And it’s not like it’s difficult to turn your headlights on auto on modern cars and trucks. I have mine set to have the lights on when the sensor senses that it’s cloudy or dark. Otherwise, I have daytime running lights on.
I called the doctor and rescheduled my appointment for Monday. Right now, I don’t trust myself more than a few steps from the commode. Hopefully, that will be alleviated by then.
Naps and reading are both on the agenda for the day.
Well, it’s going to hit 68F today. A bizarre one-off, as it will drop into the 40s in the next two days. Breakfast was savory oatmeal, then went to exercise. Talked to a neighbor down the hall about our military service. He was a Navy Hospital Corpsman, which I certainly respect. He narrowly avoided ending up in the shit in Vietnam.
My daughter is hosting Thanksgiving this year. It’s been amusing to watch everyone trying to coordinate things on Messenger. It’s like herding cats. She was able to push off turkey prep onto my youngest son, so I’m off the hook for teaching her how to do it. The downside is that it will be a smoked turkey, which means the meat will be dry. Not a fan.
My eldest’s household is in the throes of both flu and pneumonia, which I assume will be history by T-day.
Got our shipment of Alaska sockeye salmon from Sitka Seafood. It arrive nicely vacuum-sealed and frozen in approximately 7oz portions. Even with shipping, it’s a better price than buying locally.
No blowback yet about the ESA ploy, and I don’t really expect any. They have no option other than to honor it.

I went to bed at a more-or-less normal time for me, but despite being sure I’d sleep in after my PA/NJ adventures I woke up at 6:30am! My schedule has been borked since the clocks changed, so I’m sure my stupid brain still hasn’t adjusted and thought it was 7:30am. *sigh*
This morning I discovered that there is no hot water in my shower. Luckily the water got warm enough that I could wash myself and my hair, but nowhere near “hot.” The water in the bathroom and kitchen sinks gets plenty hot, so it’s just a shower thing. The water temp was fine the morning after the guy had to replace the shower valve (on Wednesday evening), but I’m guessing this latest situation is somehow related. I’m really not in the mood to deal with it today, though: I’ll call a plumbing company tomorrow morning (after I check the water temp one more time).
In other news, at some point over the past couple of weeks I managed to pull a muscle or something in my right arm: tennis elbow is the best diagnosis that Dr. Internet can give me. For a few days it was just slightly twingy, like maybe I’d slept on my arm wrong, but sometime in the past week it’s become painful to lift even small things with that arm (and, of course, I’m right-handed). I can’t take NSAIDs, but I ordered an elbow strap from Amazon that will arrive this afternoon. I’m hoping that helps, and the issue resolves on its own without medical intervention. I’ll be seeing the nurse practitioner at my bariatric center on Tuesday morning – I was two years behind in visits/lab work but am fixing that – and if it’s still bothering me after using the strap for a few days I’ll mention it to her.
I most likely won’t leave the house today, but I’ll be happy to hang out at home: in no particular order I will cull my “extra” shoes, do laundry, read for a while (I finally have time to start the new book one of my favorite authors released on Halloween), start arranging my holiday Lego sets, and maybe also start some other Christmas decorating.
Speaking of Lego, yesterday I ordered the new tropical aquarium (people with Lego accounts can order it before it’s available to the public on Sunday). It’s already backordered! But it’s supposed to ship by December 5 – three weeks from today – which isn’t too bad. There’s always a chance it will arrive sooner. And the current gift with purchase is kinda cute: a tank filter and fish food.
I checked out a few minutes of various sections: very nice! You’re not kidding about “complex,” though.
Oh, this reminds me! Remember the local chamber music chorale I auditioned for in mid-October, but (a) the director had forgotten about my audition, (b) I kind of blew the required piece, and (c) I left feeling that he and the group weren’t right for me? The guy said he’d make decisions/notifications by Halloween, and I wasn’t surprised at all when I didn’t hear from him – but then he emailed me last week, and said I’d be welcome to join the chorale for their May orchestral performance of Beethoven’s Ninth provided I work with a voice teacher for a few months early next year! (Despite how that might sound to some, it’s truly not insulting at all: I would definitely need to work on my classical chops [and learn how to sing in German] if I were interested.) I sent him a polite “I’m grateful for the invitation but no thanks” note, but was floored that he said yes! My musician’s ego kind of needed that!
I’m back to the drawing board in terms of figuring out what kind of singing I want to do next. My heart seems to still be in The Great American Songbook, but creating my own space in the local jazz scene would almost definitely be more work than I’m up for at the moment. I’ll keep pondering…
A lot of places that advertise a range are aiming for the middle, which isn’t an unreasonable expectation. So it might turn out that it pays right about what you’re making now.
I had a blood draw a week ago, and was told the same! Mine reflexively said “look away” before she inserted the needle, and I was like, “nah, I’m good.”
If you’d had an air compressor, could you have reinflated and made it to a shop?
I keep a small air compressor in my trunk for exactly things like this…and because when the seasons change, the temperature fluctuations often result in tire pressure weirdness. I’d rather quickly reinflate in my driveway or a parking lot than have to find a working air machine or take the car somewhere.
I’ve got lingering tendonitis in my wrists from high school mime class (long story) and elbow issues. I’ve found a wrist widget helps a lot. Oddly, compressing the wrist seems to make the elbow feel better.
Short day today, I’m already home at noon. About to set off for the dog park, then to Trader Joes.
Just a quick afternoon update, the Firday shopping is complete, bought a little more than usual, mostly since I have become ‘one of those’ coupon people and had some that had things I will need but normally wouldn’t get till I run out. So guess it does work for business to send them out. Also need to gas up the new car for the first time, so will have to figure out how to open the tank (I think I know where the button is) and see how many gallons it takes to fill it. Probably go to the gym then and since I have lots of time will try to ease my way through the calories, only 15-20 minutes at a time riding/treading and several breaks. Big Bowl O’Sallit is on the menu tonight so may indulge in some snackage to keep calories and protein up to average–I want to maintain my weight, not starve.
FCM, my first thought is AI, but these days you never know for sure, do you?
rocky, have seen some of the You Tubes with dogs in spider costumes, I admit it would probably give me the willies if I saw something like that unexpectedly.
Taters, when I feel like you do I often say my nose is running like a politician–constantly and annoyingly… Hope you feel better over the weekend.
red, like you, my previous car and this new one automatically default to having the lights on when I start up and I have to take actions if I don’t want them on. And hope the intestinal bug clears out, one way or another…
cookie, good luck on the T-Day coordination. Will be going up to Brother’s the day before and spending a couple days there, got that all set.
Oopsie, our bodies and their internal alarm clocks tend to be creatures of habit, so just plan on being up about then. And hope the hot water gets fixed, the showers at the gym have been…tepid lately, hopefully they are doing better today. And best wishes for a healed-up arm soon. And looking forward to your next LEGO project.
As for tire pressure, I have a place that services my car who provides free air-fills for my tires (which I bought there). So far no issues.
And best get dressed for some gym time so I don’t feel rushed. See y’all later.
This really could go in the mini rants thread but I’ll tell y’all instead … I got trapped in the freezer yesterday at work.
The door has seemed increasingly sticky, and I guess last night it gave up the ghost, with me inside.
I spent ages and ages a solid minute or two banging on the door and screaming for help, which is a long time to be in a very small and VERY cold room without any assurance that anyone can hear you or is coming to the rescue.
Alternate Manager supervised while another (disbelieving) coworker tried it. After rescuing her she wrote a snarky warning note and taped it to the door.
I was in the Blue pickoff all sort, so a relatively easy day. Unlike the one driver in Brown 112. They put a new Blueberry loading that car, and from what I saw, this was the first time he had ever seen a box, or numbers. I got sent over there at 0800 to help, and the other loaders had finished their sets. New guy had over 100 boxes. He was picking up each box and just staring it it for a minute, before writing the HIN number on it, and putting it..somewhere.(The HIN number tells which shelf and where on the shelf each package goes, in theory to have it ordered for fastest delivery.). This dude was at least putting it in the right package car, but bugger all in any sort of order that made sense to the sane. I ended up finishing most of it, and helping the driver. And of course while the driver is struggling with non-Euclidean loading, the training sup came to interrupt her to sign off on stuff for a training packet. She looked like she was contemplating a less stressful job, like EOD, or rabid stoat wrestling. The Home Despot Damage Of the Day was a roll of roofing paper, which HD cheerfully slapped a label on it and sent it into the system without any packaging. So yeah, it didn’t make it. I bought an onion for my belt on the way home. There was a broken down fire truck in the turn lane in from of Teeter. But oatmeal is eaten, laundry is now in the dryer, so naptime till hockey.
Spot is in charge of lacerations and puncture wounds.
We have informal sessions where we just scream “WHAT THE FUCK!” during the sort.
Good luck. The smallest I could find was 14# - at least, the smallest in the super-sale freezer. Both of ours are about that size.
That’s where mine stay except when I get the car back from the shop. The mechanics there always turn them off and I was really confused one evening when it was so dark!!
Find a street corner and put a hat upside down at your feet. You’re welcome!
I go to my happy place as soon as the rubber strap goes on my arm. Don’t wanna see it, don’t wanna think about it. It’s better for everyone that way.
Our Santa Fe doesn’t have a button - you just press the door and it springs open. Old school!
Laundry is done. Groceries and meds have been obtained. Shortly I’ll don grubby shoes and do a bit more planting. Tuna steaks for supper. That’s all the braining I can manage for now.
Hopefully it’s the former. And good to read that the parking block is now painted.
As you should. You deserve better.
I hope so as well. Being stuck close to the water closet isn’t a whole lot of fun.
Yum! Not much good salmon here, and certainly no Alaska sockeye, unless it’s already smoked.
That’s nightmare material for me. Did you have your phone / does it work in there? Hope they get it fixed fast. (Considering the light fixture with water, I’m not sure how fast that will happen.)
The jeans I ordered for hubby arrived and he’s trying them on. If I’m lucky my coat will arrive tomorrow - just in time for Monday’s rain and next Thursday’s snow. After record warm temperatures, it seems winter is arriving soon.
Stretching and iburprofen seems to be helping my back, but I’m not sure I’ll be up to garden work tomorrow. Also because my back didn’t let me sleep well last night.
I found out today that there is a cabal of seniors who are fighting back against the pet fees that have been placed on residents. There is a meeting on Monday night. I hope we can wear capes and masks. Insurrection now!
Admittedly, we’re dodging storm Claudia at the moment (though we do have a Claudia in the office who is currently getting comments).
Yeah that’s… That’s one of those things that can go from funny mishap to not funny at all fast. Hope they get a system sorted so it’s not possible ASAP.
I am planning a nice weekend of sloth, but I also need to make decisions on what to do with the kitchen. Some of you lot are arguably grown-ups, do you have opinions on kitchen counters? Budget is definitely an issue, but I don’t want to be stuck with junk like what I have now…
All the iris are planted and I’m about to turn off the sprinkler. One of the hoses developed a major split so I had to use the other - it just has a teeny leak. Guess it’s time to shop for hoses. We need 2 that are at least 75’ long, which makes for strenuous hose-rasslin’. We have one of those crank-up-and-store units tho it’s not all that great. I’ll do some shopping and cogitating. It would be so much easier if there was a hose bib on the garage, but there ain’t and getting one there would cost waaaaaay more than new hoses.
I guess tomorrow I’ll start planting day lilies. For now, tho, I’m going to take a break until it’s time to make supper.
the polar bear cam went from spectacular sunrise to near white out in a few hours. i hope the polar bears are tucked in somewhere nice.
i left methods of paying home today, so my planned trip for groceries after work will not happen. i will go to the slightly more expensive acme tomorrow on the shopping trip. there is anywhere from nearly a dollar to 5 dollars difference between giant and acme. koritza will be getting the 15 dollar fancy feast box instead of the 12 dollar fancy feast box.
Mrs. L.A. got a big American Tourister wheelie suitcase today. She came home and opened it, and she’s very happy.
I got an email from the mortgage servicer the other day. I replied, saying that I want to pay off the mortgage. I got a reply when we were at dinner last night. The guy said that I have enough in my escrow account to pay it off, and would I like to do that. No wire transfers. I answered him today, saying that sounds like the easiest way to proceed.
