I vividly recall an evening at grad school in Winston Salem where I simply could not get to my car. The parking lot was slightly uphill and coated with about quarter inch of ice. I had shit to do in the studio anyway. I think I turned in onbe of my best designs a few days later.
He’s a dachshund. He will eat anything. But he will know it’s not a treat !
My dachsies always liked crunchy things like carrots.
I’ve never tried to roast chestnuts, but I enjoyed them from à steet vendor in Paris at Christmas-time.
(Sorry for multi-posts. On my phone and I find it hard to do a long post responding to several posts.)
Almost time for lights out.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s a balmy 38 degrees Ferret Height(3.3 Centipedes).
If I fed Lucretia D. Hellcatt the wrong flavor of gooshy food, or the right flavor too many days in a row, she’d eat it then hornk it back into the bowl.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 13c/55f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and a chance of rain. Weather app says “It’s fucking raining. You have my permission to fucking sit on the couch, be lazy and finish all of fucking Hulu.”
I would be angry too, that’s absolutely atrocious behaviour. Can you make a complaint about him to the Uni as that’s a really inappropriate thing for him to do.
It not a first world problem, it’s a problem. It’s still a massive commitment of your time for something that you should be able to do at home if it wasn’t prohibitively expensive.
That sounds very nasty, I hope you’re soon feeling a lot better now they can treat it properly.
I hope Ollie enjoys his new diet and regards the whole thing as one big treat. I’m intrigued as to why beans and sweet potato though, seems an oddly meat-free option for a dog.
I’m glad to hear you mentioned it to the Doc and he’s going to look into it. Better to know it’s nothing serious than find out something too late.
Nothing exciting in my world at the moment. I went to the gym yesterday lunchtime for a sneaky half-hour session. I was annoyed about stuff and feeling a bit grumpy so I thought I’d go up there, pick up some heavy things and put them down again. Then I came back and worked for the rest of the day. Afterwards, I went to make campus food for three days, had a cuppa and watched the news, then made some dinner and spent the next couple of hours on the sofa with something much more lighthearted.
I am expecting to get a training session on something this morning, no idea if it will actually happen as the person delivering the training has been off sick for two days and may or may not be in the office today. We shall wait and see.
My friend Carole passed away yesterday morning. While it wasn’t unexpected, it was still shocking to find out. I can’t believe that she is gone. I will miss her so much and I feel so sad for her family. Her daughter will be graduating from high school in the spring.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 33 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 68 and sunny. Provisions will be procured this mornin’. The afternoon will involve RDOS inactivities and we will head over to the church house for the Wednesday doin’s, so that takes care of sup.
{{{Sticky_Buns}}} I am so sorry for your loss! How awful that her daughter has at a very young age lost her mom.
MetalMouse hope you find answers soonest and that it turns out to be NBD.
red yikes! Now that you know how to treat it, hope it all goes away soonest.
Nuts that man is a real tool. I hope he gets permanent serious paper cuts and develops an obsession to soak his hands in lemon juice mixed with salt.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and bother, I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
So, you’ve met Otis?
I swear, that dog will eat anything. He absolutely loves carrots, cooked or raw. Raw or cooked sweet potatoes, too, and mixed veggies and peanut butter and cheese, and probably more stuff, but I read FCD the riot act. He used to let Higgs lick his dinner dish and I laid down the law when he started talking about another dog. No people food and no feeding him from our table. Doesn’t stop him from being a four-legged garbage disposal.
Oh, did I mention he eats wood? There are assorted branches in the yard that he’s hauled to his spot, and he’ll nosh away. I guess he thinks he needs more fiber.
Soooo sad! I can’t even imagine what that girl is going thru. It’s hard enough losing a parent when you/they are older. Hugs to you, too, losing your friend.
I’m just a tad ticked off. I checked the pellet stove yesterday evening and it seemed to have plenty of fuel. But this morning it was off and the house was chilly - the furnace even came on! So I got to start my day hauling a 40# bag from the garage. It’s fired up now, but it’ll take a bit to warm things. Thank goodness for my fuzzy robe.
Speaking of the stove - we let Otis have the run of the house when we went out to supper. I’m pleased to see that he doesn’t go into destruct mode when left alone. But FCD said one side of the dog was decidedly warmer than the other. Apparently he planted himself beside the hearth for a cozy nap. Ziva does the same… or she would if that big, hairy beastie wasn’t in her house.
I have decided for sure to smoke the turkey as soon as it’s thawed. I’m also going to move the ribs from the freezer to the fridge to thaw. They’re vacu-packed so I don’t need to rush them to the smoker. The timing for Thanksgiving is like an intricate dance with me wearing boots. Or something.
Anyway, I can’t believe turkey day is two weeks from tomorrow!!! Where is the time going??? Even if the guest list is just down to the 6 of us (SIL doesn’t know if his friends will be able to make it or not - it depends on the duty roster) but since much of the birds is destined for the freezer anyway, it will mostly affect the sides, and I wasn’t going to do a lot of them either.
I need to make an appointment with one of those insurance agents who represent multiple companies, since getting on-line quotes is a royal pain. I want to see if I can get a deal by bundling cars, house, and boat. The couple of quotes I got, while cheaper on the house also offered less coverage without an option to adjust it. So talking to a real person face-to-face is a good idea, methinks. I’ll take the declaration pages from our current policies and see how it goes.
Today, tho - shopping, de-leafing, and planting. Please don’t make me turn in my RDOS card!!! < sad puppy dog eyes >
Happy Wednesday!
After a good dose of winter Sunday and Monday, it’s up into the fifties here through Friday and a whopping 66 degrees predicted for Saturday! Bizarre swings in the weather are becoming the norm these days.
I am so sorry for your loss, and for her family too.

I’m typing at you from a computer in the BMW dealership’s waiting room. Discovering it was a pleasant surprise, as I’ll be here for a while and I left my iPad in the hotel room. Killing time online with a monitor, mouse, and full-size keyboard is much nicer than just using my phone! There’s only one other person in here (so far) and she’s using her own laptop at another workstation, so I don’t feel bad about Bogarting this PC for a little while. I figure I’ll use it until I need to go to the bathroom, at which time I’ll log out of the Dope (etc.) and clear the browser cache.
I’m a little groggy this morning: my alarm went off at 6am, which is a little early for me any day – let alone while I’m on “vacation.” And the water pressure in NJ hotel #2 isn’t great, so the shower only helped a little. I’m glad I’ll be seeing my aunt one more time this evening for dinner, but all in all I’m ready to go/be home. The family time during this trip has been wonderful, but I think I’ve spent more time dealing with the car!
Oh, I’m so sorry. ![]()
I don’t recall how old he is: is it possible that he’s teething?
We have an appointment for Sadie at the vet today. It should be the definition of not fun, assuming we can keep her out from under the bed and get her into the carrier. Just an annual checkup. Then we both have dental cleaning later in the afternoon. I’m not sure which of these activities is worse. Ah well, at least it’s a sunny day.
aspenglow, good luck with ollie! i hope this gives y’all some good answers.
jtc, our poor forests have had a tough time with trees. elms, chestnuts, and now ash are very vulnerable to invasive pests and pestilence. my subscription box sent me brownie mix with acorn flour. i’m giving that to the green committee. they can be the testers for that.
sticks and scones, i’m so sorry. may her memory be eternal.
i had an odd sleeping night. kept waking up with odd dreams. lager was not amused. koritza was happy and was trying to get me to play every time i woke up.
a few weeks ago i had my showerhead switched out… it is having quite the learning curve. i got it because it was a “high pressure spray” and the building had very old water pumps. note the word had. the building replaced the pumps recently. this combined with my high power showerhead has made showering quite the adventure.
for some reason, the showerhead is rather light weight. my old one was heavier. i prefer hand held showers as i use salt and sugar scrubs, they take serious rinsing. the first time i used it, it was like a fire hose gone wild! water spraying everywhere! typically, i put the showerhead on the floor of the tub, turn the water on wait for it to warm up, then shower. not with the new one! it has no weight to fight the “high pressure spray”. the spray is king!
the cat are not amused. they would enjoy a nice shower drink while the water was warming. now it was alive and attacking, throwing water everywhere. on the upside i don’t have a shower audience…

I am so sorry for you and her family. Expected or not, dying that young is just wrong.
Morning all. Up early, took my last pills (getting more today) and decided to have a ‘normal’ breakfast of pancakes and bacon w/toast, which is now being assimilated in my belly. It’s 45F outside and heading to the mid-60’s so we’re getting a little bit of Fall back before the colder weather stays for good. Nothing much on the agenda today, maybe some gym time, maybe some house-irk, maybe some slothage…right now I have 4 You Tubes cued up once I finish my SDMB perusal.
Bright Tree, hope the diet works in determining the itch.
FCM, that’s a pretty good Turkey deal, having company or not. Happy Bird Smoking! And good luck with the insurance hunt.
JtC, interesting history on the American Chestnut. Hope everything gets done today as planned.
{{Sticky Buns}} on the loss of your friend. Hope the daughter is doing ok.
Oopsie, seems a lot of car dealerships with service centers have computer access (or at least wi-fi) these days, but you’d expect BMW to be fairly classy, I would think. Have a nice visit and a safe drive home.
Cookie, hope both Sadie and you survive the vet unscathed (and unscratched). And teeth cleaning shouldn’t be that bad (except for the polishing my dentist likes to do, that is uncomfortable…)
rocky, got a grin from reading about the cats and the showerhead going berserk on them.
And back to the morning sloth. Have a good Hump Day all.
No rain! Just waitin on snap, partial or not.
He just turned 1 and he’d better not be teething - my arm carries enough little tooth-sized bruises from the teeth he has!! ![]()
Back from Food Lion. I did pretty well - with the savings, the turkey discount was like $33!! I’m a tad ticked that the smallest one I found was 14#, but it will fit in the smoker, so there’s that. Plus Wickles are on sale - FCD lurves him some Wickles! Anyway, taking a breather till it warms a tad more before I get out and chop up some leaves.
I have no motivation and no time to be unmotivated, dammit. I’ve got things that need to get done. I need a well-trained staff to deal with all the piddly stuff. Dammit.
Good morning.
It’s currently 46°F and cloudy. Rain showers are projected to begin around 7:30, but by afternoon, they should stop, and we’ll have overcast skies with a daytime high of 56°F.
Sticky Buns, I’m so sorry about your friend.
Metal Mouse, may all the labs turn up no big deal things. I’m glad you asked about it.
Bright Tree, interesting diet. I hope you and the vet can figure out the cause of Ollie’s itchy skin.
Oopsie, wishing you safe travels back home. I’m glad you were able to get the car fixed before having to drive all the way back.
We didn’t go on the bike ride yesterday. I was, and continue to feel just slightly under the weather anyway. I would have gone, but I don’t think my husband was as keen to go either. However, his new cushy seat arrived last night, and he’s anxious to try it out. My seat won’t arrive until Sunday, so more bruised cheek feelings are in store. He wants to try again for this afternoon, but we’ll head down to the Foothills Trail, which is just a short walk down the hill into the valley for us.
The northern lights were out last night, but I can never see them from my house. Interestingly enough, they were visible all the way down to the part of Missouri where my daughter lives. She snapped a great picture. She woke up the grandkids so they could see them, too.
Other than potentially taking the bikes out, I don’t have plans. I need to bust out the blower and blow all the fir tree needles off my back porch, though. It’s completely covered. I’ll probably vacuum again because the dogs are shedding like mad.
Alrighty, time to finish my coffee and see what shenanigans I can find online. Take care of yourselves, please.
I’m sorry for your loss, sticky. Even when expected, you’ll still miss her.
Up, caffeinating (holy smokes, I’m ready for this thing to be over so’s I can switch from tea back to coffee), breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Today’s agenda will be to finish up the mini posters, then begin another project in the studio, likely a nap and some reading.
Stay safe and healty y’all!
