It’s so good to see what we’re famous for. It really was one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen, though.
Great news! Also sharing information on how to get an ESA certificate: You’re doing a public service for other tenants by spreading the word. Good onya.
Thanks for sharing that, metal mouse. Never gets old.
JtC, how yuck that you got caught in the traffic jam, but it does sound like the rest of the day went pretty well.
The vet rattled off the following meats as generally being fine for dogs: Beef, salmon, lamb and venison. We’re already sticking with those, but I know some of his treats have chicken stuff in them. Ollie is already so much better just with the yeast baths and now 2 days of treatments for his ears. It’s possible yeast has been his only problem. Fingers crossed, though I’ll feel terrible if he’s suffered all this time when the solution was so simple.
I got lots more done today than I had planned to. Finished up some paying work that needed doing, gave Ollie his bath, tended to the spa and cleaned off the concrete pad in front of the workshop.
I also found I’d trapped/killed the first mouse in my car since August 14th. I had begun using electronic traps in mid-May and exterminated 23 of them. The electronic traps are the only things that have worked against the mouse invasion – and they work very, very well! Mice in a car are the basis for a horror film, IMHO. It’s quite exciting to be flying down the highway at speed and have a mouse run over your foot.
She’s not growling as much, and she mostly doesn’t sit up in the cat tree glaring at him. Mostly. She does tend to give him a wide berth. ‘I don’t want to get close to you!’ The automatic feeder just went off, so Findus went to the kitchen. Goo is asleep over my shoulder on the back of the couch, and Abbey is snoozing in the cat tree. Now Findus is back on the ottoman. Findus tries so hard to make friends with the big girls!
I’m going to apply to a bank in town. Mrs. L.A. read my cover letter, and I made changes.
I had a ground beef burrito for dinner. I put a goodly amount of Yucatan Sunshine on it. Not enough. It’s not very hot.
Up from a brief naptime. Dinner is a martini, with teriyaki chicken stirfry as the side. Spot is napping in preparation for the 0300 Zoomies.
Sounds like the aftermath of a conference call or the 4th martini*. But A. You’re healing so it’s not a problem. B. It just adds to your RDOS cred.
Peak start around Thanksgiving. the last minute shoppers are there too. But if you do ship last minute, pony up for Next Day Air instead of ground. One year 10 boxes of flowers got delivered on Monday February 15 instead of Saturday, February 13th because certain doghouse dwelling husbands cheaped out and used Ground instead of Air.
*non Dorthy Parker version:
“I like to have a martini,
Two at the very most.
After three I’m under the table,
after four I’m under my host.”
After 9pm and time to wrap things up for the evening. True to my previous post, have slothed while internettin’ for the past three hours, I did do one constructive thing and got my Firday shopping list (with coupons) ready to go early, so that is set. Nothing else of great importance and will work on a Ken-Ken that initially stumped me on Sunday and see if I can riddle it out before sleepy-time. Peeked at the sky but in the middle of suburbia there is too much secondary lighting for an Aurora to stand out, even if it makes it to N. Ali-bama.
JtC, I still carry a fair amount of cash, but am using my debit card more and more these days, and expect that will continue. Sorry about the driving issues, but glad the good work got done.
Hope you get feeling better soon, swampy, soup and ginger ale sounds to me like a good remedy for an urpy stomach.
Bright Tree, you’re helping Ollie a lot, just remember that. No reason at all to feel terrible. And mice in the car! 23 of them!! Good grief, where do you park it at?
And off to puzzle out puzzles while recumbent. Take care and talk with y’all on Thorsday.
Stainless Steel Rat thanks so much for posting Dave Barry’s column, with the video. Both contributed to uncontrollable giggling.
Has to take the car in to the insurance adjusters. Slight fender scrape in à parking lot. Adjuster guy was very helpful. Commented GST the cat’s in good shape fig its age. Thanked me a few times for being early to the appointment (7:30 appointment, was there by 7 pm). Which I assume meant he might get to go home early. I was the only one there.
Had a bit of trouble finding the place; it’s now pitch-black by 6 pm in our northern climes. Down à service road off the main road, so the Navi system was fooled.
Feeling better about last week’s court appearance. I’m always rather down on myself at first, once submissions are done, but with time passing, I think it was okay.
And now some late night singing for Aspenglow:
“23 little mice in a car,
23 little mice!
1 jumps down,
Then runs around,
Til Ollie has found it,
22 little mice in a car!”
I didn’t take advantage of Community Coffee’s 25% off sale, estimating I had enough until the next one. I have (I think) eight 2-pound bags, plus over a pound in the coffee container in the kitchen. I hope it lasts.
I had a nice final evening in NJ: I got to my aunt’s at around 5:30, we headed to dinner about an hour later, then we hung out in her living room chatting for a few hours. She’s definitely still struggling with her husband’s death (only three months ago), but she’s eating and getting out of the house every now and then and not living in squalor. That’s all I expect of her at the moment.
I filled my gas tank on the way back to the hotel (well, the attendant filled it — though apparently I could have filled it myself, which I never thought I’d see in NJ!), and I’ve washed the dishes and silverware that I used yesterday and today. Now it’s 11pm, and I’m about to turn in. I’m looking forward to packing in the morning and hitting the road. Thanks to y’all for letting me ramble about my car saga over the past few days.
Hang onto them for a few years and then see if some coin collector/penny fan will give you $200 for the jar…?
At the museum we have a penny vortex thingy. It’s getting hard to keep it supplied with pennies. Wanna donate some to a tax-exempt place for a write off? This morning we were down to 12 cents.
Tomorrow is a long day, we’re taking prototypes out to a local school. Unfortunately I won’t be bringing my flying ping pong ball game. Too many other things on my list to properly develop an Archimedes screw ball lifter yet. Plus a 3 tiered plinko system.
Goo is a constant beggar. In the kitchen? ‘What are you making, dad? Can I have some?’ For breakfast and dinner, she’s always up near me or CatMom begging for whatever we’re eating. I tend to put sriracha or Tapatio or some other hot sauce on things… but I fork out dome ham for her when I make an omelette. She’ll beg from both of us when we have salmon or steak.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 14c/57f and cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is fucking boring. Let’s talk about the fucking amazing gerbil circus I’m creating.” That certainly sounds like more fun to me.
Cookie good luck with the appointments! I hope Sadie forgives you quickly, and dental hygienist doesn’t give you too much of a lecture.
Hope you feel better soon, and your cushy seat makes the bike-riding more fun.
That’s very good news, now I don’t have to worry about you when you say it’s time to drive home again!
Eat it with whatever you like, it doesn’t have to be authentic as long as you’re happy with it.
A little bit of acceptance, perhaps? Maybe Abbey’s realised that Findus is there to stay and she has to deal with it. Muffin has been with us for around 7 months and she still hisses and growls at Cherry on sight. She’d do the same with Blossom, but Blossie’s too nervous to get anywhere near her.
Yesterday was not a great day. One of my pub friends went home from work sick, so we didn’t go out last night. During the day, we were notified that our temporary team manager (someone we all liked much better than the ADHD Squirrel) would be off sick for the rest of this month and thus would not be continuing in the secondment position. Today we heard that they’re scrabbling around trying to get someone else to backfill the position (they’re asking for expressions of interest with a view to interviewing within a week, for an asap start). It doesn’t fill us with confidence as they had trouble recruiting for it first time round.
It’s not that we’re difficult, we’re a small team with a lot going on, but the secondment would only be for 3-4 months, and that isn’t very appealing to anyone. Ho hum.
In other news, I’m going on leave in two weeks’ time. I’m more than ready for a week away from here, and looking forward to a trip up to Scotland.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 74 and sunny. Over the next few days we will have highs in the upper seventies to low eighties. Weather be weird. Weather in the deep south USA be especially weird! Thanks for the well wishes, I feel much better now. The big item on today’s agenda is a doc appointment to ensure that I am still alive and to re-up ‘scripts. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont. Sup will be fried chikin from the burly butcher sto’, baby lima beans, mac ‘n cheese and rolls. Tummy is definitely back to normal functionin’.
Coppertone glad you’re back home. I’m sure sleep is needed. Hope everything is OK. Yay for partial SNAP!
MetalMouse a video of an explodin’ whale is the perfect way to start the day! I had a good giggle.
BrightTree EEK! Meeces should never be in cars.
doggio I am partial to: One martini, Two martini, Three martini, Floor! Works for tequila as well.
Now I need more caffeine but can’t feed rumbly tummy cause I also get to see the vampire today. Purtification and the donnin’ of attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed must also ensue.
Well, yeah - my kitchen, my choice! And as my mom used to say - If you don’t like it, STARVE!! I will give FCD points - he rarely complains about meals. When I ask if a recipe is worth keeping, he’ll answer honestly. And he likes rice more than noodles, so that was a win anyway!
We’ve had a few hereabouts over the years. There was the one who chose to make a nest in the motorcycle helmet that FCD left in the garage. She tore up the lining to make a comfy home for her offspring. I’m pretty sure it was full of mouse pee and poo.
Then there was the mouse family that took up residence in our dryer vent. When I found them, they were, well, let’s say desiccated. ick. And mice or something chewed up some wires in our truck - TWICE!! So I’m not a fan.
We’ve got a stretch of 5 pleasant days in the forecast. I’m hoping that’s enough time to get a bunch of iris and day lilies in the ground. I’m also hoping they’ll take - it’s a tad late to be planting, but I’m pretty sure they won’t last in the garage till spring. I guess we’ll see. I need to help FCD in the shop for a bit today, then I’ll commence to diggin’ and plantin’.
For now, caffeination is underway. I’ve been asked to tend to Otis this morning - apparenlty my poor sweetie didin’t sleep well last night. So I have a few more quiet moments before I have to free the beastie.
