenience. The summer tires flying into storage is a sign of the season just like the birds flying south. I kind of enjoy the natural rhythm.
Good morning!
I was reading along in the last MMP but never got to comment. Flyboy, that well and truly sucks. I hope that something good comes your way soon. And Oopsie, I’m glad that you were able to take care of part of the problem, well, the most critical part at least.
MusicMan called me right after he left the house to let me know that he had a ‘sugar frosted’ car this morning. I told him not to lick it. My reference was diabetes. His was A Christmas Story. Either way, I guess… We had fun taking silly pictures of me at our local little kid’s park yesterday. First I was Iron Man (complete with iron) and then I was the Grinch. These were for school, or at least that was my excuse! But it was definitely fun.
Today is work, work, work. Fortunately the IEPs have slowed down in general. Ok, I’ve forgotten what else I was going to say. See y’all later!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 41 with a wind chill of 30 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 51, sunny and windy. By Thursday highs will be low to mid 70s. Weather be weird. I have no plans to leave da cave today. I have peopled too much over the past several days. I enjoyed it at convention, but quiet time is needed today. We will indulge in a day of high RDOS inactivities. Sup will be chikin nachos because OYKW mentioned yestiddy that he has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for ‘em.
To everyone who is experiencin’ snow, better thee than me.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
It’s -4 C here; windchill takes it to -14. Light dusting of snow over the weekend. Forecast indicates temps around 0 or +1 during the week, so it will likely gradually disappear.
Tuesday will likely be the warmest day this week, and is a holiday (Remembrance Day), so I’ll likely do a few last yard jobs before the snow really comes, like disconnecting the hoses and opening the taps do they don’t freeze and crack. May put up a new flagpole as well.
Today’s the big day: take the car in for the winter tires to be put on.
Was in court for a couple of days last week. Woke up this morning at 4 am, replaying my orals and responses to the judges. Hey Brain! We’re done that now; give it a rest!
Roughriders had a come-from-behind game in the western final on Sunday. Got the winning touchdown over BC with 11 seconds left in the game. They’re off to the Grey Cup for the first time since 2013!
Very gutsy call from Coach Mace in the 4th quarter, with about 5 minutes left. Riders were behind 7 points and on the BC ten yard line, but couldn’t put it in on first two attempts. On 3rd down, Coach Mace called for a field goal, rather than going for a TD to tie the game. Field goal was good, so Riders were 4 points behind. Coach Mace had confidence in the Riders defence, one of the best in the CFL this year, to get the ball back. And they did: BC two-and-out.
Then QB Trevor Harris, starting at the Riders’ 30 yard line, with about a minute and a half left, engineered a 70+ yard drive for the TD. (He said after the game that if he were playing in the US that a minute and a half wouldn’t have been enough time, but he was confident he could do it under CFL rules.) A few long passes and 7 plays and it was done.
Moment of anxiety for Riders fans after the TD catch: did the receiver trap the ball against the ground on a diving catch? After automatic review, up went the ref’s arms, and the Riders are off to Winnipeg next week.
As the western team, they get the Bombers locker room, which is sweet. Up against a very good team: Montreal Alouettes, who defeated the eastern top team, the Hamilton Ti-Cats, earlier on Sunday.
Up to get some tea and feed the critters.
It’s the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald going down. Will we all share the earworm?
OK, I’m a tad confused, I think. My initial thought was that IEPs were developed in the beginning of the year as a guide. Now I’m thinking they have to be reviewed and updated rather frequently - no? How does this work?
Today’s high will be low 50s and freeze warning for tonight, so my 3 houseplants need to come in from the porch. I hoped to get my butterfly bushes planted, and I’m guessing I should cover them for the night. Maybe I should hold off with the planting till Weds or Thurs… must think about it.
Today is also Dermatologist Once-Over Day. And I’m preparing the explanation for the scrapes and bruises all over my forearms. It’s also Doggie Drug Day - specifically heartworm and flea-n-tick. Thank goodness for Outlook or I may not have remembered either of the above.
My Derm is in Charlotte Hall, home of the new Aldi, which is very convenient, since I need a couple of things from there. After I get home, I’ll make the final decision about planting. Maybe I’ll just get a wagonload of composted leaves so I’ll be ready to plant on Weds? I’m thinking that’s more like my plan.
Plus the dishwasher needs to be emptied, and the kitchen floor is starting to look grubby (thanks, Otis) and could use a mopping. I think my day is planned.
Happy Moanday!
Her first snow. I’m happy I woke early, the morning necessaries took longer than usual. Off to the museum.
Have a great week everyone!
Mornin’ all - Crack of 0830 as I start to drivel.
Still warm here. Overnight low was about 75, now 77/25 on the way to 82/28. But … [ominous music]
Overnight tonight is supposed to be 46/8 with a high of 69/20. So a 30F/18C swing in a day! Ouch. Going to be slowly rewarming as the week progresses. By the weekend we’ll be in a more typical late Fall pattern of lows in the upper 60s and highs just reaching 80.
My weekend was mostly fabulous: GF was here from Thu dinnertime through early Sun afternoon. She is now very much stress-relieved as she commences her busy week from hell. Starting with a blood draw, a real estate closing, and the funeral of housekeeper’s son. And that’s just the first 6 hours of Monday; it gets worse as the week goes on.
Other than that, little news from here. I just noticed this instant moment that the 1 year anniversary of my own divorce being finalized passed unnoticed a couple weeks ago; Halloween to be precise. What a wonderful change it has been since then. Although in my case there was very little difference in my attitude or my daily reality between the day I walked out and the day almost exactly 9 months later that the judge banged the gavel and declared us both free of entanglements.
I was able to read much of last week, but not all. Yaays, boos, hugs as appropriate all around.
25F this morning. We had about three flakes of snow yesterday. But the forecast for next weekend has us in the 60s again.
I think we’re delivering the sandwiches we made to the Sallys today, then a drive in the van to look at leaves. Not the most exciting thing to do, but it makes the wife happy.
An ambulance arrived at the building in the wee hours last night, so another of our tenants needed help.
Time to get breakfast rolling.
27 farbenheimers (-3 celeries) at the moment. Highs in the 70s later this week. I just want like one week of consistency.
Anyway, fairly normal week. Next weekend is another concert weekend (chamber chorus, quite different).
Going to caffeinate more.
How many years have you lived in St. Louis? ![]()
IME after 20 years living there and a few more years working there, the wild swings have always been part of both spring and fall. Does keep weather “interesting” there, but maybe too interesting.
33 in Lake county Ohio. Just a trace of snow on the bushes.
I read the OP as chili.
Hello mumpers,
I’ve been away from this board for quite a while, being sucked into the Reddithole as it were. I’ve lurked occasionally in the meantime, and more intensely in the last few days. I’m glad to be back if I’m still welcome. The level of discourse on here has been something I truly missed.
Hugs, encouragement and well wishes where appropriate based on the previous MMP.
In my neck of the swamp it’s beautiful autumn weather. Which means it isn’t raining. For us, that’s enough to be happy about.
Have a great week everyone!
You are.
The more posters with sun in their name the better!
Morning everyone. Currently camping on the beach in S. Texas. Normally I could lord it over everyone as regards temperature, but not today. It’s 42F with gale force winds. Apparently I picked the wrong day for sitting on the beach with a cooler (pretending to fish).
Last week I told the sad story of the local “Trump Burgers!” restaurants here in Tejas (one re-named, one closed due to owner deported by ICE). I passed one of them yesterday and it’s now permanently closed. Big sign out front proclaiming its demise. Don’t know if the cause is political or economical, but they’re all gone now. I’ll pause so all of you can join me in shared sorrow – Hey! Ya’ll point that somewhere else! Champagne corks can be dangerous yanno?
Minor rant: While maneuvering down the road in a fairly large rig yesterday, I received no less than 4 calls from older relatives. After finally pulling into a parking lot, I returned one of them. The reason for all the calls? The father of a grammar school friend of mine, who I have not seen in 50 years, had passed. At 93. Why on earth do people think this type of news is urgent and must be communicated immediately? I’m sorry this happened, but couldn’t it just be an email or something?
My apologies – rant over. My kinfolk do this all the time and it gets on my nerves.
On a more pleasant note: Today will be spent renewing my fishing license, and gathering ice and bait and such like. Thankfully I brought a heavy coat, so I can brave the sub 50F temperatures. The rest of the day will be binge-watching TV* and staying warm and “wined” while the cold plays itself out. Hopefully tomorrow will be calmer and warmer so I can use my drone for fishing. Don’t judge me! I’m retired, and casting seems too much like work. I just let the drone carry the bait out for me. ![]()
Hope everyone has a good week! Will return more this week I hope since I’m being an RDOS layabout.
*Brought a buncha DVDs with old 60s monster movies; last night was “Attack of the Giant Leeches”, tonight’s selection will be either “The Beast of Yucca Flats” or “The Giant Gila Monster”.
Classic monster horror sounds like fun!
Older kinfolk might not be versed in the more advanced ways of communication nowadays? My FIL never texts and always calls, usually at inconvenient moments. We’ve gotten used to it but it can be a drag sometimes.
@pjd and @SuntanLotion , thanks. It’s good to be back
.
Good morning, all.
It’s 53°F and cloudy. It has been raining intermittently throughout the night, and rain of some sort will continue at various times this morning. We’ll switch to cloudy or partly cloudy skies by this afternoon, with a daytime high of 57°F.
Yesterday’s inaugural bike ride was downright nice! My buttcheeks hurt, but it was nice. We rode about nineteen miles. The weather was perfect for riding, the sun was out (although filtered at times), the leaves on the trees were beautiful, and so were the rivers. I posted pictures on Facebook.
Although the bikes are electric, I did pedal a lot, because after all, the point of riding is to get some exercise, too. However, it was really lovely to use the assist and the boost to get up some of the steeper hills, and sometimes to cruise. I’d push the bike up to 20 MPH (when there weren’t people around), and then cruise for a bit. However, my average speed was always between 10 and 14 MPH. I wasn’t in a race, and I wanted to enjoy the scenery, too.
Welcome back, Drsunflower1.
It’s so fun to watch dogs react to their first snowfall, VanGo. Buster and Maisie were unsure of it at first, but then seemed to like it. Polar would lie out in the snow; he was a Siberian Husky, so that makes sense. Brandi, a lab mix, was kind of a Pretty Princess Paws about snow, and Cap’n, my first lab, loved it.
Today, I have to do the laundry. I’m a day or two behind. I think the rest of the day will be spent RDOSing.
Well, I suppose I should get the day started. I did not sleep well last nigh, and woke up at 2:50 this morning. I tried going back to sleep, but basically tossed and turned until I got up. Maybe a nap will occur today, too.
You all take care of yourselves!
Good morning everyone. No snow on the ground, but I’ve been seeing flurries.
I called Aldi to pre-order thanksgiving meals and was told that if they didn’t have the smaller turkeys in the ads, that they would sub with something larger but the box price wouldn’t be over $40. I think that’s probably OK. I have a small oven and did a 22 lb turkey last year, so the recipients should be able to cook them.
While I’m out delivering cookie boxes, I am also going to drop another food box off at the library. The library lady told me that the bananas were the first thing to go, so more fruit it is!
When I went to bed, I realized that GG was right to be giving our new sheets the side eye. The brand label is sewn to the outside of the pillow cases and the end is sandwiched between the seams.
I don’t have a serger anymore, so don’t really want to rip the seams out, too much work for me. When I change them tomorrow (or today depending on my mood) I’ll cut the tags off close the the seam and then pick out the weft threads and individually trim the warp threads until my CDO (OCD with the letters in the right order) shuts up.
Hurray, that’s great. You need it to go well lest you start to get back of the mind doubts and quit riding.
The weather thingy says that the snow should stop in an hour or so and it will warm up to 32F around 1300, so I’ll probably do my errands then. It’s not snowing enough to stick and the highway is first to be plowed if it does snow hard so my little front wheel drive econ-box won’t have any problems.
Everyone have a great day, ttyl.
