MMP and Chill - Winter is Here

I have just a few minutes while I’m on hold, so if this ends abruptly, that’s why. I talked to my friend the Medicare advisor. I am bummed. In order to get decent Part D coverage that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg, I’m going to have to stop giving myself the injections and go back to the infusion center. THe problem with that is that it means I can’t go anywhere for more than about 10 days because I have to get the shots every 2 weeks. When my brother had his knee replacement, I couldn’t stay as long as he needed me to because I had to get back for the damned shot. And I can’t just get them wherever I’m traveling because it has to be ordered by a local doc ahead of time, etc. It also means a block of several hours because I have to get TO the infusion center, wait, etc. It’s like being chained to the center.

I’m grateful for the shots, but damn, this is hard. I guess this is a first world problem.

I visited the vampire this morning, then came home and broke my fast. I have whoops

I am so sorry. Its so hard to not say how I really feel about the state of health care for peons in the US. You shouldn’t have to have millions in the bank to be able to get top notch care. And…that’s it, I feel the soap box moving out from under my chair.

That applied in AZ as well, but then it started warming up and the snowbirds would go back home to terrorize their home base neighbors so everyone would forget about the sudden winter influx of Holy Cow, These People Sure Do Drive funny folks.

Its not really like that here. Folks tend to be pretty courteous drivers who stick fairly close to the speed limit. The big problem is that they are so courteous that they are constantly giving up their right of way to people without need. The big rule of driving around other people is to !be predictable! Don’t fucking stop in the middle of the block to wave someone from a side street out to make a left hand turn fer crying out loud!!!

So not much happened today. Hubs got done defending Sanctuary and is now defending future West Virginia in FallOut whatever number. They haven’t updated lately but its entertaining him to come across a game landmark and call me in to see it and tell me when we were there. It doesn’t hurt me much to get up off my ass and go and look, I’m at a section where I’m not really counting, I’m just doing simple borders now.

Hurry for finding what you wanted, there is so much clutter when shopping online nowadays here that I pretty much only do it when I absolutely have to.

I’m sorry you have to go through this.

Got the hoses tidied up, the taps turned off inside and turned on outside, so no freezing and cracking. Some of the cushions for yard furniture were dry enough for putting in storage; some still too damp, so propped them up and hope they dry before the next batch of rain or snow.

Snow is pretty much all gone, as expected.

We did Salsa’s for supper, which means I have lunch, too. Yum.

My tomorrow plan is to mow/mulch first, then when the sun hits the area for my plants, I’ll plant. That’s as far as my plan has gone. I’ll figure it out in the morning. Tonight is for chillage.

And I didn’t. :stuck_out_tongue:

The green tea, when you can find them, are yummy.

I always wondered about the custom of staging that at Christmas time. It really is more of an Easter production.

That sucketh mightily! I know what you mean about having to go to lower priced, less user friendly meds because insurance companies say no.

I took another nap this afternoon while beginning the latest Kate Shugak mystery I got for the Kindle. After, I began cutting the pieces for some mini posters to give to folks on 22 November at the protest. They’ll be scaled down versions of what Sis and I are carrying. I really need to concentrate on feeling good enough to attend though. If not, Sis can take them with her.

Some organizations do it at Easter. Or break it up throughout the liturgical year. I think the tradition probably has its roots in the fact that part I (advent) is, other than the Hallelujah chorus, the most well known part, so you get a lot of performances of part I + Hallelujah at Christmas and people just associate it with the season, and it sells better.

Howdy Y’all! Laundry got laundered and put where it stays until it gets dirty again. Aldi boxes got ordered. After all that activity I needed nappage. Cornbread muffins got made and beast stew nuked. Made for a good sup on a cool day. OYKW is abed watchin’ teevee and I am messin’ around on my tablet whilst reclinin’ in the livin’ room. I think I will go join him in a bit. Thus is the news from swampland.

Up from naptime. Watching hockey, drinking a Manhattan, and having Redneck Stirfry for dinner.

In. N.C., it’s a combination of people forgetting how to drive when there are flurries, combined with we mainly get ice, so only Zamboni drivers could successfully navigate the roads.

Yeah I once had a District Manager had a toddler level meltdown at me, because I executed a corporate merchandising program exactly like I was supposed to.

< steals JtC’s soapbox >, if we were in the First World, this wouldn’t be a problem.

As I start typing this it’s 7:15pm ET and 39°F with a windchill of 31°, and I’m happily ensconced in NJ hotel #2. I got to my aunt’s right around noon (it was snowing when I left NJ hotel #1!!), and we went to a nearby diner for lunch. Then we went to a local market with a massive bakery department and tons of small “heat and eat” meals, and I picked up some almond cookies and penne vodka. We hung out at her place and chatted for a couple more hours before I headed here, checked in, and unpacked: now I’m tucking into the pasta while posting via my work laptop and big monitor (set up already so I won’t have to do it tomorrow), as a comforting The Big Bang Theory marathon plays on TBS.

I’m not looking forward to waking up really early tomorrow (for the second time during this “vacation”), but I’m looking forward to being at the dealership and finally getting the car all taken care of. I’ll feel so much better after my girl has two more new shoes and is aligned. I’ll go to Stop & Shop on the way back to the hotel (for protein shakes and some lunch), work from my room for the rest of the day, and then have dinner with my aunt.

I’d been thinking about leaving on either Thursday night or Friday (vs Sunday as originally planned), but I’ve decided to head home Thursday morning. Walking through my front door that afternoon will be a little bittersweet: I’ll be glad to have this crazy journey behind me, but it’ll be my first time returning from a trip without subsequently picking Bailey up from a kennel. I’m glad that I’ll have three full days to recover from everything before life goes back to “normal” on Monday.

 !

I hope you start feeling a lot better very soon. :people_hugging:

I kind of hate that phrase*: it’s a problem problem. One that I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with!

(*no biggie, just a pet peeve)

hippie, congrats on the size revision with your jeans! I admire your dedication and it’s great to hear your discipline was so nicely rewarded.

JtC, chestnuts… I relate. I always wanted to try them, ordered up a bunch, painstakingly cut, roasted, shelled and candied 'em, and… why did I bother? Nothing at all against people who like them, but they’re not for me. I don’t know what I was expecting, maybe that they’d be like bigger hazelnuts? Yeah… no.

lily, I can see how they would make good flour.

red, you were smart to get yourself to the ER! Scary stuff, kidney infections. Sounds like it was efficiently treated. I hope you continue to improve and feel better soon. Stay safe and healthy your own self!

My bad. Of course! Being an RDOS, it’s nice you don’t have to drive in it now, I’m sure. Me, either, working from home. So I don’t. Our big snow and ice storms are rare, but I keep out of them when they happen.

And you’re welcome, you and BBBooo, for the moderation, though it’s just doing a task that most here are too smart to do. Several were disturbed by the initial post (including me) and reported it. Thanks for that.

nellie, not the answer you wanted but at least now you know where you stand. Still, your frustration at having your travel time so regimented and dictated by a medical procedure you know you can handle just fine by yourself is very understandable. I’d be frustrated over that, too.

Piper, those are good chores to get out of the way for the season, for sure.

Dogs and chewing. Never gets old for them, I guess. Ollie’s specialty is bedding. All he gets now are raggy old towels, which he still chews but doesn’t eat. Unlike that lovely, fluffy wool stuffing many bedding manufacturers like to use. I consider myself fortunate that at least he leaves the furniture alone and only chews designated toys, for the most part. Now. Finally.

It was annoying! And my own fault, as it turns out. The notice was sent to let me know that he was due for the shot, and it was coincidental that I’d already made the appointment for him to get the shot on the following day. I was not the only client who was confused by the notice, however. They made a big change to their system based on my confusion and that of 4 other clients who made the same sort of mistake. So it’s all good, I suppose. Progress made.

taters, thanks, and it did! More on that shortly. Hope you and hubs had fun on today’s bike ride!

oopsie, I’m with you. It’s a problem problem for nellie, and it’s a stupid one she shouldn’t be made to suffer. < stepping carefully away from the soap box… >

What a day! Cloudy and a bit cool, highs only in the mid 50s.

Off we went back to the vet this morning. Long story short(ish), the vet believes the itchy skin problems are likely caused by diet. I will soon be putting Ollie on a new strict diet of only sweet potatoes and pinto beans for 2 months. Alternatively, I could put him on the expensive hypoallergenic food, but I have the time to prepare these simple meals for him and am grateful the vet is willing to look out for my pocketbook. There’s a sack of pinto beans in the pantry that needs using up and I have a pressure cooker. The hardest part is, no treats. Unless I can hoodwink him into thinking a spoonful of sweet potato or a pinto bean is a treat. I don’t fancy my chances. I suspect it will soon be me in the  :house_with_garden:

Work was busy and moderation here was busy, so I’m glad this day is nearly in the can. Off to scrounge some dinner. I think there’s meat loaf, so maybe a quick sandwich.

My gratitude to all our Mumper veterans. “Thank you for your service,” isn’t adequate – but thank you for your service all the same.

The upstairs neighbors are vacuuming at 9:30P.M.

My mother would be proud.

Nelson actually loves raw sweet potatoes as a treat. He’s a fan of baby carrots too.

Good evening all. Doctor appointment went well, can pick up my new prescriptions tomorrow and he took some blood and urine samples for testing to see if my excessive urination has any medical tell-tales, so worth the time and modest effort. Only an hour and a half at the gym and spent the last three hours before typing this watching the finale of M.A.S.H., which is now 42 years old and still as good as TV can get, IMHO. Even put the dishes away where they below, so done good for a 2sDay.

Now to see what I missed..which is approximately 30 messages. So the scroll control is set to ‘reading speed’ and off I go…

flyboy, are they going to have you ‘train’ your replacement at all before you’re let go? Sounds like that may be a good idea (not good for you, of course, but seems sensible from a business standpoint).

FCM, hope all the unknown covers become known ones eventually. And I have couple cabinets full of cords, USB cables, dongles and other stuff I will likely never use again but since it is out of site and I don’t need the space, they can sit there forever (or at least until the day I finally move).

Nut, read your extended rant and I once again realized being educated doesn’t necessarily means your smart…and that supervisor sounds like he makes that evident. Hopefully the car gurus are smarter than he was…

red , Hope you get feeling better soon, that was a double whammy they had to treat.

Pavo, I remember going out once many years ago to hear the Cleveland Orchestra and Choir perform Handel’s Messiah, and they let the audience buy the score and sing along (except for a couple solos), segregating us by voice. Twas very neat and I think I still have the score book somewhere in my possession.

Dicey, enjoy the celebrations and the new coat.

nellie, that doesn’t seem to make much sense; you need to stop doing something yourself and spend time (and other’s folks time) to get a lower cost? Odd. Guess you’re in for short vacations now, dammit.

Oopsie, glad you had a good day and hope the car repair is done promptly and well. Safe travels home (and watch out for potholes).

Bright Tree, sweet potatoes and pinto beans? For a dog? Seems to be lacking meat, hope Ollie likes it.

OK, 9pm and I have things to internet. So take care and catch y’all on Hump Day.

red, that is so great to know! Thank you! Ollie likes carrots, but as I’m not personally a fan of sweet potatoes, those have not been available to Ollie. They will be now!

metal mouse, I’m so happy to hear you’ve got your doc looking into this. I hope all reports going forward are of the No Big Deal variety. Always good to check, as you know. Good on you for not letting the grass grow.

I know, right? My reaction was identical. And it must’ve showed on my face, because this very seasoned vet immediately explained that the diet is just a way of isolating allergens. The longest she would ever let a dog be on this diet is 8 weeks.

Once we’ve determined if it’s food related, we’ll start adding things back into his diet to see what will work for him. But if he’s still itching like mad, we’ll know food isn’t the problem, and we can move on to investigating other causes.

Ollie won’t like it. :winking_face_with_tongue: red’s information about Nelson liking raw sweet potatoes is encouraging, though.

First chore tomorrow will be a run to Food Lion. They’ve got turkeys for 27 cents/lb if you spend $35. I can do that! Then I just need to find space for a turkey for a week or so. Maybe I should thaw it and smoke it first. Then I can portion it for Thanksgiving and for the freezer. It’ll take a week to thaw.

Casey and her husband may not be coming after all. His father just died and they haven’t decided if they’ll go back to Missouri for the funeral. I don’t know all the details, but there had been discussion of cutting all ties with his parents. So we may not have guests - stay tuned…

Criminy - it’s almost 11! I need to toddle back to bed. Goodness knows I need my beauty sleep.

No one downwind will like it.

Yep, another person who got bad influenced by books. Ten years ago, I would have done just that thing but I’m older and lazier now.

Way back when I was a Girl Scout, we spent a week making acorn bread during day camp. We picked the ripe ones up off the ground and picked the shell off then rinsed them off about a hundred times in buckets. Then we let them air dry for a day and roasted them in a camp oven. Then we ground them up and made dough and fried pancakes out of them.

It only happened once.

I did have fun going down the American Chestnut rabbit hole though. The reason I bought them is because we drove past a very well marked Heritage Chestnut Preserve a few weeks ago.

WV used to have the most American Chestnuts in the country and didn’t lose them to clear cutting. They and everyone else lost them to a fungus. The trees died but the roots remained and kept trying to grow, but the fungus never left. Now folks are hybridizing the root stock and hopefully will restore American Chestnuts to the world.

Living here keeps my brain working, so many new things to learn!

So I’ve finished my corner (that involves counting) and need to head off to bed. I’ve got a busy day tomorrow, dentist, late lunch somewhere close to check to see how my new plate fits, hopefully not returning to dentist and then stopping at Aldi to pick up turkey boxes. I was planning on getting my hair cut sometime between lunch and Aldi pick up, but Hubs thinks he might want to come with me and that would be a very long outing for him.

I was wondering about sweet potato sticks as a treat cause I remember you sleeping with carrots.

Dogs have been bred to eat what humans eat, but wolves aren’t obligate carnivores either. Dogs like meat, but they like to eat even more.

Lest folks think I’m disparaging dogs, I firmly believe that cats only domesticated humans because we make tasty garbage. They didn’t move in because we had rodents in the grain, we had dogs for that by then.

Cats a picky eaters because they learned that some garbage was good and some made them sick…they gotta smell it first and if it smells anything like something that once made them think about puking, they will snub it forever.

And off with me as well, its almost 2300 and I have to brace myself to don adult clothes in the morning.

And we all know who that will be… :dashing_away:

That made me laugh right out loud – I know exactly what you felt! I’ve made similar things.

Very interesting what you learned about American chestnuts! I hope those hoping to renew them are successful!

Sleep well, JtC.
