Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian Mumpers, happy Indigenous Peoples Day to our Native American/First Nations Mumpers, and Happy Puck Drop Week to any other NHL fans out there. I do get mistaken for Canadian a lot. Something about being polite, liking hockey, and no one knows the difference between a Wisconsin and an Ontario accent around here.
Hijack away!
I knew a guy who had a very large dog named “Kitty”
“Here, Kitty, Kitty!”
Maybe set aside a little for bail… just in case the booze leads you into temptation??
Yeah, well, she knows more than the doctors, because… um, I don’t know. It’s not that she reads it in the internet because she doesn’t go on line and she’s almost blind anyway… And the local council on aging is on our to-do list, with so many other things.
Slept like the dead, waking about 5, feeling almost human, so I’m up. I’ve tended the critters and had my toast, and I’m catching up on line now.
We’ll be heading back to the in-laws’ later today for a short time, and I need to take MIL grocery shopping. But mostly, I’m hoping for a chill day. It’s certainly a chilly day - low 40s right now! I’ve got lots to do outside - maybe I’ll get to some later. Maybe.
Some of us are re-homing elderly relatives. Some of us are mourning departed elderly (or not so elderly) relatives. Some of us are cooking divine meals. Some of us are eating cereal for dinner.
Some of us love and are loved by children. Some of us love and are loved by other creatures.
Some of us are sick. Some of us are nursing others through illness.
Some of us are working our butts off. Some of us are enjoying the glorious sloth that is being a retired drain upon society.
Some of us are enjoying exciting adventures. Some of us are amazed to have survived another friggin’ day. Some of us are lonely and isolated. Some of us are overwhelmed by the demands of so many damn people at once.
But we, all of us, are Mumpers, dammit. And we’re all doing something.
Especially laundry. How do some of you produce so much damn laundry?
I’m stitching, goddamned backwards roses, I hates them.
GG just managed to close the door and is now locked in, his struggle is getting so frantic that I am going to have to go let him out. Again.
I spent most of the day tearing this section out because the roses were going in the wrong direction.
Here is the whole middle section, so you can see that it would have been pretty obvious that the middle part was wrong.
Now that I took the pics, I can see that there is a stitch missed on the green edge. FML. I am NOT taking that entire section out again.
PS, shoe the knots you see sticking up are Away or Waste Knots which you might already be doing. You probably will want to look up Pin Knots for playing with ribbon.
Are you trying to subtly tell you to stop trying to corrupt you? Damnit, I’ve lost my touch.
You are a smart lady and you have the magic of the intertubz. You were able to recognize that I only used two stitches in that entire piece, how many other folks could do that in a glance?
Maybe a Phoenix because you are rising from the ashes of your life in Texas?
Good morning everyone. Low 60s (F) and dry here. S’posed to approach 90 or thereabouts.
Lots of somethings for me…
Somethings that have happened:
Finally futzed my way through installing Windows 10 on my PC (support for 8 ends soon).
Finally (thank Og!) got through whatever was wrong with my neck and back – presumably suffering from too many birthdays.
Managed to fend off another advance by the army of relatives who, upon finding out something medical was happening, mobilized and attacked like lions on a gazelle. Any medical issue needs kinfolk-crowd-sourced and eventually was receiving out of state calls demanding (literally) copies of my lab results so Aunt Flo could evaluate it. Sigh… I’ve gotta work harder on OPSEC around here.
Also managed to get my latest Covid booster and flu shot (one in each arm). Minor soreness and illness for a few hours, but fine now. Much easier than the first 3.
Spent a long-overdue day at the range. Keeping up skills with the old stuff, and sighted in a new one to boot.
Finished the final touches on my encryption software (homegrown version). I’m about ready to put some important stuff up “in the cloud” as another data backup.
Somethings that will happen:
Driving a few hundred miles today. Finally got the north-facing boat slip I’ve been wanting, so traveling to evaluate it, and maybe move the boat.
Monthly visit to housebound relatives is imminent. I look forward to seeing them and dread it at the same time. Advanced age means advanced thermostat too. So sitting in an uncomfortably warm house and being talked at for 14 hours/day isn’t something I seek out. But I must, I guess.
And a variety of household projects too numerous and boring to cover here. At least one of them involves a chainsaw, so at least there’ll be some noisy fun in the mix.
Drove across the border yesterday to see my grandson compete in a mountain bike race. He took third in the state last year, but isn’t quite so competitive this year. I think he’s bored with this level of racing and wants to move on to more challenging stuff. Anyway, it was fun to see him compete. Then went to see TMAGDITW (the most adorable granddaughters in the world). Finished up by hitting the local Five Guys for some chow.
Tomorrow’s fun will be taking the cat to get her teeth cleaned. I hope she’s not too traumatized by it all. Later in the week will be a drive down the Mississippi River for some leaf peepage, with a stop at the Stockholm Pie Company for, you know, some pie. Maybe hit the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 51 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 81 and N.O.S. for the day. Cleanin’ lady comes today to spiff da cave. That is today’s big excitatement. Sup shall be bbq sammiches made out of the leftover poke loin, coleslaw, and oven fries. Easy and nummy. The usual sloth and general overall uselessness shall also prevail.
I see there are two MMPs. I have chosen to respond to this one cause it was here first.
Yanker your ‘tives demand copies of lab results? What are they gonna do if you say no, come over and perform exploratory surgery on you? Also, good on you for checkin’ on the housebound 'tives.
shoe enjoy your day off and the sparkly string.
cookie I agree. Pie is always worth a road trip.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Moanday Y’all! Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian Friends! Happy Whatever Federal Holiday This Is to my Amurrkin Friends!
Morning all. Truck has already been by picking up the bags of grass I mowed, so need to get watering sometime this morning. Then swimmin-n-sauna and coaching soccer, so it should be a fairly busy day, even if I did run my usual Moanday errands yesterday.
46F heading for 76F today, so the Great Comforter Switch (from a lighter weight one to a heavy-duty cold-weather one) looks good for 1 November. And still not much chance for rain.
Yankers, what, all your relatives watch the medical shows or TV? Or follow Dr. Phil? I’d get some cooperation from your Doc and send them some lab results that would make their hair stand on end… And sounds like a busy day; enjoy.
Cookie, Grandkids and 5 Guys; doesn’t get much better than that.
Smiling fondly at your post right now is my something.
Been producing more lately as gym causes sweating and soccer practice causes messes, but usually can do it all once a month (of course, that takes 5 loads and the bulk of the day).
OK, need to forage some and maybe do a few chores. All y’all take care.
metal mouse, I’m OK with Coor’s light too. Shoot, I’ve even been known to drink a Natty on occasion. :shows myself out:
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of blankets in the dryer and a load of sheets / towels in the wash. I need to fold the load of clothes that came out earlier, prep lunches for the rest of the week, pick up a few groceries and top the tank off with gas. There’s a reason that I usually take the day off after the return from a trip.
Aliso reported the double MMP - it‘s interesting tjat even the mod doesn’t know why Discourse did the merge it did.
I wobble between both. Today is the first time in six weeks I get to listen to music on earbuds and read about mumper goings on, and I have the entire train compartment to myself.
Well, I didn’t type fast enough - someone got on snd has headphones, so no worries about somebody wanting to talk.
Pie sounds good. Might make an apple pie this weekend. My mom made one with a streusel topping - so much better than a top crust!
Had pumpkin in the freezer, so I could it up, added maple syrup, spices and uncooked oatmeal and let it sit overnight. This morning I added yogurt and that was breakfast. I could probably eat that for dinner as well.
We have gorgeous blue skies and comfortable temperatures - really nice to get a proper fall after this dry summer.
